Dayed

Postby Dayed on January 10th, 2011, 3:22 am

Name: Dayed
Race: Inarta
Gender: Male
Age: 17 (493 AV)
Home City: Mount Skyinarta (Wind Reach)

Appearance: Dayed stands slightly taller than the average Inarta, his flame-red hair resting loosely around his shoulders, braided with various baubles, namely glass birds and one large eagle feather, painted to depict a large bull walrus of the Thunder Bay, Dayed’s first kill. His eyes are a fierce yellow, giving him a decidedly predatory appearance, betrayed by his easy smile, and even easier laugh. His torso is well-muscled, resulting from the strenuous exercise expected of an Endal. Dayed’s left earlobe is pierced, a small string of glass baubles ending in a small, undecorated falcon feather. He often keeps his hair out of his face with a sky-blue silk wrap, which he wears as a sort of headband rather than a braid.

Dayed has a penchant for flamboyance, and this is reflected even in his clothing. The waistband of his bryda is adorned with colorful beads, circling a pair of crossed eagle feathers in the center. His sontav bracers are dyed red, and also decorated with colored beads in a sunburst pattern, and his feet sport a matching pair of knee-length boots. In contrast, Dayed’s katinu is markedly unadorned, its only purpose to keep him warm as well as to keep him “decent” by non-Inarta standards when worn over his sleeveless deerskin tunic.

Personality: Dayed is a fiery free spirit, as with most of his kind. He is fiercely competitive, and will do anything within his power to win what he perceives as a contest (even if one does not exist). His quick laugh and easy smile allow him to play off his wounded pride should he lose, though he will immediately begin looking for other ways to best his opponent in some other challenge. Ever the optimist, it’s very difficult to keep Dayed down, as he constantly looks for the best in any situation. However, as a member of the top tier of Inartan society, he is somewhat jaded, and tends to look down his nose at those he views as inferior.

Dayed is a strong believer that the strong take what they want because they are able, and those who are unable or unwilling to stop it are beyond help. Conflict is what defines a person, whether physically or mentally, and he does not believe in “handouts” or charity. Any such action that he takes is likely done because it serves him in some way or another, rather than because he desires to actually help others with their situation. This is not to say he is cruel or heartless, he is always ready to offer an encouraging word to someone who is struggling, but he will stop short of offering any real assistance.

History: Dayed was raised in the nursery of Mt. Skyinarta, as was common for most Inarta children. Despite his fiery attitude, his only true aptitude was for hunting, a job performed only by Riders. At the age of fifteen, Dayed was consigned to the Deks, the drudges, the lowest of the low. Before the year was up, however, his constant competitiveness had impressed a recently hatched young eagle that had yet to bond a rider. Vayeki, the eagle, chose Dayed, elevating him to the dream of an Eagle Rider, where he immediately became jaded, forgetting what life was like amid the glamour of being first to eat and the fine clothes. However, merely a week before Dayed’s seventeenth nameday, he and Vayeki were engaged in a fool’s game, seeing how low they could skim the treetops. Vayeki mirrored his rider’s chronic overconfidence, diving too low and clipping the treetops. The ensuing crash broke the grand eagle’s wings beyond repair, and Vayeki asked Dayed to do him the mercy of ending his suffering. Dayed did so, and stayed in the Mountain only long enough to gather his most prized possessions before leaving in a self-imposed exile, rather than be cast back down into the realm of the drudges.
