The vast mountain range of Kalea is home of secret valleys, dead-end canyons, and passes that lead to places long forgotten or yet to be discovered.

Night of the Hunter

52nd Spring 512 A.V.
Eleven bells.

Night had fallen, and with it so did Rorugir.

A whisper of cloth. The soft clicking of nails. A sigh. These were the only warning signs Lhavit's animals had of his presence beyond the shadowy forms that drew near, the sounds long scattering the wild before they could even get close. The mountain trail that they went by was rough and not easily managed by day, let alone night, but thus far the trip had been relatively easy. Above, Lhavit's skyglass bounced moonlight onto their path, a pale hue cast upon the horse and rider that gave them the semblance of pale Dira, come to collect. But even with the deceiving nature of Leth's glow on them, the isurian nature of the man who sat astride the gilding was evident, as was the portent that was held in his brown eyes.

Rorugir still was not acquainted with his horse, being but two strangers thrust upon a journey together by a strange twist of fate. Tempest, as the gilding was called, had up until a chime ago been owned by a Human trader staying currently in Lhavit. But on today, the most important day in the blacksmith's life thus, he had stumbled across the foreign horse seller. Mizas had changed hands, and Tempest had become his. Now, which was only a few turns of Tanroa's hourglass later, Tempest had already proved her worth. Her palomino coat, a shade like brown sugar laced with a mane of ice, glowed with a the gilding-born luminosity; that glow made navigating the nighttime travel easier for Rorugir, a novice rider. He would be the first to admit he needed all the help he could get.

But she didn't like him, or so Rorugir suspected.

The crunch of rocks was suspended and replaced by the sound of a whinny. Tempest stopped. Even so it took a moment for Rorugir to realize that they had reached the base of the mountain - the shack of the shepherd Hachia Koat lay but a stone's throw away. Chocolate brown eyes kept it within his sight. He was really doing it, then. He was leaving Lhavit.

He turned in his saddle, eyes scattered upwards to look at his once-home. Lhavit hung like a chandelier in the sky, the bridges spanning the peaks seeming fragile but reinforced by a Goddess's grace. Even now the fragrant aromas of spice, sugar, and the other scents of Lhavit's active nighttime reached his nose. It was intimately familiar to him. Too familiar...

Something uncomfortable festered within the pit of his stomach, and he had no choice but to tear his gaze away. Instead, he chose to look beyond. Behind the peaks the moon reined in the sky, but Leth's current position signified he would do so for long. Dawn was coming. And Rorugir had to be away from Lhavit by the time it did.

The quiver of anxiety, a shot of pain through a mournful heart...was this to be the last thing he felt before he left? How strange. He hadn't felt this upon leaving Sultros. No, indeed - he hadn't. Rorugir frowned, but then washed ithe look off his face. He couldn't linger - so he paid his home for two seasons one last look. And then, a muttered “Let's go,” and his heels were put to Tempest's sides.

The clicking resumed, and Rorugir faded into the blackness of the coming morn.
