Race: Inarta
Caste: Chiet
Gender: Male
Age: 31
Birthday: 16th, Winter, 488.
Birthplace: Wind Reach

Slim and wiry of build, Yvar has angular features framed with shoulder-length, strawberry blond locks and punctuated by a thin mustache and goatee beard. His blue eyes give off an air of affable friendliness, regardless of his current emotional state. Despite this, his features cause him to come across as a pensive introvert.

Character Concept

A bitter commoner, resentful of not having been selected to be an Eagle Rider. He compensates by studying to accrue knowledge that he hopes will provide him with the power and prestige his current life lacks.

Character History

Yvar was the second son of Karl, a competent if little known glassworker in Wind Reach. Growing up, he was a very bright and confident child who was loved by both parents for the short time he was with them - and rather spoiled by his mother enough to leave him feeling annoyingly entitled well into adulthood.

His youthful dream was always to be an Eagle Rider. Being clever and doing well at school, everyone expected him to achieve his dream - and told him so often. So assured was he of success, he ignored any opportunity to learn trades, even the glassworking at which his father had hoped he would excel.

When he was approaching adulthood and the time came to be introduced to the Wind Eagles, Yvar was not selected to become a rider. This resulted in him becoming embittered, blaming others for his being unable to achieve his heart's desire. Worse, he had neglected to show any talent for trades to which he'd been exposed.

So it was that Yvar, despite being born into a respected Avora family, was entered into the chiet caste. Taking work copying texts within the Enclave, Yvar committed himself to the role of scribe. Still embittered by the death of his dreams and his loss of station in life.

Occasionally, he will be charged with copying excerpts from interesting texts or his work will allow him to uncover useful information and obscure knowledge. It is at times like this that Yvar comes close to actually enjoying his work, despite the drudgery of his usual working day.

Sometimes, though his role bores him terribly causing him to surreptitiously kill time drawing doodles on pieces of scrap paper or chatting with other workers within the Enclave.

One such worker was an older woman who supervised the logging and archiving. Sialeessa was feared or even shunned by others - being of mixed blood made her the subject of a number of derogatory rumours. Being part Symenestran made many of those rumours sound too fantastic to be true.

Yvar, however, didn't fear her as the others did and they would chat on occasion about all manner of subjects. Some of their favourite topics of conversation were hidden knowledge, secrets, conspiracies and even magic. The conversations most intriguing to Yvar were when Sialeessa would speak to him of different types of magic at loose in the world - especially something about symbols that could be imbued with magic power to create magical effects.

Sialeessa seemed strangely knowledgeable on the subject and there were times when they spoke that Yvar suspected he was being tutored. Something about her depth of knowledge and the pains she took to be specific with him helped him gradually realise that he was, indeed, her student. Eventually, his suspicions were confirmed when she drew symbols for him and had him copy them. His thirst for greater knowledge on the subject grew and grew, though just as he felt he was beginning to learn something tangible, his studies suffered a setback.

One day, as Yvar arrived to work, Sialeessa was missing from her usual post in the Enclave. A replacement took over her duties and no-one seemed to know what had happened to Yvar's only friend and mentor. He furtively questioned other people within the Enclave, careful not to raise their suspicions that he was enquiring as to the strange supervisor's whereabouts. No one, it seemed, knew anything.

Although still working at the Enclave, Yvar is growing restless and longs to make a name for himself and to become as successful and respected as he feels he deserves to be. The only way he can see to do that is to leave Wind Reach to find adventure. Having said that, he considers it wise to make plans, gather resources and prepare before striking out and taking such a big risk.

Yvar misses having someone in whom he can confide and so is now more open to making new friends than he was before. Having had plenty to time to reluctantly accept his station in life, he is also a little less arrogant, more sympathetic and perhaps even wiser than his youthful self had been. Still, loneliness and the drudgery of his work has been getting to him. So much so that he has spent the last few months living a very meagre lifestyle to allow him to save for travel away from Wind Reach. Booking passage to Lhavit to seek a new life for himself, he has now found lodging and is beginning settle down.
