Season of Spring, Day 60, 512 A.V. Derailey could see what the Djed storms had done to the Endrykas people. Everyone was having to flee to the safety of the Riverfall border. The Drykas were a strong people who should never have to run...from anything, this was something Derailey had been taught all her life, and seeing what was happening now, she could never have been prepared for it. What happened to the bravery? What happened to everything she knew her people to be? Were they really this weak? Were they nothing but common human pities now rolling in their own self worry, fear of danger they couldn't easily fight off? Seeing this...Derailey couldn't help but feel a little violent. She knew everyone was recovering, but where was the warrior spirit that lay within all of them? She couldn't feel it anymore. She couldn't see the air around them eminate their wild souls. Moving off of the tree she had been leaning on, she stepped forward, appraoching the men and women she had been watching scuttle around like little hopeless children. She grabbed a wooden stake off of the rack to her right, next to all of the weapons and armor used for training. This was all she needed though, and there were no second thoughts as she approached the center of the field. No one even noticed her. They were too concentrated on their worries. Derailey couldn't have that. There was a time for everything, worry, greeving, happiness, and then there was a time for battle. Which was now. The world that they had been forced to enter, brought upon them by a storm and a god. And if the god shall have it, Derailey will meet his challenge. She will not let her people's spirits fall under his control. That's what he wanted. He wanted them to fear and worry and feel weak. Derailey would never give Ivak that satisfaction. She was now at the center of the clearing, one or two eyes strayed to her, but only for short moments. She stood there, turning her head to gaze upon these people with a dissapointed, angry, and determined expression. Gripping her stake tighter, she took a breath. If they were not willing, maybe they needed a little encouragement. She swung her staff as hard as she could, hitting the metal shield next to her, creating a painfully loud bang. Silence overcame her surroundings, and all attention was on her. Good. Now, to make some progress. She met as many eyes as she could. "What's wrong with you people?" She said, loud enough for them to hear. "Why do you look so defeated!?" Her rigid body language portrayed her anger with them. "What's wrong with you people? Where is the will that I have seen for so many years? Why do you all look as if you are dead?" It was quiet and still, she could tell they were hearing her, but did they understand? Some started to go back to what they were doing, but she wasn't going to have that. "Look at me!" She marched forward, charging the people up, pulling at the shirts and pushing roughly at their soldiers. They all still gave her the same blank stares. She stepped back, disbelieving of their reactionless states. She shook her head, "I'm ashamed. We are not warriors," she turned her head glaring at the ground. Their had to be something she could do to fire them up. She couldn't stand another day of seeing their great city so dead. She looked back into their eyes, "You are all cowards. What happened to the men and women that demanded the respect of others? Where is the power, the will that you have to live? Look at yourselves..." she paused, seeing the people look to eachother, "You make me sick. Is there no one who will step up to my challenge? She gritted her teeth. Was she really about to have to become the bad guy, just to get a reaction. She vaguely heard a woman's worry filled voice in the background, pleading quietly for the gods to help her. Liquid anger, burning hot, fire...everything went white. "Help yourselves!" She leaned forward and struck a man with her fist as hard as she could, knocking him to the ground. She looked up at her, blood trickling down his skin. Adrenaline entered her bloodstream. "Yeah...how does that make you feel. You angry?" She stepped forward, shoving another man, and then a woman to her right, others began to step back. "Fight me," She met all eyes again, "I want to see someone step up now. If I don't I'll fight every last one of you. If this is the only way to knock some sense back into you people, so be it. If you will not come to me, I will bring it to you. I will show you, what it means to be a Drykas!" This is what it had come to. |
