The Arch

The tumbling waves of Thunder Bay crashed against the rocks, roiling into a thick white foam that was again churned back into the water depths to continue the cycle of the sea that had persisted since beyond memory. The rhythmic rumbles of the bay were familiar to those who worked in and around the docks, mingling with the sound of sea birds and the occasional cry of a Wind Eagle and his Endal returning to the distribution center with newly slaughtered prey.

The Arch, however, was a three hour hike from the docks and here the sounds of busy work had all but faded. It was quiet, in the way that nature was not really quiet at all. Peaceful in the way that one might be able to find peace if they conveniently forgot that Caihya was often times far more savage than men. But it was impossible to deny the breathtaking view, as the gentle sloping rocks high above the water revealed a panoramic view of the sea that could only be beaten by the view on the back of an eagle. And though the weather was warm and the sky clear, not a soul seemed to be present here on this day.

What would summon a young kelvic jewelcrafter to this place? Had the inner warrens stifled her, till she screamed for the freedom that only the open sky could grant her? Did the curious fox in her wonder what it was that lay in the wilds of Thunder Bay? Was it Wind Reach’s obsession with their eagles and the sky that drew her to this point high above the waters?

Whatever the reason, Kiah would have to take care. The rocks of the Arch were slippery with only moss to cling to, and she would know the tragic tale of the foolish lovers, one of which had smashed her head on the deadly rocks below. The forest surrounding the Arch was perhaps safer. But one couldn't quite get that breathtaking view unless they ventured onto the rocks above.
