Last Minute Preparations [Solo]

59th Spring 512 AV

The Sailors' Guild Hall was a landmark in Zeltiva. It was an establishment which held the offices of powerful people. Nira'lia had only been there once, and that was years ago, when she accompanied her mother. At the time, they were there to purchase a cottage that was located on land owned by the Sailors' Guild.

This time around, Nira'lia was here to sell the house back.

The Konti looked at the establishment. It was one of the more extravagant buildings in the city. Its strong structure was somehow able to withstand the desctructive storm -- or perhaps it had already been rebuilt.

Nira'lia opened the massive oak doors and stepped inside. She walked through the small antechamber that led to the huge hall. The hall was enormous, and the Konti could not help but marvel at it. Looking around, she saw that there were no officers. A few people were around, but Nira'lia didn't know who they were. They could have been part of the guild, but it was also possible that like her, they were there for business with the guild.

Brass plaques were visible on the doors of the offices. They each had a title, but no names. Puzzled, Nira'lia saw that all of them had the exact same words on them. All these people were Administrative Committee Officers.

'Which one am I supposed to enter?' she asked herself, extremely confused.

Confused, the Konti decided to knock on the door nearest to her.

"Come in," said a man's voice. Gingerly, Nira'lia opened the door and stepped inside. A man who seemed vaguely familiar to her was seated behind a desk. He looked up at her and urged her to take a seat, which she did.

"Hello," said Nira'lia with a smile. "My name's Nira'lia... I was sent here by mother. You have spoken to her before, and I'm to give you these..."

She handed him some papers. It was the deed of their humble cottage. The man took it from her and peered at it.

"Ah, yes," he said, nodding. "Has it been repaired? I remember telling your mother that we cannot pay full price unless it has been repaired."

Nira'lia nodded. The house had been slightly wrecked because of the storm. Some workers had been repairing the houses down her street, and fortunately, their home had finished before the others. Truth be told, she wasn't exactly sure if the house was already fully repaired – there still seemed to be workers around. But when she looked at it, it looked fixed to her. Besides, she was sure that the workers would fix it up just like before, if they hadn't already.

The man peered at her suspiciously, as if not wanting to believe her response. Nira'lia smiled at him sheepishly. In the end, he decided to conclude the deal anyway. Unbeknownst to Nira'lia, this man didn't exactly trust her, but he knew her mother, and knew that the elderly Konti would not dupe him.

The Konti watched as the man turned around and seemed to rummage around some things. She could hear the sound of coins clinking together. After several minutes, the man turned around and handed her a pouch of Mizas. Nira'lia took it from him gratefully. She had never held so much money before!

"Thank you!" she said cheerfully, before placing the pouch inside her bag.

He waved her away. Still smiling, the Konti made her way out of the office. She was ecstatic, for if she had not been able to conclude the deal, she wouldn't have had enough money for her journey. They had agreed that Nira'lia could take the money for herself. Since the rest of Nira'lia's family was finally leaving the city at the same time as her to go to Mura, they no longer needed it.

Last Minute Preparations [Solo]

Before heading home, Nira'lia remembered another thing she wanted to attend to. She recalled a new friend who was a student at a University, and how he introduced her to drawing. This person, Lyam, had shown her a book where he placed notes and sketches of his knowledge. The concept was of great interest to Nira'lia.

She walked towards the direction of Zeltiva's seneral store, which was not too far away from where she was now. Nira'lia's stomach grumbled as she walked. The bag of coins weighed heavily in her pocket, and she found it ironic that no matter how much money she currently had, she still couldn't buy food to keep herself from the hunger. 'I hope the famine is over soon...'

When she arrived at the general store, she looked around quickly. There weren't a lot of people, and the containers which usually held staple food were all empty. Halabik Clarke, the person who tended to the store, was speaking to a customer and couldn't attend to her. It didn't matter because the items Nira'lia were looking for weren't too difficult to find.

Nira'lia walked to the display cases. She had been there before, and she saw where the University students got their school supplies. Among the supplies were vials of ink, quills, sheets of parchment and paper, and blank books.

Reaching up, Nira'lia took an empty book, a quill, and a vial. She looked at their prices and amounted it to four golden and five copper mizas. Happily, she scooted through the bag of coins and went over to Halabik Clarke. He was already done with the previous customer, and looked at the items that Nira'lia was purchasing.

Nira'lia gave him five golden mizas and waited for her change. Once he gave it to her, she thanked him enthusiastically and made her way out of the store.
