Hey, they can make it from fermenting fish poop for all I know. It might explain the taste.

Seriously, I'm gonna build a moonshine still in my backyard...

[Zeltiva] The Common Room

The Time Has Come

Finally, I can explain to you what we are doing with the University, but first off, let me share some of our aims with you, so that some of our decisions will make sense:

- We want a fun and engaging system, that is flexible and open and not constrained by a rigid system.
- We want a roleplaying environment that allows players to be students or teachers, create interesting classes, studies, and assignment, and perhaps innovative new thoughts and ideas.
- We don't want it to be an opportunity for freeloading and living expense dodging, providing an "easy fix" for accommodation in the city.
- We want it to fit in with Mizahar's existing skill system, not bending the rules to suit the University's purposes.
- Lastly, we want to realign the focus back to what the University should be about, and move the focus away from magic. That's not to say magic is off the agenda, but for proper application and practical study, there are other places you could - and should - go. Sahova is the centre for magical study, NOT Zeltiva.

When I get back from work tomorrow I'll be posting up the new Student Registry. This will be a streamlined application process to become a student for Summer, and unlike the old thread, won't require IC roleplay and mod responses. Those waiting in the old Registrar's thread will be able to reregister in the new thread.

One of the biggest changes will be Seasonal XP. Please hold your breath and hear me out. We never wanted to break promises. None of us did. But we've had some gentle nudges, and now we see that giving seasonal xp to students doesn't really work with the skill system we've got going in Mizahar. As a result, we won't be awarding seasonal XP to those with requests waiting in the Requests thread. In future, students will receive certificates at the end of their course to show they have a level of aptitude in their chosen field of study. HOWEVER - we know that we told you you would get seasonal XP, so we still want to give you something in return. All those waiting on requests will be PM'd in due course, and given a token which entitles them to a full season of tuition for free, so that they can study and have accommodation this season at no extra cost. We'll also be sorting out the Certificate system in due course.

The price of studying at the University will also be going up to a 60 Gold Miza base rate, which covers living expenses, accommodation, and tuition in one "field of study". The way this will work is that a list of areas of study will be issued in a new Student's Guide thread. These will be broad e.g anthropology, or history, and will link to an NPC (or player) professor. Students will then add an additional 30 Gold Mizas to the base rate for each additional field of study they may wish to partake in. Class threads will be more engaging because we will hopefully have more player teachers who can run class threads (we already have Rayage and Hadrian lined up for you!), and you will be much freer to explore the ideas you might want to.

We hope this sounds okay so far. This is just the tip of the iceberg, but I will have the Registry and new Student's Guide up tomorrow, and those will explain everything in detail. Please refrain from spamming me with questions until you read those. And then, Summer term begins :)

Please be aware: Zeltiva's side of the Sylira Epic Quest is now available for signups here. Please make sure you understand the quest before signing up to it, your character will be tied up for a season or more, will be travelling to Sahova, and anything could happen to them!

Please can all students who had applications for studying this season locked out when we started changing the system reapply via this thread.

Those who put in Seasonal XP requests for classes last term will no longer acquire Seasonal XP, but are entitled to entirely free tuition this season. Please simply put 0 Mizas as Total Cost if you choose to take up this offer, and follow the rest of the template as normal. You do not require a discount code for this process.

Thank you. (Please feel free to ask questions here, rather than PMing me, so other people can see the answers. The new Student's Guide will be up within the next hour.)

I have a question

Paragon wrote:- Magical Studies (With focus on the theoretical side of magic. Students wishing to learn practical magical in depth should consider studying in Sahova.)

I don't really understand what that means. Can you give a more detailed explanation? Including such things as what can and cannot be learned, how a "theoretical" class should be structured, and what a student should expect from it?

An example would be Rayage's alchemy classes. I'm not sure what the difference is between "theoretical" alchemy and "practical" alchemy.
