Birthplace: Syka coastline

Appearance: By day, Gamut is a Zith of sleek muscle and black fur. He stands at an even six feet three inches, with dark yellow eyes better suited to darkness than sunlight. Long black hair hangs halfway down his back, a point of pride that he would never admit to, kept loose and fussed over with idle claws when there is a free moment. Clothing is a necessary evil, one suffered grudgingly in order to better soothe the “civilized” people he has come into quarters with. In his own space, clothes are usually abandoned for a simple loincloth so he may work unhindered.

By night, Gamut is an earthly reflection of the lunar being he once was. Just a few inches taller than his mortal seeming, he is lithe and statuesque with skin shaded like moonlight. His horns curl smoothly from the corners of his forehead past the back of his skull, crowning long hair that reaches just between his shoulder blades and changes color with the seasons. He bears no scars or blemishes in this form, and tends to move with more deliberate care than during the day.

Character Concept

Curious. Deliberate. Ruthless. Patient. Gamut is a creature of many traits, cultured carefully over many lifetimes of worship and contemplation. Though he is primarily a man of action who puts his abilities toward the tasks of present and future, he is at heart a being of questions––even as he works with the physical, he is always compelled to understand why, how, to chase every unknown to its point of origin. Plants and people and buildings are simple things to unravel; souls and minds and purpose are not.

Practicality has become Gamut’s pillar following his fall from grace. He mourns his lost place in the Ukalas, but refuses to be crippled. His first task must be to find a new place amongst the dirt and sweat, and only then can he decide what his situation means and where to go next. His first objective, therefore, is to remember the meaning of mortality––pains and pleasures alike––and to remember what "home" means on the world of Mizahar.

Gamut does not like wasting energy or words, and tends to be very straightforward when interacting with others. He is respectful and considerate by default, at least by his own definition, but will not engage in idle chatter unless it is directly relevant to the event at hand. This can make him seem rude to some, but a relief to others; whatever the situation, Gamut rarely intends to hurt and will change his ways if he realizes he has done so.

Character History

The past of a celestial is fractured by nature, and Gamut’s is shorter than most. He is a young Ethaefal, both before and after his fall from the Ukalas; his most recent life was hundreds of years after the Valterrian, and his time by Leth’s side was not so long as many others. What time he did spend in the heavens, he spent foreknowing that the celestial wounds existed and that he might be torn away at any time; that it happened so quickly is painful, but he cannot afford to lose time dwelling on the unchangeable.

As for what came before, Gamut has a handful of concrete memories scattered over his lifetimes. The strongest and most recent is of his life in Xy, and of a Forsaken Ethaefal slave that he loved to very marrow of his bones. Before that there is a brief memory of sand and perfume, and a melody on the harp that he no longer knows how to play. There is a sharp scent of horses somewhere down the line, but earlier than that he can only pinpoint vague emotions and abstract feelings.
