[Zeltiva] The Common Room

For some more clarification, let me say what my first thoughts are on what I would guess is the difference between theoretical and practical, and you can let me know if I'm anywhere close to looking at it the right way.

A discipline like Auristics:
I'd guess the theoretical side is things like learning what Auristics can tell, principles of auras, and textbook explanations of how to distinguish one aura from another (such as explaining how one aura would appear a certain color, another a different color, or how one might feel like pinpricks on your skin, another might feel cold). But, it would presumably NOT involve actually reading auras in class, just explanations of how to interpret them if you were reading them.

A discipline like Glyphing:
I'd think this would involve studying the drawn forms of the Glyphs, the principles behind which glyphs do what, and practicing writing them. But that it would NOT involve applying the glyphs you learn to any actual magic, just learning what effects they would have if you someday do so.

[Zeltiva] The Common Room

The point is (and the main point of the new Uni system) that it isn't as complex as it sounds.

If Rayage is your teacher, he can teach you anything he likes, HOWEVER, in general the focus on practical magic within the Uni has been lessened since it was overshadowing other domains. Theoretical would simply be reading about the skill, learning about its use, and applying it on a basic level. Those who are at Competent in a magical skill are unlikely to progress much further in Zeltiva University. NPCs and the general vibe will follow this suite, but player professors are free to teach what they like :)

Practically, you can still learn magic, but the point is we're trying to reduce the FOCUS on it. Magic is not the be all and end all of Zeltiva University. Last season Zeltiva was becoming the go-to place for all mages gamewide, and that SHOULDN'T have been the case, when Sahova is tragically dead (it's supposed to be where you learn lots of magic!).

Ahh okay. So, The University is still a good place for learning to use Novice level magics (so in my case I'm learning Auristics, Glyphing, and Alchemy from scratch and can do those there).

But my Animation and Magecraft, for example, are already Competent, and there isn't much else for the Uni to teach me without going to someplace like Sahova to get a REAL expert to teach me more.

Actually can I chime in here for a minute?

Sahova isnt TO LEARN magic. In fact it says so right in all the information you are supposed to read before going there.

Cool Sahova Stuff

Why people go to Sahova
Many people see Sahova as a place where they can get favors from the undead so they can learn magic. Nobody could have ever been more wrong. Sahova is not a school of magic! We don't give out free lessons. You may head over to the University of Zeltiva, if that's your purpose in mind.

Sahova focuses on magical research and accepts pulsers who are willing to work under the wizards' impositions. Any tutoring happens because there's something in it for the masters.

Sahova has a lively trade with other cities as the Nuit wizards have a constant need for magical reagents and body replacements. Merchants transact their business at the Docks with golems.

Sahova is for MAGICAL RESEARCH and to expand upon magical skills. I would not be a novice in a magical skill and go there XD If you go to Sahova to learn magic you will be practically laughed at. Sure, you might be assigned a master, but you will be helping him with his experiments and any learning you get from that might be purely accidental (especially if you are not a nuit).

You are basically a research slave there until you learn how to climb the ladder.

Next to that, you must understand that to stay in Sahova means that you have volunteered (or have been volunteered, coerced, etc.) to constantly develop and research the many ways of conquering the world in the name of the empire of Alahea.

---

As it had been mentioned earlier, Sahovan mages are given free use of common laboratories and workshops. Most items needed in performing duties and responsibilities are available for free in the Synchrograph Office. Unless you're still a pulser, you most likely would not even have any seasonal living expenses. And if you are a pulser, your living expenses each season should not be above the cost of a poor lifestyle.

It's a cool place to be, huh? Not!

In order to balance all these perks, Sahovan residents do not receive seasonal wages. While they may be rewarded gold or items within a thread, there is no money bonus every season. Instead, a merit system allows players to enjoy the fruits of their labor.

Gah!

I just want to point this all out because SAHOVA IS NOT A SCHOOL OF MAGIC. It is a place of magical research bent on taking over the world.
“Method is more important than strength, when you wish to control your enemies. By dropping golden beads near a snake, a crow once managed to have a passer-by kill the snake for the beads.” ~ Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

@Minerva: Bingo!

@Rayage: I'm using Sahova as an example, but in actual fact there is stuff everywhere, magic is dispersed. If you want to learn Glyphing and Webbing go to Endrykas. If you want to learn Animation or Alchemy, for example, go to Sahova, and so forth, so forth. I'll keep drilling the point home - ZELTIVA IS NOT THE HUB OF MAGIC LEARNING. That's all I really want to try and get across. I'm not kicking magic students out of Zeltiva.

I just want to note that mages be at ease. The university will remain a SAFE place to practice all of your skills, even magic. That is all I have to add o.o

:(

I maintain Zeltiva is always safe. Your sudden drop in health must be due to your lack of proper nutrients.

This PC has the Blight gnosis. As such, you as a player need to be aware of what that consists of. Wrenmae has an invisible aura that amplifies sickness and disease. Wounds may become infected, small sneezes may become coughing, and a slight fever may become more serious. A nuit's body will also break down faster in the presence of the Blight. These effects may not be immediate, but within the few days following your encounter, the symptoms will manifest. Some sooner than others. I cannot control your character, so creativity will be left up to you. Best wishes and stay healthy!
