Basic Information

Race: Human
Birthday & Age: 18 (494 AV)
Gender: Male
Height: 5 Feet, 2 Inches
Weight: 83 lbs

Physical Description :
Muldris Koffurn, or Koffy, is a very small and sickly kid. He doesn’t eat much because he usually gets too obsessed with what he is doing to stop. In addition, he is very, very short. All this means that Koffurn is a very small person. He has hardly any muscle or fat either. He is usually the smallest one in a crowd, but he doesn’t exactly mind. He finds staying in the shadows quite preferable.

He has wild, short hair and long eyebrows. Koffurn’s eyes are small and the irises are dark grey. Someone once told him that grey eyes mean wisdom but such things don’t really interest him. Koffurn may have been handsome if he leaved a healthier lifestyle, but physical appearance means nothing to him. Why does it matter if other people find you attractive?

His skin is pulled so tight over his bones he practically looks like skeleton. Most clothes don’t fit very well and fall over him like robes. Thus he usually wears a patched leather vest and similar pants. The vest has a large, asymmetrical hood that Koffurn added himself. In addition, he has a huge backpack that he keeps and odd assortment of his belongings in.

Character Concept :
Koffurn seeks thrills wherever he can. Adventure is what he really loves, and exploring the darker side of the world is the most enjoyable of all. Things that are looked down upon by society really fascinate them and offer a thrill that more honorable pursuits do not. This dabbling in dark powers doesn’t make him evil though. He will defend those he can. Senseless murder is one of the things he does not condone.

He condones a lot of other things though. He is a cultural relativist, which basically means that people are entitled to their own opinions, beliefs, and practices. Who is to say that Rhysol is evil and Priskil is good? Everyone dances to his or her own song. Why is malediction a less wholesome pursuit than magecrafting? In Koffurn’s eyes, it’s not any more or less moral. This ideology brings him into conflict with some of Mizahar’s more righteous inhabitants. There is no good or evil. There is on this and that.

He is very forward and blunt. Koffurn rarely has a hidden agenda and is very open about his life and personal details. He doesn’t really have enemies or allies. There are merely those who like him or those who dislike him. If there are two conflicting sides, he will usually pick the one that is most beneficial to him, but even that isn’t certain. Koffurn can be very fickle and decide a side merely on whim.

He isn’t really and optimist or a pessimist. Things are just the way they are. He makes the best of situations but knows when to stop. He values his life tremendously and feels the need not to waste a moment. This unfortunately makes Koffurn a bit of a coward. He needs to stay alive and will run if it means saving his own skin. He is very independent and doesn’t need company to feel comfortable, but he finds people fascinating.

Character History :
Muldris Koffurn was born into slavery. He had no names other than those his masters and slavers gave him. Throughout the first ten years of his life, he had twice that many names. He did countless tasks and worked for a great many people. Every few months, he would be traded or sold. The young slave spent much time on the road just traveling from one owner to the next. He was just a young human slave after all. There was no particular reason to keep him around for very long. Koffurn could hardly speak until he was eight because no one bothered to teach him and his owners spoke many languages.

This was all good and fine until an eccentric man bought him from his former owner. The man was named Serzarus and Koffurn was his only slave. Koffurn’s new master gave him the name Muldris. The boy was not the first of this name though. Serzarus had many slaves all of who were named Muldris. They all had died under his service. His new master said that names held great power and all of his Muldrises had served loyally. At first, the man’s dark home in Sunberth seemed relatively normal and not much was asked from him.

That was just a phase though, and soon things got darker. His new master turned out to be a practitioner of the world’s darker “hobbies”. He would bring back corpses and commune with unsavory ghosts. Koffurn’s blood was used to make the soulmist that was paid to the ghosts as tribute for their information and service. Koffurn didn’t mind that so much, but Serzarus would often give the ghosts his body to use. The boy would regain consciousness the next day and be completely exhausted. He could only remember bits and pieces of what happened while he was out. Soon he was spending the majority of his days under the control of ghosts that his master needed. He did start to gain knowledge though. He learned much of the Legacy and Spiritism. He learned to read, write, and speak the Ancient Tongue.

On the days Serzarus wasn’t giving Koffurn’s body to spirits, he would teach the boy projection. The master was not gentle and much pain came from the learning, but soon he could project his fingers and then limbs. The master wasn’t doing this out of kindness though. He was just making the slave stronger so he could feed on more Djed through leeching. Koffurn would sit obediently next to his master as he worked and grow tired as Serzarus slowly drained him of nearly every ounce. The master would have the boy fetch tools using projection while he still had enough Djed and then let ghosts use his body when he was tapped out.

Working for the dark, old wizard wasn’t all that bad though. Koffurn found the work incredibly interesting and soaked up all the knowledge he could. He would never allow his master to know though. He had a feeling that knowledge had been the end of his predecessors. Serzarus had bad eyes as well. Meaning that Koffurn was often asked to read the thick texts his master had aloud. Serzarus would often compliment his slave’s eyes. Koffurn’s knowledge of Malediction made the compliments feel more like threats though.

After five years of loyal service, Serzarus was stabbed brutally to death at the hands of Koffurn. Koffurn didn’t kill him though. A ghost, who inhabited his body for the day, had plunged the knife into the old wizard multiple times. The ghost had left by the time the slave woke up, but a small fire had started in the house. The newly freed slave burst out of the house coughing and watched as his house of five years burned to the ground. While wood was still warm, he sifted through the hot wreckage and found a quite a few Mizas that he used to start a new life with familiar traces.

He continued working on the skills that his master had inadvertently taught him and cherished his new freedom. Everyday is a new adventure. Sometimes he will go out to free some ghosts or gain parts to work with. Other times he will go out just to meet people and socialize. Upon being free, he kept his last slave name and added a last name. He knew a lot of slaves without last names, but he didn't know a single free person without one. It was the final flourish of freedom.
