This northernmost city is the home of Morwen, The Goddess of Winter, and her followers who dwell year round in a land of frozen wonder. [Lore]

Silvy nodded and her long, silvery hair framed her delicate features in remembered grief. Her large mercury colored eyes looked glossy with unshed tears.
"Yes, my foster mother.. she died when I was about six moons old. I still love her and miss her very much."
Her husky voice broke at the simple sentence, so filled with deep heartfelt emotion. Silvy looked up at Coren with grief filled memories filling her entire expression.
'Was he angry that he'd lost a parent? I growled for moons after her death. At everything and nothing. Is Coren hurt by that? I would think he'd be sad, not angry. There must be more to what he is not saying. Why do they say only half the words to what humans really mean? If I ever get a bondmate, I hope I don't have that problem with him or her. It was too complicated to measure in just words. He should use his body postures more to convey what he intends. But then, he's not a wolf either; he's only human.'
Her thoughts were confused, but she hoped he would speak better words so she could know what he really meant.

Silvy nodded at his response, but when he touched her shoulder, she was surprised. He mingled his scent with hers to offer comfort--a wolfy gesture at its finest! She smiled up at him, her long, sharp canines exposed in what should have been a friendly grin. The Kelvic responded in a husky voice that rang of simplicity and sincerity.
"I come to the Temple because Vantha with strong faith, seem to show a more peaceful and kind nature. Once, when I was starving, some Vantha hunters left me a share of their kill! I was touched by their kindness, and when I met one of the party when I was in human form, she told me of this wonderful place. That Morwen brings peace and reverence of Nature and the Land with her blessings. It's so soothing here!"
The strange word distracted her effectively from her sad thoughts and the young woman frowned at the unusual word, so she asked what it meant.
"What is gnosis? I very much like winter's touch. It makes smells clearer, there's snow for ease of tracking, packing for warmth, and rolling in it for cleaning. There are lots of snug caves, large trees and rock levees that offer protection when the white blocks out the sky!"

Coren felt a bit of tension fade away as he saw the kelvic gave him a friendly grin in response to his pat on her back, not in the least disturbed by the sharp canine teeth she showed him as she did so. He was used to seeing dire polar bears roam through the streets of avanthal, so a kelvic with some sharp teeth wouldn't scare him in the least. Besides he really doubted somebody like silvy would attack him without it being his fault in the first place.
“So you come to the temple to meet other vantha? Or just to pay some kind of respect to the people who believe in morwen? Or just because its a soothing place” Coren replied to her enthusiastic answer before smiling from behind his mask at the young kelvic. “Or a combination of them all?” Coren prodded, a bit intrested in finding out. If she really was just here for the company or the soothing atmosphere he probably should try to keep her away from the more religious vantha around here. They could be a little bit.... pushy on the subject.
When the word gnosis sparked silvy's curiosity coren just let out a kind chuckle. Holding up his hand, hoping she would get the motion that she would have to be quit and listen for a short bit. “Well on its most basic, a gnosis is a mark given to a normal person by a god or goddess. And the mark usually grants the owner a very very small share of the divine magic of that god of goddess.” Coren explained. “If you really want we can go outside and I can give you a demonstration on it.” He offered, a small mischievous glint barely noticeble in the hooded man's eye. Though there wasn't any kind of malice in it. |

Silvy tilted her head to the side in a gesture of canine puzzlement. Hadn't she just told him why she came to the Temple? Would it make any sense to repeat herself?
The young Kelvic was unsure of if or how she should respond. The mask he wore obscured most of his face so she couldn't properly read his emotions. Was he sneering at her under the mask? Laughing? Frowning? Is he wearing the mask to hide his emotions from others and if he was, then why?
She'd already answered the question he'd asked again, so she simply nodded. Silvy didn't know a lot about humans, but she did understand that they subconsciously responded well to gestures better than words. Sometimes one set of words needed more words to make the first words comprehended. But nodding or shaking your head was a very clear gesture. She noted that Coren's eyes whirled with emotion when she'd mentioned Gnosis and he held up a hand.
'Strange behavior to ask a question of something I've already answered and then hold up a hand. Is that a Vantha or human habit? And what does it mean?' She pondered, her silver eyes looked at the raised hand, wondering why it was moved and what was its purpose. He held no weapon, nor was he eating or holding anything.
When he mentioned going outside, she nodded while she said yes. It was difficult talking to someone when you couldn't see their face clearly and words didn't always mean the same thing to different people.

Coren just continued to smile even as the only answer to his question about why she exactly came here was just a nod. She probably meant with that that she was here for all three of those things here anyway. As she approved of going outside coren just shoved his hands back into his pockets. “Okay, follow me then.” before he turned around and out of the temple, pulling on his hood as the cool wind brushed against his uncovered hair, even though his gnosis would have kept his safe against this kind of cold.
After he was a few meters away from the entrance of the temple he bend down and grabbed a handfull of snow and turned back towards the entrance, most likely seeing silvy walking after him. “Well, like I said a moment ago a gnosis alway's reflects the god who gave it. And since Morwen is the god of ice and winter. Can you give me a guess what a gnosis from her would do?” He looked at her, with an expectant look in his eyes. Hoping that she would figure it out. |

Silvy wasn't very good at conversation yet, but then again, she'd only been speaking as a human for two short years. Finer and more subtle nuances of conversation were completely lost on her black and white mentality. Silvy just wasn't old enough or experienced enough to communicate well with just words. The young woman followed quietly, curious to what Coren intended next. Humans were always doing or saying something unpredictable and it piqued her interest.
The moment they stepped into the outside breeze, the young Kelvic's posture relaxed noticeably. The wind felt fresh and clean on her face and brought many scent for her to puzzle over and identify. She loved Avanthal and its cold, snowy climate.
The young man asked her a question with a testing expression. The pitch of his voice raised at the end as if he expected something from her. Silvy pondered for a moment what his comment could mean and why was it so important to him? His face looked excited and enthusiastic about the topic and she was glad simply because Coren was.
"If Morwen is about ice and winter then her gnosis would be about ice and winter, yes?"

Coren gave silvy an exited nod in approval as she answered him, almost getting it spot on. “You are right about that.” He said, as he was forming the bit of snow he was holding in a firm snowball. “Morwen's gnosis, which is called icereaving, grants people a certain amount of control over ice and snow. Not to mention a greater resistance against the cold. Of course, how much cold you can resist without problem and how much ice you are able to manipulate depends on how much marks you have.” He holds up the snowball at silvy's eye level and tapped his gnosis, forcing the snowball to slowly start melting and even though the ice cold water ran over his uncovered hand, he didn't even feel it. When the entire snowball was melted he quickly wiped his hand dry on his robe, he might not feel the cold that badly anymore, but he could still get frostbite. “That is a slight example of what morwins mark can do. I can't show you the rest I'm afraid, I only am marked once so this is all what I can do.” He looked back towards the kelvic in front of him. “You have any more questions about a gnosis? Or about morwen? I will try to answer them as good as I can.” |
