The Diamond of Kalea is located on Kalea's extreme west coast and called as such because its completely made of a crystalline substance called Skyglass. Home of the Alvina of the Stars, cultural mecca of knowledge seekers, and rife with Ethaefal, this remote city shimmers with its own unique light.

1st of Spring, 519 AV

The sun had receded behind the horizon and the sky had become dark and full of bright stars. The dusk resting hours had just ended. The streets were scattered with people who were returning home or leaving there home. A moist dew lingered in the air and puddles were dispersed throughout the streets from the rain that had passed.

Dev'Ania was wearing her silk, yellow dress and black heels from the dinner she attended at the Parker Residence during the Mid-Winter Festival. Walking through the city, she had to hop over puddles to avoid wetting her feet. She was on her way to the Scholar’s Demise, in search of employment there. She loved fortune-telling, but it wasn’t earning her enough funds at the moment. She wanted to open up her own shop, but to do that, she would need to raise a lot more money. In the meantime, she would have to get a stable job elsewhere.

For the past couple of days, she had been searching for a place of employment. With no luck, she had begun to give up, until she fathomed a great way to earn herself money. Performing as a singer. Lots of people in the city did so every day, gathering crowds of people in the plaza. Dev was going to perform there but decided against it. Too many people, much more talented than Dev, performed in the plaza. She would surely be overlooked.

Earlier in the day, she had been walking through the city when she heard the sound of music coming from a building. Following the sound, she came upon the Scholar's Demise, giving her the bright idea to perform there. She would have asked then and there, but she realized she wasn't exactly presentable.

From the outside of the tavern, the cool, blue glow of candlelight could be seen through the skyglass windows. Coming upon the entrance, no music could be heard from inside, but the laughter and chatter from within could be felt outside.

Entering through the wooden door, you are welcomed by the joy of everyone and the smell of alcohol and food. The bartender, busy behind the bar, managed to give Dev a short, welcoming wave. Dev walked up to the bar and took a seat on an empty stool.

"Hello. Is there someone here I could talk to about possible employment?" Dev'Ania directed the question to the bartender making a drink.

The bartender was a beautiful Ethaefal woman with horns similar to a ram's. "That would be me." The woman finished mixing a drink, wiping her hands with a cloth and extending it to Dev'Ania. "Aleah. And you are?"

Dev shook the woman's hand. "I'm Dev'Ania. Or Dev. Whichever you prefer. I was wondering if I could work as a singer here. And maybe give some extra help as a barmaid?"

"Hm, just your lucky day. One of our performers hasn't shown up and we are quite busy tonight. Usually, I would ask a couple of questions before hiring someone, but I do need the help. How soon can you start?"

"Oh, I can start right now," Dev replied.

"Perfect. Just perform whenever you want, for now. When you aren't performing, just clean up the tables, give refills and such. " Aleah began mixing another drink for a customer. "That should be all for now. Later, we will sort everything out with a proper schedule and training. Oh, and there is an extra apron back here if you need it. Wouldn't want to get that pretty dress ruined by wine."

Dev'Ania was a bit taken back by the sudden employment, but she was also quite happy. After all of her searching for another job, she finally found one.

Unsure of what to say other than "thank you", she nodded and stepped behind the bar. She tucked her belonging in a corner, out of the way. She spotted where the extra apron was located. She looked around the bar, observing the many patrons socializing. Dev'Ania could tell how bored they were without any entertainment.

She made her way to the front of the tavern, walking slow, nervous she might make a fool of herself. Facing the patrons sitting at their tables, Dev tried to catch their attention by clearing her throat.

"Ahem...excuse me" Her voice was soft and unnoticeable. Dev'Ania could feel the butterflies forming in her stomach. Was this a good idea. She began rethinking asking to be a performer. How would she be able to perform in front of people is they wouldn't even listen to her? she looked at the bar to see if Aleah was looking at her. The two linked glances for a moment before the bartender gave her a reassuring look then got back to work.

Dev'Ania took a deep breath and began to sing a song she had written in her notebook.

The stars are shining brightly up above.
Shining down on this lively town.
The people are gathered in a tavern
With nothing to do but sit in chatter.

The melody was very soft and slow. Similar to a lullaby. Dev'Ania looked down at the floor, nervousness showing in her rosy cheeks. A few people in the audience directed their attention to her. Dev'Ania could feel the eyes of onlookers on her. She felt as if everyone was judging her every move. Yet, is she was going to have a lasting impression on the audience, she knew she would have to let go of all of her worries.

Dev lifted her head, scanning the tavern. Many people sat watching her, intrigued by her voice. She was relieved to know that she was finally being recognized by some people. Aleah was still behind the bar serving drinks to patrons. Occasionally, Aleah would look up at Dev'Ania to see how she was doing.

The Konti's webbed fingers gripped her dress with nervousness. Her limbs were stiff and stuck in place as she tried to move. Continuing to sing, she lifted her voice louder to catch the attention of people farther away. The more she sang, the less nervous she was. The audience watched her intently as they carried on their conversations. She had to be doing something right if the audience was still somewhat interested in her.

The smile on Dev's face became wider as her anxiety wisped away with the gentle breeze coming through the tavern windows. Dev'Ania moved out of the one spot she was standing in the entire time. The joints in her legs and arms loosened up, allowing her to move around the tavern.
