Basic Information
Race: Inarta
Birthday & Age : Fall 58 487 (23 years old)
Gender: Male

Physical Description
Unlike his two sisters that share his birthday, Yarrin is neither particularly tall (standing at about 5'5") nor is he, in fact, the truest of red heads. While he was born with a full head of reddish baby fuzz, by the time he joined the other children as a Yasi, his hair had grown paler, not darker, to settle into a pale strawberry blond color glaringly shy of the rust or fire like his peers. There is just barely a hint of pale, pale red remaining now that he's an adult, though in the sunlight, his body hair still shines the faintest of ginger. However, Yarrin makes no attempt to hide his hair color—the complex tiny braids, wraps, brightly-colored feathers, and glass baubles that make up his shoulder-to-back length mane are hardly intended to cover up his difference. He will, however, often tie back his braided collection with a headband of leather or woven cloth when working. His love of decoration spills into several piercings—a handful in both ears, two over an right eyebrow, and the left corner of his lip.

His eyes are the color of a cloudless sky, bright and blue, set firmly above strong cheekbones. Whisps of freckles are sprinkled across his face and shoulders, and because of how much time he spends outside, Yarrin is far from pale.

His frame matches his height—lithely muscled but narrow, built like a runner but stronger than he looks. If one could get past his hair color upon first glance, Yarrin could pass as handsome. His features are sharp, as if he were one of his own hand-carved bows. On closer inspection, he bears the marks of a difficult passage into adulthood with his nose bent just so from at least one break and a few scars from his frequent brawling as a youth. The most obvious scarring being a long trail of twisted, once-burnt skin stretching from thigh to just under his ribs on his right side. Like his hair, Yarrin has never made effort to hide his scars (he's rather proud of the burns, truth be told).

His bryda and sontav reflect his status as an Artisan, the charcoal gray of his flowing pants have a waistband decorated by his own hand with beads and feathers (which often end up as arrow fletches instead of personal decoration) in an intricate wavelike pattern. When he remembers to wear shoes, they are always sandals. He has a slightly surprising collection of scarves, most of them woven by his sisters. He prefers his katinu to be lined with mountain sheep skin for its softness.

Character Concept
Yarrin has had to fight and claw his way out of Dek status, against prejudice for his appearance. His talent and skill as both an archer and a bowyer were not enough— his quick wits, bare knuckles, and carefully honed temper have had to lead the way. He's not conceited about his rank, nor necessarily defensive, but it's obvious when he talks about his craftsmanship and hard-won place in Wind Reach, he is proud. He loves to "talk shop" almost as much as he loves to show off his work—he's a skilled archer as well as maker. Secretly, he'd gladly give up his Artisan career for a season or two to ride second seat on an eagle (perhaps just for the sheer thrill of showing up an Endal for a laugh), but he's aware that would be quite a bit more socially and personally to potentially overcome. He truly enjoys carving and crafting bows, however. The whole process is both satisfying and relaxing. He has to remind himself to eat and do other things when he gets too focused on a particular project—each bow or collection of arrows tends to captivate a large part of his attention if he lets it. When not distracted by work, he's usually in trouble anyway.

He's boisterous, adventurous, often foolhardy, and loud. He's done his fair share of stupid, tale-worthy things. He's not afraid of a fight—he'll even start one. He's still managed to keep a sense of humor, and while he won't admit it, the fastest way to his heart is probably behind a bowstring or through his stomach.

Character History
Yarrin was born, along with his two sisters, to an Avora couple. His father was a glassblower and his mother a weaver, both somewhat respected in their professions. He doesn't remember much of his childhood before his eighth year, save that he was generally overshadowed by his sisters. They did watch out for him when they could and he hasn't completely lost touch with either of them, both of which followed after their mother into weaving.

His childhood didn't improve once he was a Yasi, and he was very quickly dismissed as destined to become a Dek. It wasn't that he didn't have any talents so much as he bloomed very late into an attention span. His creativity was sporadic and intense, which made it difficult for him to grab a hold of anything resembling focus. He spent the first few years running with the wrong crowd and getting into as much trouble as possible. However, drudge work and disapproval didn't suit the youth for long. Eventually dissatisfied, he became determined to fight his way upwards—first with his fists and eventually with his skill. He was in far too many fights as a teen, defending himself and his pride, attempting to catch the notice of adults and avoid being completely passed over for his appearance alone (there were far more of his peers with more fiery hair and more discipline than himself). A few broken bones (and the burns from a bellows accident while his bendi duties had him assisting in glassblowing ... a story he never minds telling) were a small price to pay to prove his worth.

It wasn't until archery training that Yarrin began to shine ... and learn some self control. He'd already earned and dealt a few shiners in his time, but with a bow in his hands, there was no denying the strawberry blond Inarta had some kind of talent. That was his "in," and he slowly fought his way up socially through his aim and his prowess. Archery in turn led to a love of caring for the weapon he'd come to be recognized for and the Avora in his veins finally was given a bit of attention. Securing his place in the caste took dedication and endurance—finding a craftsman willing to take him in and appreciate his budding skills was almost as much of a brawl as gaining respect from his peers.

However, with sweat, blood, and patience, he's finally reached a point where most can recognize his craftsmanship and his archery talent without simply dismissing him on face (or hair or whatever) value. He still enjoys a bit of trouble, a bit of drinking, and whatever else he can get into. For now, he sleeps where he can and worries about the next day after his work is through. For now, he's still a bowyer under a master Avora, but if he can't manage to hitch a ride as a second seat for an Endal in his lifetime, he's pretty content to continue working his own way up in the Artistan ranks—one bow at a time. He wouldn't mind moving past apprentice status and establishing his own business; Yarrin figures it's about time for something to happen.
