Name: Hanfei Song (Given) / Ezra Folles (Alias)
Age/Birthday: 36 (Born Spring, 474 AV)
Race: Human (Lhavitian)
Height: 6'
Weight: 180 lbs

Physical Description:
The most striking and obvious feature Ezra has to offer is his crippled right arm, which typically is slung across his chest and held in place by a sling that is then wrapped around his torso to hold the arm firmly in place. This impairment is a visual cue to his past experience as a projectionist, and the price he has paid for his magical prowess. Less striking than his debilitation are his physical characteristics, typical of a Lhavitian male. His hair is long and black, generally tied into a high pony tail and accompanied by a wispy beard and mustache. His face does hold a notable scar, running across his forehead. This wound was received after his exile from Lhavit, and is not a characteristic that would allow him to be easily recognized by the Shinya however. His build is lean and slightly muscled, but this is merely a byproduct of his past as a warrior and doesn't denote any real substantial advantage in the department of strength. His right arm is obviously atrophied, and to conceal this Ezra typically will wrap it with thick cloth to give it the appearance of bulk when in public. His style of dress is loose fitting robes of Lhavitian styling, and wide billowy pants. Footwear consists of sandals, paired with thick wool socks if the weather requires.

In short...
A crippled man in flowing garments does make for the most imposing figure, but beneath the facade is a capable warrior.

Personality and Ethics:
Since departing the Shinya, Ezra has grown to enjoy a larger sense of freedom. Compounded with his lack of regret for the crime that ultimately caused him to flee, this freedom has led him down a much darker path than any would have guessed when he was in his prime as a Shinya. Perhaps Ezra simply became jaded after upholding the law for so many years, but nefarious activities such as theft, kidnapping and slavery, and even murder no longer rub him the wrong way. This is not to say he necessarily enjoys partaking in these activities himself (though he will), be it more than he has become indifferent towards them. Ezra believes he is living on borrowed time, waiting until the moment comes when the Shinya locate him and administer his punishment that even he admits is well deserved. Because of this, he has little in the way of remorse for his actions, nor does he have much pity to spare for others plight. Ezra is not long for this world, and he intends to make his stay enjoyable... brief as it may be from this point onward.

In short...
Ezra lives completely for today, and his mindset and personality have begun to favor the heinous... but Ezra cares not, for he lives on borrowed time.

History:
Early Life, and the Great Betrayal (474 AV - 508 AV) :
Born Hanfei Song in the Spring of 474 AV, this young man held the world at his fingertips. His youth was typical of his stock; mock battles, pranks, and strict discipline at home. Young Hanfei Song would be a Shinya warrior; his parents would have it no other way. They too belong to Lhavit's elite. When Hanfei completed his Awakening at age 19, they were overjoyed as was he. There is not much to say about the majority of Hanfei's time within the Shinya save that he was a model of discipline and demonstrated great prowess with both his blade and his projection. Perhaps if one were to say anything negative about Hanfei during this period, it would be that he cared a little too much about his skill. As he grew older, a hint of narcissism began to emerge that displeased his seniors and put off his comrades at the same time. Hanfei subdued his feelings of self worth through practiced meditation and devotion to Zintila, but as the years went on... he simply stopped. He was powerful. His abilities in projection were no longer outstanding among his peers, but his swordsmanship! He was like no other.

Until that day. Hanfei had been assigned an acolyte by his commanding officer to investigate a series of disturbances in the farmlands far beneath the city. Hanfei expressed great disinterest in this task, but relented to his duties. Upon investigating the disturbance, Hanfei and his Acolyte companion, a young woman named Cian, encounter a group of slavers attempting to abduct the simple farmers who lived in the area. Hanfei ordered Cian to engage, and moved to attack the bulk of the enemy, leaving her alone. The battle was short for Hanfei, decisively defeating his opponents in a flurry of swordsmanship. His Acolyte however, faired not so well. In order to save her upon his return, Hanfei was forced to greatly overextend himself with his projection, pushing his astral body perhaps even past it's limit.

Though he saved his Acolyte from certain death, Hanfei was greatly exhausted from the battle and his overgiving. Hanfei lashed out at Cian, verbally scolding her for her failure to subdue her opponents as a prospective Shinya should. Cian, though a mere Acolyte, retorted that Hanfei's recklessness put both her in and himself in danger, and that they should have remained together for a more balanced encounter. Hanfei was infuriated by her boldness, and with his arms limp at his sides and his astral appendages still roaming he wrongfully lashed out at the young Shinya Acolyte. He struck her, a grave offense in itself. When Cian stumbled, and informed him that she would be giving a full report to the Sanin of both his recklessness in battle and his physical attack upon her, Hanfei simpled lost control. This young Acolyte, not even a real Shinya threatened his career. She would shame him, possibly have him removed from the order. Perhaps it was his cloudy mental state from the abuse of projection, but he lost control. Hanfei wrapped his astral around her neck, and with a quick and brutal movement, ended her life.

And then he really lost control. The torrent of emotion that followed her murder was hard to describe.

Anger. She forced him to do this.
Fear. He would be executed for this crime.
Relish. He had destroyed that which threatened him.

Hanfei was distraught, and the next moment is one he will not soon forget. Carelessly, he retracted his strained astral body back into it's rightful mortal cage. However, the typical finesse and methodical care was not taken... he was simply not thinking. A moment passed before he realized his right simply was not functioning. He tried to lift it, but it spasmed and moved sideways instead. He attempted to curl his fingers around his sword sheath, but the digits on his hand spasmed and moved unpredictably. Even attempting to bend his elbow caused his shoulder to lurch. His left arm, though not entirely unaffected held much less severe effects. The ring and middle finger on his left hand seemed to have switched places as far as his mind was concerned. Attempting to move his middle finger resulted in the movement of his ringer finger, and vice versa. And then, the true realization of what had happened struck him like an avalanche.

He was crippled. He had murdered an Acolyte, and crippled his sword arm with his own carelessness. Hanfei was too angry and unaccustomed to his newly crippled arms to even hide Cian's body; he simply fled. It would not be long before the Shinya discovered what had happened. When they did, he would be executed if he was found. So, with nothing more than his blade and his uniform Hanfei Song retreated from the scene of his crime.

On the Run (508 AV - 510 AV) :
In terms of relent, Hanfei had little for his actual crime. He wasn't concerned with the loss of Cian's life, rather he relented that she had imposed such a choice on him. This moment had caused a massive shift in Hanfei's demeanor; no longer did the Shinya have a chokehold on his emotion and action. He was free to do as he pleased, and he did. Hanfei was lost and unskilled in survival, and he wandered for days. It was either great luck or misfortune that he crossed paths with a lone Symenestra woman who was on what she referred to as a "Pilgrimage". Hanfei convinced the woman that he imposed no threat to her, but needed help. In exchange for both his company and whatever protection he could offer despite his lamed sword arm, the woman relented to allow his company. It was with this woman that Hanfei traveled through Kalea, across Taldera and into Sylira.

The trip was mostly uneventful, though there were some scares and Hanfei did manage to pick up on the basic elements of wilderness survival from this resourceful and cunning woman. It was also indeed a relief to be in the company of someone who would not judge him for murder. In fact, she seemed indifferent. It was this indifference that helped Hanfei solidify his actions in his mind as necessary, and justafied. Their travels ended in Zeltiva, after Hanfei successfully helped the woman capture a group of three travelers to force back to Symenos for a fate Hanfei preferred not to think about. They parted ways, both boarding ships to different destinations. Hanfei had taken an alias in his travels to cover his trail from the Shinya; Ezra Folles. The real Ezra Folles was a quite foolhardy (or brave) merchant who had been traveling in Taldera. He certainly had no need for his identity buried three feet beneath the ground and his wares bartered for supplies, so Hanfei had assumed the identity and boarded a ship sailing for a Denval in Kalea. Though he was essentially moving back towards Lhavit, staying in Zeltiva was no safer as the massive port could host a boat full of Shinya searching for him along the coast of Sylira any day. Denval seemed as unlikely a place as any for him to go, and so he went. It had been almost two years since his grand betrayal; the journey with his Symenestran friend had been long and arduous. However, in that timespan he had gained some comfort in wielding his exquisite blade with his left hand. He had also all but forgotten the teachings of the Shinya; meditation and worship for Zintila were no longer a part of his life.

As Hanfei watched Zeltiva fade into a speck on the horizon, he sincerely only wished for more time to enjoy his life. His activities in the past year had been nefarious, but enjoyable. Perhaps he would find more such experiences in Denval.

Brief Summary (For those that simply want a brief overview) :
Ezra Folles is the alias of Hanfei Song, a rogue Shinya Monk on the run for the murder of a fellow Shinya. He crippled his own right arm misusing his projection, and was forced to re-learn how to wield a blade with his left hand. Because of his treachery, the Shinya were hunting Ezra and he fled Kalea with the aid of a Symenestra woman. With her, he was able to travel safely and learn a bit about wilderness survival while simultaneously exploring the more nefarious lifestyle of a slaver and bandit in the wilds. Upon reaching Zeltiva, Ezra bid his companion farewell and sailed for Denval. There, he will attempt to live... though he has become accustomed to the life and tendencies of a bandit, there in lies the potential for trouble.
