Daejyn "Jyn" Basic Information Race: Mixed Race Birthday & Age : Early in the Season of Spring (exact date unknown) 492, age 19. Gender: Male Physical Description Daejyn is on the tallish side at about 6'1 with long lean limbs and a compact build reminiscent of a large cat, all sinew. His skin is an olive color that darkens in the sun. His hair is a very dark and cool black that has an almost blueish undertone. His eyes are an unexpected verdant green. Daejyn's facial features have and androgynous beauty and well defined lines. Character Concept Daejyn is an orphan and escaped Zith slave who is trying to make a new life for himself and infant daughter. Brave and smart, but uneducated and inexperienced at what it means to live life for himself. A rough past and a desire for something better drive him forward. Character History Daejyn has only the faintest memory of his childhood before the age of six or so. If he had parents, he has no memory of them, and although he thinks he once lived somewhere other than as a Zith slave, he has no real memory of it only a gut feeling that he wasn't actually born to slavery. His memories start around age six or seven though, already deeply entrenched in Zith slavery. A clever and dexterous child, he was kept around for hands that were quick and skilled at detailed tasks and a high energy level. As he hit puberty and his physical beauty became more apparent, as well as his own interest in dance and music, he was put to work as an entertainer, fire dancing and singing for Zith entertainment. His clever fingers were also able to braid or crochet harnesses for the zith to wear to carry things, they weren't flashy, but they were functional. The Zith family who owned Jyn encouraged free breeding among their slaves, only owning slaves with good genetics in the first place. Jyn had a briefly intense affair with a slave female named Yaana. It wasn't love, but it was passionate. When she caught pregnant, a longing for freedom that Jyn had always felt became an urgent need for a reason he couldn't quite explain. He'd been waiting for a chance to escape for years, but now he started to actively plan. When Yaana was a couple months along, he managed to flee with her to the Grass Sea, aiming for Riverfall. It was a hard trek into the unknown, terrifying. Never in love to start with Yaana and Jyn quickly got on each other's nerves during the high stress situation. She gave birth while they were still searching out the city, Daejyn the only one there to help birth the child. Luckily, it was an easy birth and required little more than for Yaana to push and Daejyn to catch. Yaana had seen enough other slave women give birth that she knew the basics to cut the cord and swaddle and nurse the baby girl whom they named Lilani, just because they liked the sound of it. They came to the encampment of Endrykas before they ever found Riverfall. They remained outside the encampment observing things for a few days. To Jyn, this seemed a better option than Rivenfall, where he had an idea he wouldn't be able to stay any way (he'd only ever heard stories of female slaves being accepted there). Yaana thought Riverfall was still the better option. They fought and she left. Daejyn assumed she would return, but she never did. To this day he has no idea if she set off for Riverfall or that if some predator took the opportunity to pick her off while she was alone. Left alone with a very small infant, Jyn entered the city of Endrykas. He himself was near starvation, every bit of nutrients he had found had gone to Yaana so she would continue to produce milk. Their daughter was also hungry, and Jyn had no way to nurse her. Out of options, and it not occurring to him that someone might actually just help him if asked, he attempted to steal milk and some food for himself and was caught. As per Drykas law, he was sentenced to do hard labor for the family he had stolen from. The family took some sympathy for him and his daughter and helped him get together enough supplies to survive, earning through his labor shelter and material belongings, as well as earn food for himself and milk for Lalani. One of the elder males of the Pavilion that he was to work for took an interest in him and has been helping him develop his fiber crafting skills. His labor for the family has been drawn out far longer because they've allowed him shorter days to use some of his other skills in entertaining to try and earn his way as well. Daejyn prefers to go by Jyn, and his doing his best to become a member of the Drykas. He is learning about horses, hearding, fighting and fiber crafts. He hopes to be chosen by a strider, but is in no way surprised it hasn't happened yet, considering his only experience is with his cobby old pony and only for a season. Still, even having no rights and being an indentured servant among the Drykas is miles better than a slave of the Zith, and at least his daughter will be free. He carries Lilani in a sling on his back or front at all times, and earns milk for her by doing routine manual labor for other people in the city, using his dancing and entertaining skills, and really, anything else he can do to eek out a survival.
