Race: Human
Gender: Male
Age: 21
Birthday: Winter, 496 AV
Birthplace: Syliras

Appearance: Calvyn Eltros is fairly tall standing at 6'0" even. He's kind of broad at the shoulder and narrow at the hips. Like the Dryka's he grew up with he is, of course, in good shape. Giving off a lean muscular build like that of a distance runner. He has semi-long dark brown hair, a trimmed beard and stormy grey eyes. Unlike the Drykas he wanders with Calvyn has no windmarks that mark his body. He is human and as such is not within their culture.

Long days of being out in the sun have tanned his body. Giving him a darker tone but overall fair skin. Living the life of a nomad has impacted him in many ways. Firstly the Sea of Grass is a dangerous place to live. Calvyn has a few scars to make that sentiment ring true. He has three claw marks which ripped through his chest. Starting from his left breast and stretching to his right side. Each one violent and grotesque looking. Then on his left thigh there are clear and evident signs of a vicious bite mark. Additionally he has a scar cutting through his right eye and finally on the back of his left hand he has a small crescent moon shaped scar. This one is very gentle and hardly noticable unlike the others.

Personality

If one could say one thing about Calvyn it is that he is determined. Having lived his whole life as an outsider Cal wants nothing more than to be accepted as one of the people, as a Drykas. He is strong willed and rarely gives up when he's set his mind on a task. In a way this has made him both resilient and stubborn. Only seeing his goals and not heeding other people's advice no matter how good their intentions.

He was raised in a merchant family which means he did have access to money. He grew up rich and well educated; everything handed to him on a silver platter. However after spending most of his adult life with the Drykas he now knows how foolish such an existence can be. Money can not be eaten. In a way the Sea of Grass has been a blessing to him. It's forced him to be self dependent or otherwise it would be his end. He has a hard time respecting those whom he feels are more of a burden than of value. Everyone should know a trade, and whatever that trade is, everyone should be good at it. Earn your way or die. survival of the fittest.

He takes great pride in proving people wrong, almost as if it were an offensive weapon he uses against them. He is not one to rub in a victory and is quite humble and fair. However he does like to win. It gives him a sense of satisfaction and if others take notice it makes him all the more happier. Calvyn is not one to 'beat around the bush.' He will always let people know how he feels about them wether good or bad. He also values the same in return. If others feel Calvyn has done something wrong (or right) then it's best to tell him. Straitforwardness and honesty are traits he admires in people. On the other hand he hates liars and thieves and will often call them out. This also goes with people who over exaggerate a story to make themselves look better. For a man so used to earning everything these people seem to 'take shortcuts' which is something Calvyn is not used to. So naturally, he'd feel their attitude needs correcting.

in a topic he feels is to personal he would likely change the topic all together. Giving no reason as to why. Any mention of his real family is hard for him to swallow. As he does not know what happened to them after they were freed. Any mention of how he is not Drykas is also a hard topic of conversation. Simply because being a Drykas means so much to him. He has vowed to one day mount his own strider. Longing to be accepted amongst the people he has lived with for so long. He will earn his keep.

Calvyn is a loyal friend to those who take the time to get to know him. It is hard for him to trust people which is why he much prefers having a small, close, group of loyal friends. Rather than many people he does not know deeply. This is because he's so used to being seen as an outsider he is always wary of meeting new people. He is self conscious about what they may think of him. Will they accept him or will he simply be seen as a Sylarian, who managed to earn his freedom. Because of this he'd do anything for anyone that shows him respect and kindness. Which he himself tries to show to everyone else in turn. There are no lengths he wouldn't go for those he loves and truly cares about. Simply because in his life he's never really had a family of friends that stuck. They always seemed to be taken from him.

Character History

Calvyn Eltros was not born in a tent much like many of the Drykas he coexist's with. Instead Cal was born into a merchant family in Syliras. Brought up and raised in a life of privilege and excess most people never had. Giving him a solid education which enabled him to read and write. As well as understand basic logic, arithmetic and rhetoric. He was, in fact, groomed to be the successor of his father's trade.

His father wanted so much from him that he even took Cal on a trade mission with him. Justifying a long and possibly dangerous journey as practical experience. Calvyn was eleven years old when he went on his first and last caravan with his father. His mother came as well because Cal was her baby boy. Ever the protective mother. The caravan was to go from Syliras to Kenesh in an attempt to sell food amoung other things.

Unfortunately they had to cross the Sea of Grass to get there. Which was dangerous in and of itself. That being said his father felt safe within the size of his caravan. Reasoning that the sheer strength of numbers was enough to make any danger second guess attacking. His father couldn't have been more wrong.

A daring raid by a mix of bandits and slavers managed to overcome the caravans guards. Leaving most of the people defenceless, Cal and his parents included. When the bandits took what they wanted the Slavers did the same. However instead of loot and goods they took the people themselves. Enslaving those they thought they could get a fair price on. Learning Cal was educated they took him and his parents, marching them to Kenesh. To be sold as slaves for a large sum.

Both tragically and luckily they were intercepted by a group of Drykas warriors. The horsemen made quick work of the Slavers and once again it seemed Cal was put through another trauma. The Drykas were about to enslave them all again. Cal's father pleaded for them to be freed, offering a great sum of money. Cal's mother pleaded only for Cal's freedom. It seemed everything fell on deaf ears however. That is until Calvyn showed them courage. Standing up to a man whom he later would understand to be an Ankel.

Surprisingly this Ankel saw Calvyn's fearlessness as admirable. So, with the display of courage, the Ankel only enslaved Calvyn. Freeing his father and mother whom both promised to return for their son. His mother gave him her necklace of Yahel, hugged and kissed him goodbye, then never saw her son again.

Calvyn then lived with the Drykas and was a slave for the Ankel who freed him. He served his pavilion bitterly for the first few years. Always dreaming of home away from the horseclans. He hoped his father would return for him like he promised but as the seasons passed that hope turned stale. So Calvyn finally accepted that he'd never return home and instead began his new life.

As the time went by Calvyn grew to respect and even admire the Drykas. None more than the Ankel he was enslaved to. Who later became something of a father figure to Cal. Teaching Calvyn how to ride a horse, throw a spear and hunt in the Sea of Grass. Calvyn ate deeply into all the knowledge he was offered. In return he would read stories to this Ankels children whom were of similar age to himself. Even befriending them. It didn't take Cal long to assimilate into Drykas culture. Learning to speak Pavi, ride, hunt and fight like a Drykas.

Then, perhaps it was fate, but at nineteen he earned his freedom. The Ankel, his son and Cal had been out hunting when a massive bear surprised them. Calvyn fought this animal alongside them. Having the chance to flee and leave them both to their fate. However he didn't and instead helped Slay the beast. Shedding blood with the Ankel and his son. Upon return to the pavilon the Ankel spoke of their story with pride. When the Ankel finished and saw Calvyn's scars he had no choice. He freed Calvyn officially and marked him so he would always be a welcome guest in their pavilon. However Calvyn couldn't join the pavilion for reasons he knew. It would bring shame upon his Ankels family because Cal was still looked upon as a Sylarian by some.

Calvyn Eltros was now twenty one.

Having spent half his life with the Drykas he was still an outsider. A boy who came from a distant land. A slave who was only freed by twist of fate. Calvyn was accepted by a few but to many he still had to prove himself. He has yet to mount a Strider or carry a Windmark upon his flesh. He was not born into the life, instead fate seemed to be pulling him. Forcing him to create his own destiny and forge his own path.

With a clenched jaw he'd do just that too.
