Appearance :

Sinna is a young man of earthy colouring, with lightly-gilded tan skin, piercing steel blue eyes and waves of tawny brown hair that reach mid-back. Unlike his father, he bears a rather androgynous expression with thick lashes and brows, and is usually clean-shaven and well groomed as possible, with a surprisingly clear complexion. Prominent cheekbones are sculpted into an angular, longer face with a sharp jawline, complemented by a strong, slight button nose and a baby pink pout. His voice is a soothing baritone, calm and gentle in tone, and from his mother has inherited a strong, musky pheromone that’s reminiscent of cardamom, cinnamon and leather—needless to say, Sinna generally smells quite pleasant.

Despite his effeminate seemings, Sinna is far from an easy-picking. He stands at a height of 6”1, and possesses a broad-shouldered, toned athletic figure, albeit on the leaner side due to a general lack of proper nutrition—a by-product of Sunberth’s unforgiving environment. Generally, his hair is worn down, braided occasionally and when needed out of the way. His day-to-day wear is a blend of necessity and comfort, though he does try to look presentable if he can help it. Along his right bicep, there’s a black rose from when he sold his skin to a tattooist for money, and his hands are generally calloused, long fingers lightly littered with cuts and scrapes. A few pale, faded scars litter his body, souvenirs from past scuffles and brawls.

Concept

A calculative, tenacious young hunter born and bred in Sunberth. Initially dealing with only beasts and animals, he eventually branched into slave-hunting as well after being hired a few times and finding it good money. In his pursuits, he's very focused and driven, and highly independant. Money is his god, and he will turn away from his own morals if he needs to.

Persona :

Sinna is silent and generally has an intense, brooding gaze that’s often found to be both mesmerising and soul-piercing. A calculating, dispassionate figure, he’s not one for many kind words and is rather aloof, even with his painfully blunt speech. He keeps to himself when he can, and is awfully serious and hardworking for a young man. Though notably snarky and grouchy, his tolerance for most things is unusually saintly, and he’s not particularly violent; he is, however, incredibly brutal and vicious should he turn to force. Otherwise, anger manifests itself very subtly.

Though illiterate and uneducated like many Sunberthian youths, Sin proves a very fast learner when he takes interest, and hopes to be able to read and write someday. A jack of all trades and master of none—he’s curious and adventurous, but has never had the time to truly pursue anything but money. As the sole breadwinner and most eligible caretaker in his family, he’s often out looking for new ways to get money to feed his growing brother and occasionally a hopelessly alcoholic parent, and has grown very opportunistic and independent. Sometimes, he can be quite adamant about shouldering his own burdens instead of asking for help, and winds up overextending himself. All seriousness aside, Sin can be quite the mischief maker and childish when he can afford to, but such occasions are rare.

Background

History

Dunya & Kuma :

Dunya had been an Eypharian woman of great beauty, who had been very young and blinded by love when she chose to forsake her riches and title to elope with her Myrian lover, Kuma of the Tempered Steel. To Sunberth of all places; Sin has never quite understood why. If Ahnatep was a city of vices, Sunberth was all of it without the glittering mirages. Thrust into an unforgiving, harsh new world she’d been sheltered from since birth, Dunya’s new married life proved difficult for her, and the years began to wear her down. It didn’t help that Kuma was a very inattentive and insensitive lover in general, and within a few years of their marriage, tired of Dunya and began seeking out other women.

Kuma had been most attentive when she was first pregnant, and in hopes of winning his affection back, she bore him another son, despite his hopes for daughters for undivulged reasons that Sin only knows to be inextricably linked to his father’s culture, a taboo topic in their household. Disappointed yet again, perhaps he was even more displeased by the fact that she’d given him a mute, sickly child, he no longer bothered to hide his disloyalty and contempt. Sinna remembered seeing less of his mother’s smile as the days went by. In fact, it was as if she hadn’t smiled in a very long time.

5th of Fall, 506AV. Dunya left Sunberth for good.

Responsibility :

Sinna became a parental unit overnight. Kuma had never been an ideal father, and with their mother gone, the next person qualified to even handle children could only be Sinna. A scrawny, wee little thing with not a single clue when it came to raising an infant single-handedly. A mute one at that, who seemed so prone to illness that Sin spent many nights by Zuko's crib, listening to weak, muted breaths with a silent prayer.

With Rak'keli's blessings and Dira's mercy, he lived on, and grew into a mostly healthy young boy under Sina's meticulous care. Sin's next urgent concerns were money that they had little to none of, and keeping Zuko safe, from both Sunberth's ruthless streets and their father. The latter more so. Kuma's drinking and gambling habits worsened over the years, and abuse became increasingly physical. Sinna took the brunt of it all, willingly, but he couldn't fully shield his brother from their father's wrath. So he worked hard, taking many an odd job and skipped meals, dirtied his hands and scrimped up just barely enough to afford himself and his brother a home of their own in Sunset Quarters.

From there, though Kuma never came to look for them and life was much happier, it still proved a struggle to raise them both single-handedly. Sinna himself, wanted to give his brother a better life and childhood than the one he knew, and did his best to fill the void a lack of parental love had left in his brother.

Relationships

 

Zuko

Sin's mute brother. A sweet, doe-eyed boy with a love for stories. He's learning how to read in his spare time, and plans to teach his brother someday. He looks up to Sinna and loves him dearly, and especially likes hearing Sinna sing. He's got a mind of his own though, and ventures out behind Sin's back at times.

 

Kuma

Kuma failed his proving three times, and proved himself unworthy of the Tempered Steel name. Rejected by his clan, he's gone a little mad and copes with heavy drinking and other vicely habits. Once hopeful of siring a daughter to earn a place back with his brethren, he resents his sons and is somewhat envious of Sin's achievements.

 

Dunya

A woman who fell madly in love, and woke up to a harsh reality. Sinna barely remembers his mother, and she's a rather sombre subject to speak of. Dunya abandoned her sons and returned to Ahnatep 12 years ago. While explaining her absence to Zuko had been hard, they're doing just fine without her, and Sin doesn't expect or really wish to see her again.
