Lyssandra Varal

Race: Human
Gender: Female
Age: 20
Birthday: 8thth of Autumn, 492
Birthplace: Alvadas

Appearance: Standing at a height of 5’5”, and a slight build, Lyssandra naturally doesn’t stand out much in a crowd, with her only clearly notable feature being her reddish hair, of which often times happens to be a different colour as part of her morphing training regime.

However, she attempts to remedy that. Between her unusually clean and well-kept hair, outfit, and her somewhat challenging bearing, something generally seems off about her unless she actively tries otherwise, and often-times not even then.

Garb wise, she favours loose robes with more of a preference for contrast or matching colours than she does for complementary ones, though it isn’t unusual for her to simply wear what makes sense for her current climate.

Character Concept

A young magician that seeks to understand and interact with the world itself. She believes that in order to gain the understanding that she desires, it’s important to experience in its entirety.

More intuitive and holistic than purely academic, she tends to act on fairly logical trains of thought, but is also quite easily distracted, often relying on strokes of inspiration and holistic subconscious understanding to govern her actions.

Despite the secrecy she was held to back home, Lyssandra is quite open about her status as a magician. To her, stories weren’t entirely entertainment, but also a model on how to act. As such, she has internalised common aspects of heroes, and to some degree seeks to uphold their lessons.

Born into a small family in the city of Alvadas, Lyssandra was raised among loving parents. Her father a Lhavitian bard, and her mother a native citizen and innkeeper. Socially, they never stood out as particularly remarkable, moderately wealthy, but not among the most affluent, however, they always doted on their precious daughter, and she loved them in turn. Her childhood was in many ways uneventful, mainly helping her mother around the Inn.

However, growing up on stories and living among the already unusual city of illusions, Lyssandra’s perceptions of the world proved to be quite conflicted. The stories that she so admired tended to, while being fanciful, also held a strong sense of logic and structure that her own reality often seemed to lack, and compared to the stories that she had heard, even fell behind in terms of splendour when it was all that she knew.

When she was in her teens however, she found something out about the parents that she had been so close to. It turns out that they had been keeping something from her, and everyone else. They were magicians, and judged her responsible enough to keep the secret, and thus pass on their knowledge. At first she was shocked, she had taken in that non-divine sources of magic were blasphemy, but it was tempered by her love of parents and the stories she had heard of misunderstood heroes had taught her to be less dogmatic to what society considered common sense, and finally accepted the fact.

Though still somewhat hesitant, she began to study with her parents while they were free, first on theory and stress toward the importance of secrecy, before finally being initiated into Reimancy, initially, and morphing at a later date. For the most part, she studied under her father, as of the two, he had the most time free for formal teaching, but primarily practiced with her mother, who taught her how to implement her reimancy in subtle ways to aid around the business.

More importantly, learning magic had strengthened her curiosity. Far be it from the public dogma that worshiped the city’s illusions, she began to find them boring. This, on the other hand was truly wonderous. The illusions shifted, but their randomness and total mystery ruined their allure. They were a spectacle, not a game, and despite the complete lack of sense to them, they were also still incredibly limited.

She wanted to not just experience the world’s wonders, but participate and understand them, and there was simply too much separation between herself and the city for it to be a reasonable starting point.

As such, when she felt confident enough in her abilities to provide for herself, Lyssandra finally set out, first joining a caravan to Riverfall, and finally, hearing about the settlement of Syka, to it, for where better to start making a mark on the world than right from square one?
