Character History
Terra grew up in a relatively small family. Her mother, Karal, is her father's, second wife, she was added to the family for her skills in healing. As his first wife, Rissabel, had fallen ill and they were hoping her mother could save her. Alas, Rissabel passed not even a month after the second union and Terra's mother His only wife and remained that way until her death. About 2 years later Terra was born, she was given a name that meant "earth" as her mother hoped for Terra to be strong and constant as the ground they walked on. Though her parents tried she never had any more siblings. Growing up Terra helped her father hunt and raise and train the horses. Often traveling with him when there was a sale to make in other cities. She grew up loving the work she did with her fathers' horses and often dreamed of the day her own strider would choose her and she would get her windmarks. Which finally happened when she was 8, with a mare her father had traded to get a bit of diversity in his herd. Unfortunately, the young mare died of an illness a year later that had taken a good half of her fathers' herd as well. When she was 16 her father allowed her to take for the training and breeding of the horses while he traveled for deliveries and hunted for the family. At the age of 18, she was still heading off her father's business, when a stray strider stallion found its way to their most prized mare. 12 months later the mare died giving birth to the largest and most firey colt Terra had ever seen.
Try as she might Terra could not calm this colt, nor could her father whose skills were wildly known across the entirety of Mizahar. After many broken bones and black eyes, they stopped trying. But the horse, who grew into large red dun (claybank) with hair that seemed to match Terras' hair color with a red dorsal stripe as well as chalky red legs and striping on his shoulders and flanks, chose to stay around despite the lack of attention he now got. As time went on he became a self-proclaimed protector for the family, though no one was ever able to get close enough to even touch him. The stallions mothers passing hit their business hard and the stock after which could never quite fetch as high a price as it once did, but it was enough to keep the family going.
Several years passed and Terra was now 22 her father and her were able to keep the family business going, eventually building in back to where it once was. Her father at this time decided it was time to marry her off, it was a year before he found a male who he deemed worthy enough for his daughter.
The male was from the Diamond clan, the clan full of warriors known for their weaponry and physical skill in fighting. Terra had met with him a handful of times within the few months that followed. Finally, the date was set the dowry was paid, as well were 2 of the family's best horses handed over, and in a week's time, the wedding ceremony was to take place.
Two nights before Terras' wedding day she woke up to the horrible sound of horses screaming and the roar of something she couldn't quite make out in her sleepy state. But then she felt a lick of too hot heat grabbing at her bare feet and she was running smelling the smoke before she saw the red, orange, and yellow of a fire dancing in the sky too close to where her mother and father slept, too close to where her beloved horses slept and grazed. She was running again scrambling for a bucket, for anything she could fill with water. By the time she found one it was to late her parents' tent was nothing but a pile of ashes as the fire went on to destroy more of the things, she called home.
Terra fell to her knees not 10 feet away from where be parents had been sleeping the fires heat warming her skin uncomfortably. She stayed like that for some time looking at the spot where the tent had been, the bucket full of water sitting in front of her, now evaporating in the wake of the fire. Beside the tent, not yet full turn to ash where the bodies of her parents' Striders. Tears began to fall as Terra looked at their charred bodies. She realized that the horses must have run over trying to stop the flames or perhaps they were trying to warn her parents, wake them up maybe. She supposed it didn't matter, they were all dead, and the rest of her family herd was gone, most likely having fled when the fire first started. Even the stallion who'd stayed with them for so long had disappeared. She was truly alone for the first time. Later that night as Terra continued to kneel in front of her parents ashes the sky let out a long loud rumble as if declaring the damage done and began to pour cold rain upon the fire putting it out and leaving an eerie hush over the scared land.
Thoroughly soaked and with nothing else left to do Terra retreated to her sleeping tent. Removing her ruined clothes before coving up in a blanket she laid down to cry, not caring if her wailing could be heard across the land. She stayed in her tent for days crying. She didn't care to eat and only drank when her mouth throat got so dry she wake up hacking. Her supposed to be wedding came and went, and her to be husband never came to see why her family never showed. She was okay with that though, she didn't want to marry anyways, it was better this way, she would be perfectly content to stay here and die. She happily decomposes returning to the earth not far from where her family had perished.
But a week passed and Terra was slowly realizing she didn't want to die, and she supposed the Gods didn't want her to die either or else they wouldn't have allowed her to wake up, unlike her parents. *Did they even know they were dying in a fire* she thought to ask herself one day. It took her a week to fully decide she wasn't going to give up, and with that thought she packed up her tent and her remaining supplies, dressed in her most comfortable pair of clothes and took off, making sure to stop and rifle through what remained of her parents belongings, nearly crying out when she found a bit of while and purple cloths a bit burned around the edges but intact enough for to begin warping around her hair as she made her way to a future only the Gods understood.
