APPEARANCE:
Standing at 5'9" and weighing the average for such a height, Lesserage is atypical of most Vantha. His features consist of well-defined cheekbones, a swarthy yet wintry complexion, artificially dyed flame-red hair, and intelligent, cold blue eyes that can shift to a reddish purple when he is upset or a cheery golden when he's happy. A native of Avanthal, Lesserage is dressed for the cold most of the time, and usually sports furred Avanthalian winter garments. When he is on the road, a traveling cloak is added to his apparel, as is footwear made for the road. Being a wandering merchant, he also tends to change his clothes to suit the climate of the region he is in.
CHARACTER CONCEPT:
Lesserage Skyglow is a wandering trader and craftsman who hails from the wintry northern lands of Avanthal. Like most of his people, Lesserage is a great lover of tales, and is adept at weaving his own stories as well as eager to listen to any stories others' have to tell. The stories Lesserage gathers are then visually told through his exquisite carvings, slowly etched out on a grainy wooden canvas in intricate detail to do the story justice. More often than not, he will gift such carvings to the person who told him the story in the first place, as a reward for sparking his creativity. Lesserage has also been known to give away some of his wares for free in exchange for a good story, and his penchant for fantastic tales has led to him gaining a strange sort of charsima that ends up gathering large parties on his many journeys.
HISTORY:
Lesserage was born and raised in Skyglow Hold, a place of great beauty and nightly brilliance. Exposed to great works of art at a tender age, Lesserage was greatly influenced by what he saw, by who he grew up around, and by what he was taught. When he was but a child, Lesserage decided he wanted to be a craftsman - a carver, specifically - like the great many around him. His father, a traveling merchant, was rarely home, but his mother made a casual living as a skilled carver and imparted her art to him. On the few occasions when his father did return, Lesserage was told a great many stories of foreign splendor and outlandish charm. As he grew older, Lesserage's father returned home more and more often, no longer as fit as he once was, his health steadily declining. Finally, one day his father returned home, deathly ill, and was confined to his bed to recover. Lesserage and his mother took turns caring for his father while occasionally working and training as a carver. Months later, his father passed away, and left a dying note stating his wish that Lesserage go out to see the world. Making up his mind to fulfill his deceased parent's wishes, Lesserage bid his mother farewell, packed up his belongings, and with his mother's blessings, took his savings and made a risky business venture transporting goods in-between the various holds in and around Avanthal. This proved successful, and he was soon able to start making runs from Avanthal to other cities in Taldera, such as Novallas and Karjin, and even to the Jamourian Spires, where he had a short stay, learning about nature and the gifts of life. Recently, he has become interested in making a trip out of Taldera into Sylira, but he knows that if he is to venture into a land he is unfamiliar with, he will need skilled protection.
* Lesserage's beloved dagger, Kimmley, is a family heirloom that has been passed down four generations. The name of the dagger changes with each generation, as the owner will name the dagger after the most beloved person in his life. When the previous owner dies, their body is cremated and a pinch of their ashes is taken and put into the hollowed pommel of the dagger, joining the rest of the ancestral ashes. The next owner will then take up the dagger. The dagger's four owners have named it Moira, Jezi, Simone, Rebeka, and finally Kimmley.
* Lesserage is no fighter. He possesses little to no fighting skill, and relies on trusted bodyguards to get the job done should things come to a scuffle. He believes in peaceful negotiation over violent solutions, but he is not against letting battle take it's course should it be necessary.
