[Riki Stormheart]

Riki trusted Sama'el's nod but he wanted to know for himself. It was more for the fact that he did not want the horse to leave his care if she was not completely healthy. He moved to the Strider's side and felt along her sides and across his abdomen. If the flesh felt firm the horse had either just eaten or she was having blockage in her intestines. One would hope it was just food though. He would have hated to see the mare in pain. "Has she eaten lately? Her stomach feels a little tight but that could be from eating." He ran over herbs in his mind as he waited for Sama'el's answer. Bromelain would be good to improve digestion as well as Calamus. "I am going to listen to your stomach. I just want to make sure everything is okay in there." Riki spoke quietly to Dohaina as he pressed his ear to her side. Green eyes closed as Riki listened to Dohaina's gut. It seemed normal. Her stomach gurgled with a familiar sound of digestion. Sama'el would know best about his horse though. He would know her mannerisms better than Riki ever could. A smile came to Riki's lips when Sama'el brought up his sisters. "Funny you mention that. I am planning to return for a little bit when Endrykas get closer. I don't think I could stay away from my family for too long." He gave the boy a once over before letting out a small chuckle. "Have you met my sisters? Their names are Athe and Anila, both Stormhearts of course." The boy looked to be about their age although one could never be too sure. "How old are you? You seem to be around Athe's age. She is eighteen, Anila is seventeen." If Sama'el was as good with women as he was with his strider Riki would have been proud to see one of his sisters with him. Of course, he was just meeting the boy. "When are you heading back to Endrykas? I would really like to introduce them to you"

"She was chewing on some hay when I went to take her out and the ride down to the Sanctuary isn't so long," he said, kneeling beside Dohaina to listen as well. "Aye, that's just digestion. Her flesh feels right when her belly's not working on something." Nodding, he patted her side and stood up. She was putting up with the examination with good grace. She was a lady, after all, and even gave Riki a lippy "kiss" to let him know she wasn't thinking of biting him for the poking and prodding, however gentle. "Huh. She likes you." He grinned. "You should definitely visit. We'll hang out. You're the first Stormheart I've met, but I'll keep an eye out for your sisters. I'm nineteen this autumn... But I'm here until the Council has word for me to return to Endrykas. So... I'm not sure, actually."

"Good to hear." Riki smiled lightly at Dohaina's affection before turning to look at Sama'el. He was happy that the Drykas felt comfortable with him working with his Strider. He knew how protective he was with Spring. He would let other workers at the Sanctuary work on her if needed but he always preferred to work with her alone, or with Lakara if he ever got enough courage to ask her to work with him. "I'm glad. It's important for a healer to make their patients comfortable." Walking toward the mare's front he looked at Sama'el again. [color=yellow]"As well their companions and caretakers of course." Riki's eyes turned up to look at Dohaina's as he ran a hand down her neck. "Okay, I need to look at your gums now. I'll be gentle, I promise." Riki knew he had to be careful when doing an oral exam with an animal. While it was needed, they often did not like it when people they did not know were stinking their fingers in their mouth. Riki moved carefully, helping the mare to open her mouth and then moving two fingers into her mouth, pushing them against her gums. This was a test called blanching. If the color returned to her gums after a few seconds then they were healthy. "I know it feels weird. You are doing really well." Pulling his fingers away, he saw the white color of the gums slowly turn back to it's natural color. "Her gums are healthy too." A small smile formed on Riki's lips. He hoped that at least one of his sisters would catch Sama'el's eye, if not someone like him. He wanted Anila and Athe to find good men being that they would leave the Stormheart Pavilion to join their groom's. His sisters were the world to him and as snobbish as it might sound, he only wanted the best for them. "Well I am sure that the Sanctuary could make use of you. You have talked to Kavala, right?" He was pleased to know that there would be a fellow Drykas in his midst. He was aware the Kavala was Drykas, being that her father was. It was not the same was being with another full blooded Drykas. Of course there was also the fact that the Sanctuary was somewhat of a girl's club, the female staff far outweighing the male. "If you are sticking around for a while I'm sure you could help in the stables. I could even show you some things about medicine if you like."

Dohaina suffered through the examination without too much protest, though Sam expected her gait back to Riverfall would be rougher than absolutely necessary. She was smart, even for a Strider, and he would not put it past her to punish him for the indignation she was suffering just then. Nobody really liked to be poked and prodded, even if they understood the value of it. "I have spoken to Kavala, yes," he said, "and she told me I should meet you as well as a Raiha and others who live and work here. I'll certainly feel more at home here, I think. You'll see more of me, and I would be happy to learn more from you." He grinned.

I liked your description of your acrobatics maneuver, merging them seamlessly into being used with riding.
