Like many humans in the harsh world of Mizahar Mason seems older then he is due to a harsh life and sometimes bitter conditions. He has a slight tan from exposure to the sun from his earlier years living in Zeltiva. He has very black hair and he keeps it messy most of the time as it gives him a look of someone that should be taken seriously. He keeps clean and shaven, but keeps a bit of stubble on his face to make him seem more rugged and older then he is. He has dark brown eyes that show a keen intellect behind them.

Concept
Character Concept
Mason is a leader born, raised, and forged. He seems to have the odd ability to uncannily predict his opponents on the battlefield in both one on one combat and in large scale battles. It almost seems as if leadership was part of his instinct and he naturally knew how to command. He has magical talent but no one has taught him how to use it. A master tactician, negotiator and commander he is being closely watched by the Syliran Knights as he rises in their ranks.
His earliest memory is when he was about 8 or 9 in which he found himself in Lisnar washed up on the shore. He was in fact placed there by a set of mages that were studying the concept of leadership and they had experimented on and conditioned him when he was but a toddler. This was all in secret but they try to keep an eye on him to see how their experiment is progressing. This has left him with an instinct to lead as if he is compelled to find positions of authority and exert his leadership. In addition he has a special power that he doesn't understand in which he can perform infinite calculations within his mind instantly. In essence it allows him to see every possibility and react faster then normal but he seems to only be able to activate this ability when in distress.
Personality
Personality
Mason has a keen knowledge for strategy and command. He prides himself on his ability to lead and it comes naturally to him. He still has much to learn about leadership but his skills are far higher in the field of command then most (if not all) at his age. He has a talent for motivating people and many have even said they sense an aura of command about him. He is prone to passionate speeches but these are often well thought out and help motivate and persuade those around him.
Mason is a proud person and doesn't take defeat with as much grace as many. This sometimes comes out as pure stubbornness but its really a matter of pride to him. His honor is also tied to his pride. If he makes a promise he does everything in his power to uphold it. To him a promise is his word and he will not break his word for anything. This sometimes gets him in trouble as he tends to be a bit too honest in situations where subtlety and lies would avoid trouble.
All this seems to hide who he wants to be though as if he is forced into the role of leader when he would rather like a simpler life. He enjoys hunting, fishing and other outdoor activities. He likes the idea of being in nature and sometimes he goes though bought of depression within his role as a leader. These spells do not last long though as he knows what he must do he just sometimes wonders why he must.
Morals
Morals
It could be said that Mason's morals are in alignment with a traditional Neutral Good person. He sees suffering and will want to stop it. If he sees injustice he wants to bring judgement. He doesn't stand for tyranny or slavery and indeed he has a passionate hatred for anyone involved in either. He sees both as perversions of leadership and he feels it slowly chips away at the soul of the world. He believes that the Syliran Knights should take a more active role against these things but understands the need to establish civilization here in Syliras.
He values loyalty, honesty, bravery and wisdom. He shares a lot of similar believes that the Syliran Knights have. The only exception is that he has a hard time believing in the Windoak. He has had a vision from the tree for his quest to become a Knight but he still has trouble believing. He wants to and keeps it a secret. He is often changing the topic whenever it comes up and luckily he is quite skilled at persuasion so his secret stays for now. His main problem is just honoring it as a god when at most it is a fragment of the gods body. He has no problem that other believe in it he just wants to believe in something that has more form and influence within the celestial realms.
Merits
- Natural Leader - This is his most defining quality and one that can lead him to great status. This borders on supernatural talent those as he seems to have an abnormal talent for leading both on the battlefield and off.
- Aura Of Command - His presence seems to inspire those around him. He has a way of carrying himself that makes people think he belongs in a position leadership. One could even say this Aura he portrays borders on the supernatural.
- Physically Fit - He is in better shape then most humans. He has an intense training regime that he start everyday with. This involves running, pullups, situps, and a session of intense swordsmanship training in which he tries to improve his skills.
- Augmented - His body has been changed in someway that he doesn't understand. His early childhood is shrouded in mystery but he is aware that at some point in time his life he was given some sort of magical enhancement. How or why he has this, he doesn't know nor does he understand it fully. Perhaps, if he was officially trained in magic he might be able to fully understand the changes done to him.
- Favored - Due to his ability to lead he is favored for promotion. That is not to say that he is next in line but rather members of the Syliran Knights have an eye on him. This tend to place him in better posts then some of the other Knights to allow his abilities to shine and allow him the opportunity to prove himself.
Flaws
- Overconfident - No one can say that Mason lacks self-confidence. He tends to think he can do too much and sometimes over extends himself. A series of amazing successes has also set his opinion of himself higher then would be advised. Perhaps this is because he hasn't truly learned how to lose.
- Tough - He tends to be tough on those he knows. Not because he hates them, but because he wants them to become better people. He is hard on his friends to make them want to improve themselves. He doesn't let people pity themselves as he knows its best to confront that which is difficult or else you let it control you. This sometimes puts him at odds with people he knows...much to his disappointment.
- Trusting - In many settings this would be a good thing but in the world of Mizahar, a trusting nature often comes to bite one in the ass. He believes that everyone deserves a chance. He takes them at their word at first, he believes that in showing trust and honoring his own word he sets an example for others to follow.
- Grudges - Earning a grudge with Mason is a bad thing. He doesn't let go of his hatred easily. To him it takes great effort to earn forgiveness. In a minor way this also goes into trust. If one was to betray his trust it is very difficult to convince him that they can be trusted once again. That doesn't mean a person cannot get back in his good graces but it takes a prodigious act to change his opinion of someone that has wronged him.
- Stubborn - Once Mason has his mind set on something its hard to stop him. This doesn't mean he is set in his ways as he understand the need to change tactics and adapt but rather once he has his mind set on a path he follows through like a charging bull. One might have an easier time stopping an avalanche then trying to make Mason change course. That doesn't mean he won't change his own mind, but he tends to resist others attempts to change his mind for him.
Likes
- Puzzles - Puzzles and riddles give Mason enjoyment. He loves it when they are very challenging and the harder the better as it tends to challenge his mind. He also enjoys timing himself in a constant effort to improve his ability to think outside the box. He often feels like the act of solving a puzzle or riddle fulfills some sort of need in himself.
- Fame - Sadly...Mason has a bit of flair for the dramatic. He loves being known and enjoys fame and attention when he receives it. He is not above encouraging tales of his deeds and fostering a bit of a name for himself. Taking missions and quests that lead to heroism and fame is a high motivation for him.
- Hunting - More of a hobby at this time he doesn't have the true skills to be a hunter. What he does love is pitting his tactical skills against wild beasts. This may seem an odd way to hunt but he has managed it several times and indeed using tactics has proven useful in hunting more dangerous creatures. Still, he would like to know more about this art beyond "Point an Arrow and shoot".
- Fishing - Another skill that Mason wishes he knew more about. He loves to lead but he feels compelled to lead as if he has too. He wants to be more of an outdoorsman though. He likes the idea of fishing and hunting. When he finds that things get stressful he will grab a fishing pole and just hook a simple worm to it to go fishing with. He finds it clears his mind and allows him to think of things beyond tactics, leadership and other more serious matters. It allows him to think about himself.
- Akvatari - His earliest memory is that of waking up near the shores of Lisnar. He clearly remembers the feeling of hands that were under the water saving his life and pulling him to shore. He barely remembers seeing some sort of being that had a tail and what appeared to be wings. This brief glimpse allowed him to figure out what exactly he had seen. The only thing that seemed to fit was the race Akvatari and as a result he feels he owns them a debt and enjoys their artistic abilities.
Dislikes
- Cowards - There is nothing more distasteful in Mason's eyes then a coward. He doesn't mind if someone is scared of something but a coward that lets fears rule their life is a sad way to exist. One of the most grievous things a solider could ever do is abandon the field due to cowardice. He cannot even stand to be in the presence of such a person and will even rudely leave whatever room they enter in disgust on occasion.
- Zith - A race of slavers, tormentors, and killers. If there was ever a need to hate a race there was probably no need for more in this case. He hates them and in their case never believes anything they say to him on general principal. He has been lied to by them multiple times. Once he was almost sold into slavery by these soulless winged demons of the sky. That experience only hardened his hatred for these creatures.
- Storms - Mason is not a coward, but his mind often has flashes of storms and torrents of hail. He is afraid of storms and tries not to let it effect him. He is not sure which is stronger; his fear of storms or his desire to save people. At times he fears the answer and hopes that he never needs to face such a scenario. At times he fears he might find out why he fears the storms.
- Fate - Mason doesn't like the idea that he isn't in control of his own destiny. That doesn't mean he hates Seers or people that have the ability to predict the future. He just hates the whole concept. As far as he is concerned its a sickness that takes away peoples freewill and he fights any fate that is set upon him. He likes to think that the mortal races have control of their own destiny.
- Losing - Mason is not the best loser. His over-confidence lends to this. He tends to feel a bit too full of himself. His bad losing mood can take several forms. If it is something simple like a game of luck he doesn't tend to care. Losing a game of strategy tends to lead him to rechallenge over and over again until he masters it. Things he prides himself that he loses in can sometimes goad him to anger. That doesn't mean he act rashly but he tends to be someone you want to avoid when he loses in something like a game of chess or a tactical simulation.

History

Beach
Mason's beginnings are marked with misfortune. He was found on the beaches of Linsar. He was holding into a splintered board of a ship when some of the townsfolk found him. No one really questioned his origin as it was blindingly obviously that he was a survivor of a pirate attack. The board he was clinging to had scorch marks and he was found to have a few minor cuts that looked to be made by a weapon of sorts. The only remarkable thing about him was the fact he didn't know anything. It was as if he was a blank slate and had no memories. As he had no name he was dubbed "The Drifter" by the local townsfolk.
He could speak and seemed like a sharp kid though. He was perhaps 6, 7 or 8 when he was found. It was hard to say his age for certain as he was suffering from malnutrition when found. It was amazing he survived at all as a nasty storm had blown in just the night before. It was impressive that he managed to stay on that board during such an ordeal.
As for Mason, he did recall the storm. He clearly remembered a sensation of rising out of the water. He, at one point, believed he came from the bottom of the ocean. He had a dream about it once. One thing he clearly remembers was holding onto that board for shear life. He remembered thinking he was going to die and he didn't even know how he got there. It was when all hoped seemed lost that he felt something beneath the waves hold him. The storm was too violent but he remembered vague details and sketchy outlines of whatever creature saved him.
It had a fin...or maybe two fins it was hard to say. At first he thought it was another human but the shadowy figure it had did not match. He was also sure he saw something like wings on what saved him. They were perhaps batwings? Whatever it was he only saw brief glimpses of it. He was very grateful to the creature though as it guided him through most of the storm. He knew he wanted to find out what saved him and properly thank the creature for saving his life.

Linsar
Linsar was Mason's first home. He was quickly placed in an orphanage as children without their parents was still a common thing among outlying lands. Linsar was not exempt from its share of hardship and sadness. Linsar may not have been the ideal home for Mason but he adjusted to the harshness of luring there. He found ways to cope and who to avoid when one didn't want trouble. Life at the orphanage was often a place to find trouble though.
Mason was first able to display his amazing instinct to lead here. Within two weeks the entire orphanage seemed to revolve around him. Almost all of the children there looked to him for guidance and although he didn't fully understand leading people he found that he coupe take charge when times were tough. Unfortunately this landed him in trouble...a lot. He was almost always the ring leader of a little gang and if one of them got in trouble Mason was normally to blame.
He would not be adopted during his stay but he was not completely unhappy. The owners of the orphanage gave him a name after a time. They called him Mason. He was called this because he seemed to have the ability to build a following much like a Mason builds a house. He would accomplish the task step by step until he had a good foundation with the other children and then he instinctually took the role of leader.
Mason had an unfortunate habit of getting into trouble at this time and spent a bit of time as a thief. He would have probably turned to a complete life of thievery if not for a kind man that helped to set hi on the right path. It was an atypical meeting in which Mason was very hungry and stole from the man but was caught. Instead of being turned in though the man gave him advice and offered him a job in Zeltiva. Mason was young but he knew the value of a good days work for ones own pay. He decided to take the man up on his offer.

Zeltiva
Zeltiva was a new world for Mason. He was no longer the orphan brat in charge of his own gang. He was instead some one that contributes. He didn't know it at the time but he was approached by a man known as Professor Trillm. He was pleased that Mason chose to turn away form a life of crime and instead want to make a name for himself. He was set on a course that would change his life. The interesting thing about Trillm was that he was obsessed with teaching Mason ore about leadership and indeed he learned a lot from him about the subject.
Perhaps it was Mason's own doing as he was very happy to be learning such topics. He actually learned a lot from the Professor. He was taught many lessons about a great many topics. He doesn't remember them all but from time to time he has found that knowledge useful. He spent his time with the professor mainly learning about various things and it was here that he discovered what he believed was his savior from when he washed up on the beaches of Linsar three years ago. He was happy to be with the professor and enjoyed their lessons together.
Mason earned his living by sorting and stacking books in the library found at the university that was found in Zeltiva. He didn't really become a bookworm while there but he did become fascinated in various subjects. The one he found most intriguing was books and files on the Sylivan Knights. He read tale after tale of their recent heroic deeds. He thought it was amazing how they had managed to bring humanity back from the brink of anarchy and formed the great city of Syliras. Tales of Lawrence Dyres and his brother Leon Dyres set Mason's blood aflame with imagination and passion. He wanted to be someone like them. Someone that could lead a nation to peace and civility.
Mason brought his desire to join the ranks of the Knights to the Professor. At first he expected him to say no. He still had much to learn and the Professor had only scratched the surface of what the man could teach him. He was surprised that the professor gave him his blessings. It took only a month to set things in order and soon Mason was on his way with a caravan to The capitol city of Syliras. He was on his way to join the knights and find a place in the world for himself. His dreams of heroism and leadership fresh in his mind as he made his way there.

Squire
Mason's journey to the capital city of Syliras was a reletively quiet journey. He managed to hitch a ride with a supply convoy. The large group that he travelled with was a good enough deterent for most dangers that are found within the world. When he arrived he was eager and ready to join the knights immediately. Things didn't go as smoothly as he would have liked though. He had his sword, a shield, money to get started and everything else...except a reference.
As it turns out, it takes a bit of effort to become a knight. Apparently, he needed to get a bit of a reference in order to progress. There were a few methods for achieving this task but the most prominent method is getting a placed as a squire. He had a little bit of trouble getting placed as a squire under one of the famed knights of Syrlis but he managed to accomplish it after a bit of time. It just took a little bit of proving himself competent. He had many skills and talents by this time and he was able to impress a few knights with his abilities. Professor Trillm had taught Mason well and those lessons were put to good use in placing him under the wing of a well honored knight. With his new position as a squire he was ready to start his quest in becoming a knight.
The months passed quickly for Mason. He was able to improve on many of his skills. He was learning more and more about becoming a knight. This included new lessons in swordsmenship, horse riding, and many other things. He was very impressive with many things but horse riding was not one of them. It was important that knights learn to ride a horse so that they could travel quickly. Mason had many difficulties with this particular talent however. It may have been that the horses seemed to dislike him, or perhaps he just didn't have the right talents to ride the beasts. Whatever the case horsemanship seemed to be the bane of his ambition. He tried to make up for his failure with horse riding with other skills. He was very impressive in his attempt to make up for his flaw. Unfortunately, it seemed he was passed for promotion again and again for other candidates.
It was beginning to look as if horsemanship would be his downfall. He wasn't about to give up but he felt that he was going to be stuck as a squire forever. This may have been the case if not for fate stepping in and giving Mason a chance to shine with his true potential, Leadership. This would also be the time that Mason would discover that his life is far more complex then he ever knew.

Gifted
Mason discovered a lot about his past during a single fateful mission that went badly. Mason, six other squires and three knights were all on the same mission. This mission was to investigate reports of a Zith encampment that was picking people up on the main pathways from Zeltiva to Syliras. They were going to go meet up with another force to protect an important shipment. All told it should have been a well protected shipment of supplies. Unfortunately, Mason and his group never made it to the rendezvous point.
THey were ambushed by Zith slavers on the way to meet up with the rest of the protection convoy. They swooped down from the skies during the night and took out the squire and knight that were on watch. This left the rest of them at the Zith's mercy. Needless to say they were captured. The Zith knew of the Knights veracity in combat and killed the other two on the spot deciding that they would be too much trouble to be used as slaves...their bodies...were not recovered. Mason and the other four living squires were placed in cages and were going to be sold into slavery once they were "broken". Mason still has nightmares of some of the things they started to do on the way to their main encampment.
It seemed as if hope was lost but Mason never gave up. He continued to try and escape and each attempt landed him in some form of punishment. It was getting to the point that the Zith were about to kill him. His compatriots were not faring well and if they made it back to the Zith slave camp he knew it would be over. Their trip has taken three weeks at this time and he was weak and in constant pain due to a recent lashing he had taken when he was presented with another opportunity to escape. He looked at the slim chance of escape and for a moment thought to finally give in. His allies had already given in to either madness or despair from the torment the Zith had been inflicting on them. He wouldn't give in though, he would make them kill him or he would escape.
His attempt was going well at first but he was given away by another captive. Everything was falling apart as several Zith were closing in on him. In his panic something happened. A glyph appeared on his body and the entire world seemed to stop in a moment of perfect clarity. In this moment a god appeared before him. His name was Wysar. He told Mason that his blessing was evoked in Mason's name when he was younger. Having now proved himself worthy, dedicated, determined, integrity, conviction, and cunning he has proved worthy of receiving the mark that was asked to be bestowed upon him when he was but a child. Mason didn't have to accept this gift of the gods but having proved that he valued many of the aspects that Wysar respects he was given an opportunity but in return he would need to repay the boon at some later date.
Mason took it. With it, his moment of clarity expanded to understanding. In one moment he understood all the options that laid before him. It was as if every plan that could ever be considered was suddenly presented before him in perfect details. Escape plans never thought of before were now options. Even in this dreaded circumstance he could see options for escape. Once he settled on a plan the world snapped back into sync and he sprang into action. He executed a plan that would have normally taken day to plan and perfect. He did it flawlessly as if he has practiced this plan hundred of times and because of this he was able to escape the Zith. Not only did he escape but he managed to free the majority of new catches the Zith had and organized a mass breakout while stopping and killing several of the Zith captors forcing their retreat.
Returning bruised, battered, but victorious they came home. Mason had saved twenty two people with his tactical skills. This finally gave hi the recognition he needed to progress further in the ranks of the knights. After the congratulations and accolades Mason found himself with his thoughts. It has been nagging at the back of his mind even since he appeared...Wysar had been watching him. He also mentioned that Mason was named and he never knew. It was then he knew that something odd had happened during the time of his childhood that he cannot remember.
He couldn't help but wonder why Wysar had taken an interest in him nor could he understand why someone would try to gain his blessing when he was but a child. Did gods normally bestow powerful Gnosis marks on children? He couldn't remember, he knew he had a lot to figure out and as he has never even touched a single book on magic he had a lot to learn now. He was also determined to find out more about the god Wysar and try to figure out why he took such an interest in Mason's life. In addition, he was going to find out exactly what happened to him when he was but a young boy.

Training & Skill Points

Primary Skills
- Leadership - 30 By far his most impressive skill. Mason has a natural knack for leading. His very presence suggests leader. This rare talent to lead is a great talent for him as he understands how to motivate others and how best to coordinate individual talents.
- Tactics - 15 An advancement of Mason's leadership talents is his ability to understand tactics. He hasn't had much experience in this special branch of leadership but it is obvious he understands how to implement battlefield and personal tactics when in combat.
- Weapon (Scimitar) - 10 Although not the most skilled with a scimitar it is his favored weapon. He practices with this curved blade often and prefers the thinner versions in which he is more skilled with at the moment. He still has a lot to learn about swordsmanship though.
- Persuasion - 10 Another avenue of his ability to lead is his ability to convince people to follow. He has a knack for convincing people to follow his lead when they seem at a loss on how to proceed. With more time and a bit more fame he may be able to persuade people to follow all the time.
Secondary Skills
Lore
- Knowledge, Syliras History - Mason is quite knowledgeable about the history of Syliras. He has spent a good amount of time living there and lives there now. It has become somewhat of a hobby of his to find out every little detail of Syliras History. Considering it was created after the Valterrian means it doesn't have the longest history but it is one of the most fascinating to learn about. There are many examples of greatness and heroism in its grand beginning.
- Master Of Chess - Taught to him at a semi-young age, Mason has an amazing talent for this simple game. He seems to have an uncanny ability to read his opponent and predict how they will move. To this date he has only been beaten in this game by Professor Trillm. He uses this game often in several mental exercises that not only improve his game but also his ability to puzzle out his moves in life.
Magic And Abilities
- Evantia - Gnosis 1 Mark, Mason has had a mark from Wysar since he was born. He has learned that this was given to him when he was younger but he does not know why he received such an honor. Indeed, until his encounter with the Zith he had not known about this ability at all. The only thing that he knows about this Mark from Wysar is that someone else requested that he be given the Mark.
- Infinity Perception - Gnosis Ability - This odd ability is known to Mason, but he has no idea what triggers it. He has no training as a mage and as a result doesn't understand what triggers this ability beyond him being in extreme stress. It allows him to perceive every possibility available to him in an instant. This has saved his life twice but beyond these two circumstances he has not had a way to use this ability again. The best way to describe it is his mind clears and time seems to freeze everything allowing him time to analyze and understand all his options in a certain circumstance. It makes him super aware of his surroundings and allows him to contemplate complex solutions instantly.

Rare Items
- Chess Set - Hierloom This item was given to Mason by Professor Trillm. He treasures this item and practices this game religiously. He views this game as a good way to test one's ability to lead against another. Mason can easily be considered a master of such a game.
Housing
Mason lives in a simple house of his own which was provided by the Syliran Knights. As he has come to understand this house once belonged to another Knight that has recently passed away but that he was free to use it. He knew this wasn't common in the ranks of the Knights so he took this as a sign that he was making a good impression with the Commanders. He was glad to have the house and it had a few extra rooms although two of these extra rooms were taken by his two squires. In essence it was a shared home with those two squires and the only room he had that was private was his small bedroom and a study in which he enjoys a game of chess every now and again.
His study is a simple desk and chair with a lantern at this time. He has many papers stacked up in which he keeps notes and writes down ideas he has. In many ways it is like these spare pieces of papers act as his journal. His chess set is here and he keeps in on a shelve that is empty except for a few knick knacks that are scattered about the shelf. His study may seem a bit untidy but he has a system in his storage.
His bedroom is very simple as well consisting of a single bed with a bedside table that he keeps a candle on near. At the foot of the bed is a chest that he locks and keeps important items inside of. There is also a stand nearby that he uses for hanging his weapons and armor. He plans to commission a special set of armor made for himself if he ever progresses to higher ranks within the Knights. it gives him a minor goal to reach for and reminds him that not all goals are out of reach.
