Character Name: Damir

Damir is a human with a large muscular build, light brown hair that he often wears tied up, and blue eyes. His Arms are taut with muscle from the days he spent repairing ships and practicing as a swordsman. His complexion is tan due to basically living on the water. He carries himself in a prideful and alert manner. He has a scar that runs nearly the full length of his back. How he acquired it is a story too dark for many. On his left bicep he has a simple tattoo of a whale, a reminder of his Sverfa heritage. His outfits are often simple but practical, he dislikes many forms of ostentation.

Character Concept:

Brave, Reckless, and loyal are the words best suited for Damir. He has taken a liking to travel and discovering the customs of the cultures he comes into contact with. A quick learner, with a surprising skill for memorization. He reads everything he can get his hands on. His ultimate goal would be to return to the Suvan Sea and rejoin his pod. But the pull of danger, revenge, and adventure continue to entice him, often landing him in precarious situations. His pride has often led him to take great risks to prove himself as a fighter, he prizes his reputation. Some would say he has quite a temper, which rises and subsides quickly. He feels most at home around water, it's the only thing that really calms him. It is where he feels the closest to Laviku, who he knows always watches over him, no matter how far from home he may have wandered. Of all the things he misses about home, it's the endless blue of the sea, as far as the eye could see. He often feels homesick, but he refuses to be sidetracked until he gets his curse lifted. No matter how strong the pull of the sea or home could be.

The memorization of large passages of various texts have allowed Damir to weave fabulous stories together. Everything from a lively romance, enthralling histories, and otherworldly escapes amongst the lost plains of time. Some would say that we are nothing but a collection of the moments of our past. With which Damir would agree, but the way in which we view the past, the way we color it, can be breathtaking, beautiful, or heartbreaking. Honestly, who knows, maybe the stories Damir tells over a strong drink, or a long walk are nothing more than a way of avoiding telling the story of his own past. But he prefers to call them predictions that may come to fruition in some distant future. That's for the listener to decide.

Character History:

Damir first heard of the settlement of Syka from a travelling merchant who happened to stop at his father’s ship repair shop. The man was accompanied by his beautiful blue-eyed daughter, being young and easily swayed, Damir fell for her charms, but the curse she laid upon him has left him broken in more ways than one.

The Curse

He felt it the very moment she left. An uneasy feeling settled over him, something felt different. When he tried to sleep that night, he tossed and turned with an incessant feeling of drowning. He would close his eyes and the waves would crash all over him. Constant and unending. When sleep did come for a few brief moments, he would wake up vomiting salt water. He went walking along the water as he had on other sleepless nights, and suddenly relief washed over him. He sat on the sand right at the water's edge, his eyelids heavy, finally falling asleep. From that day forward, only the water could alleviate what he realized was the curse placed on him.

That you could say was why Damir decided to travel, trying to outrun the curse which followed him like a shadow, ever present. He was searching for her. He had tried to forget her, tried numerous ways of lifting the curse, nothing worked. On his travels he has developed somewhat of a reputation for his reckless bravery. If he has learned anything on his journey so far it would be a distrust of nearly all types of magic, and anything beautiful comes with a darkness few may notice. He has put his skills as a carpenter and as a swordsman to good use, earning him the nickname, the sunrise sword.

Tell me all about your past:

Son of a sailor from the Suvan Sea Region who some reckon was a fierce pirate, who settled down, took a wife and had two sons, Damir being the younger. Damir and his brother both learned ship repair and sword fighting from their father. Their mother instilled in them a love of stories and reading. He and his brother also inherited their father’s sense of adventure and daring. He struck out on his own to the outside world, wanting to rid himself of his curse and find some closure. The brutality of the world outside his little village quickly left its mark on him. A constant reminder that demise comes quick and without warning. He knew his only way of surviving would be with either his mind or his sword. When not training with his weapon of choice, a fine Cutlass. He was reading, listening, observing, escaping into a world inside his own mind. Damir has wandered down some dark paths to seek out answers, or advice, both of which came with a high price.
