The "Sky" is the Limit! [Hello]

Greetings and Salutations Mizahar!

For about two weeks now I've been sifting through page after page of lore and information concerning this incredible forum. I was impressed and greatly intimidated by the vast expanse of creativity found here on Mizahar. So much so that I almost decided not to embark on any adventures here. Almost. For the past twelve years I have considered myself a role-player and I have a firm belief that I still have so much to learn and improve upon in terms of my skills. I've explored the vast majority of role-play spheres out there.

-Dungeons and Dragons
-Vampire: The Masquerade
-Live Action Role-Play
-Forums
-MMO Role-Play
-IM Role-Play

You name it, I've more than likely tried it at least once. However, I've recently found that I am in need of a breath of fresh air. I think I've found that in Mizahar. While I am still trying to make sense of all the history, culture, geography, and magic in this astounding world at the same time I am giddy with anticipation. Suffice it to say, I am happy with my decision to join this remarkable community and hope that with time I can add to this glittering diamond in the rough.

Sincerely,
Aoren

Welcome to Mizahar Aoren! I'm glad you like what you see here, and that you're such an experienced roleplayer! It's a bit of an undertaking to learn all of the lore here at Miz (I've been here a year and I'm still in the process), but if you've learned about things like D&D and V:TM, you'll have no problems here at all!

If you need any help at all, please don't hesitate to ask. Helping new players get started is a little hobby of mine, and one of the most efficient and productive ways to procrastinate on my owed posts. *ahem*

Have you had a look at the races? What kind of character do you think you'll be making? Any ideas yet? :D

The "Sky" is the Limit! [Hello]

Hello there Laszlo!

Thank you for your kind greetings, in answer to your questions:

I have always found that the best and most informative resource for information on a new world is by learning about the people who populate it. I've spent a great deal of time reading through the race list. I am very fond of the Drykas and quite simply normal Humans.

I am most closely interested in developing a wizard. I don't often delve into magic but the way it works in Mizahar fascinates me. After reading through the psychology, the different disciplines, world magic, personal magic and gnosis and whatnot it has been a little confusing. Right now the most difficult question to answer for me is: where did my character learn his craft and what -is- his craft?

I am contemplating pursuing a character who specializes in Reimancy and Glyphing. At the moment I am at a loss as to how to come up with a proper background as to how he learned these arts and landed in Syliras, which is where I want to start.

Any suggestions?

A good place to start, if you want to play a Drykas mage, is to read the lore pages for both the Drykas (the subrace) and Endrykas (their migrating city). There are different Clans within the Drykas, and one I believe specializes in magic. Understanding the culture can give you an idea as to how and why he learned the magic (was he a member of the clan or did he develop a personal interest in magic?), what his childhood was like (how many wives did his father have? How many siblings? Who was the Ankal of his Pavilion?), and for what reasons he might have left his family and culture to live in Syliras (is he still young, or is he an adult? Did he ever bond to a Cyphrus Strider [and thus earn the title of Drykas]?).

Answering these questions can help give you a good place to start on his background.

Don't forget to read about Syliras too! I think there are certain opinions of magic within the Fortress City of Peace that you might want to be aware of.

Great name, by the way!

I've read about the Fortress City's opinions on Reimancy. It has not dissuaded me though. I am bouncing back and forth between the secondary discipline he would have. The three that strike me the most are Glyphing, Animation and Shielding. I'm currently reading through the Character Sheet FAQ for answers to some questions I've had.

I did read about the Sapphire Clan of the Drykas and I can only imagine what growing up among the horseclans is like. So many questions! But that is the exciting part is it not?

I suppose my greatest challenge will be working with all the coding to create a proper character sheet. Though I do see the templates available. That will help.

Thank you for the compliment on the name!

The templates are a great place to start. Using the BBCode guide provided at the top of the page via "Features" link will also help you fancify your CS and make it aesthetically pleasing. As long as a CS contains all the necessary info, you can format it however you like.

You can go for a more compact look, like Eoteb, or you can give the CS a longer layout like Kavala. Both great PCs, both with beautiful character sheets.

It doesn't have to look ornate at all either. The biography and physical descriptions are both totally optional for example. But if you want it, you do have the freedom to express yourself (or not!).

Wow, those are two impressive character sheets. I'm going to go do a bit of reading. Thank you for your help! If I have more questions in the near future would you mind at all if I approached you with them? That is, if I can't find the answers already provided in the forums.

Sure! Go for it. :) Chat is also full of people who usually love to help as well! Storytellers are also happy to help too, especially ones relevant to the areas you'd like to roleplay in. Syliras has a lot of great AS's and an awesome DS who can field most of your Syliras-questions. The Q&A forums are also a good place to post if you aren't sure about something!

Hey Aoren! I just wanted to give you a belated but warm welcome. I encourage you to become a Drykas as well! They are such a unique and wonderful race! However my opinion is biased; because my own PC is Drykas afterall.

Anyways I hope you enjoy your time here at Mizahar and all the great things is holds! Like Lazlo said, stop by the Chat anytime and I'm sure between rambunctious chatter someone will be happy to help you with anything ^_^!.
