Road to power

He found himself sitting on the docks of Sahova. A part of him had to wonder if he enjoyed the sea or was it more along the idea of him wanting to run away? He had already ran away long ago but was he wanting to do it again?

He had no idea. That idea seemed so odd to him since he had a home in the island. A room, all the books he could read and even had magical research going on. Yet was it enough for him? What was the reason he stayed? What was the core reason for his passions? What made him not run away and see the world?

He wanted power. Yet what did that word mean? He knew it meant able to do something along with the synonyms were along the lines of might, force and even authority. Authority, could that be what he wanted? In the end it would mean he had all the power if he could handle it.

The power over Sahova. That idea came to him like a wave crashing into rocks. If anyone knew that idea then he would be killed for nothing could change Sahova for it was a timeless island. How could he even go about that?

He had to have power. More power than his little mind could even start to grasp. He had to have the type of power that could make cities run with a wave of his hand. He thought hard on that simple childish day dream. Could it be done? What would be the price? Could he pay it in the end? Would he even be able to look at himself in his reflection?

The ideas and thoughts filled his mind as he let his Djed pool to the surface along his eyes. The world shifting and weaving as his eyes were able to understand the world as the auras of the djed were awoken around him. It was getting easier and easier for him to see the world on how it was meant to be.

How could he have been so blind for so long? He hated not seeing the world in its real essence as he saw the djed of the water, the docks and even in his hands as he looked upon them. Each time he pulled his magic to the surface of his mind he felt like he could hold on to it for longer and longer each time. It gave him power. Power he had lacked when he was just a simple boy so long ago. Yet how far could this power go?

It was such a simple question or at least he thought so as he cleared him mind. Mediation was also getting faster for him. He was turning into a different person over time but he knew it was something everyone did. Maybe this was just him growing up? He was not sure as he focused a single thought. Emptiness. Void of all life, sound and color. A black hole in space and time as he focused his djed into a single space. It did not take long before a small hole ripped into the air. It was the size of his fist, just above the surface of the water. With each wave going near it the water just faded away as the portal pulled it inside.

Normally he would just form the portal then let it close yet this time he kept focus upon it feeding it slowly with his djed. He had to understand it. Had to understand how it worked, how long it would handle.

He felt his energy draining as he kept adding fuel to the fire but he could not hold on any longer as he pulled the flow of Djed back into him. The portal did not stay stable as it closed in on itself with no more fuel but he got the results he needed. It gave him a reason.

He would keep trying. He would try to find a way to open a larger portal and keep it stable. One day he would make cities bow before him. He would find a way to hold Sahova in his hand but he knew he was a Sahovan mage and the island had so many more along with so many older Nuits who had such a long time to have plans in place for power.

So much work he would have to do in order to prove himself. He had to start. He had to start and not to look back but would this path take him to his dreams or his nightmares?

Road to power

Spring, 1, 413 AV -Midday-

Ten simple small wood blocks were laid out along his desk. Normally while in his lab he would have done work on Malediction however he was going to spend a while working on trying to make wood statues to improve his carving skills. If he could get his carving skills improved enough then he would try to sell the statues off the island to boost his profits for research that he would not need to tell the island about.

While he did carving in his malediction research he wanted to improve outside of it. If he could design better then maybe his craft would be better in the long run. He could design statues with malediction products either in them. It was a idea he wanted to try so he was trying to push his skills.

His small hands took a block, placing it in front of him along with paper with ink and quill. First he was going to draw up a few ideas. He was far from a master in that area but he would try his best. He was not sure what he would try to design.

The lines were slowly coming into view as Vick slowly traced along the paper. It was a basic two lines going up and down with a small box at the base. In his eyes it looked like a sword. On paper however it looked like random scribbles. For the first time in many years he just let his eye blink at the paper. He knew he was bad at drawing but he forgot just how bad when it came to things other than circles and letters.

He wanted to yell at the paper but he knew the fault was with his skill at drawing and not the papers fault. Maybe he could order a golem to draw for him he thought as he went back to trying to draw a sword.

They were just lines on the paper yet they failed in almost every sense of the word. The lines were just out of place. This time they were almost like a large triangle with a box at the bottom. This was fifth try at drawing up a sword yet for some reason he just could not grasp it or at least his undead hands could not.

Maybe he just was bad at it since it had been such a long time since he had seen a sword. Over one hundred years really and when he did see it he never got a good look at it. Maybe that is why he was failing so bad with this idea of his.

He was use to seeing other nuits, circles, shapes and random objects in his day to day life now. Not weapons out of steel but out of the mind. He had to stop and ponder about that deep down. He had not seen any real weapons in such a long time. Maybe they were using something different by now. So he had to draw what he knew and that was put simply that was shapes. A small circle was made within the paper and by almost without trying it was perfect. He had made so many in his bones that he could do it with his eyes closed.

Another Circle. Then another inside that and another. This was something he was good at. So he knew what he had to do. He would have to carve one of the wooden blocks into a perfect sphere. The designs of the paper started with bad lines of a idea of a weapon but now he knew they were turning out to be a basic shape.

A new sheet was placed in front of him with the new idea. A circle was done in the center then shaded in with the ink. as he did his best to give it depth and a shadow. Not the best work in history but he knew it so that is what counted for him.

Next on his to do list was to take a block and shape it into a ball. It sounded simple but he knew it had to be a perfect ball. Normally when he dealt with craving it was just on a surface with circles and crude letters but now he was going to try to transform something into art.

He took his chisel and started pushing it along the wood sending shards of wood over his desk. However it did not take Vick long to see that it was not the right tool as he put it down before getting a curved gouger. This tool he never touched really would shape the wood more into a sphere or at least that was the goal since the curved edge would form the wood in that sense.

The work was long and harder than just bone work but with the simple gouger he felt like he was making more steps towards the goal. Shards of wood still lined his desk and more added up yet he slowly but surely was forming the start of a project.

However after what felt like forever Vick found his mistakes as the ball inside his head was not the type in his hand. It was more like half a sphere but he knew where he made the mistakes. He should have inked and cut into the block where the round edge should have gone and focused on that then just try to base it off in his head.

Yet he did hard on the work, he used the different tools and did a good amount of drawings on the idea. Yet he was still learning without a Master and that he knew would make it longer then normal. Yet he would try again later as he placed the broken item and the wood scraps in a pile along the floor.

His mind was clearing as he stood back, his djed forming in the center of the mess as the sense of a blank emptiness overcame him as the spark to the void flared ripping a hole in the space. His djed flowing into the small portal and soon it became the size of his hand. He held onto it as the wood was sent to the dark depths of the void and as soon as it was all gone he had ceased his mind onto the portal.

It was the best way to clean up without going to a golem and burning the wood. Quick and clean but he had other tasks he had to take care of now. He would get back to his craving projects later but he still had to test out his malediction skills.

Road to power

Postby Vick on September 13th, 2012, 1:41 am

Spring, 1, 413 AV -Late day-

Vick was given a bone that made him rather happy. However that is how he found himself in the library reading over a book so he could understand the bone more for the bone itself was a dog bone. He almost wanted to say they threw him a bone but he kept that to himself as he started researching more about dogs overall.

Mizahar had roughly 23 breeds of dog or at least mainstream forms of dogs. He would read then write information he saw of use into a small notebook he used for notes. Normally a person would have been annoyed by getting dog bones but he on the other hand knew just what could be done for the breed of dog he was told was called “Trubliss” which was a small to medium sized dog yet was in the cheap range.

Dog Breed Location Traits Malediction use
Akinva Deerstalker Kalea, Cyphrus, Sylira Great Hunters. Tends to be a short well built muscle dog. Bring out the hunting trait. Or try to bring out power of the body to enhance the user.
Bozderon Shadow Dog Everywhere Can see in the dark and blends in shadows. Black breed with red eyes. Short hair medium build. Let the user see in the dark or let the body melt into shadows. Or even try to force the eye color to become red.
Chevos Jungle Dog Taloba Humidity and Heat Resistant. Just to use to traits to make the user more resistant to heat. With luck this could work for immunity of heat all together.
Dynakuva Painted Desert Dog Eyktol & Cyphrus Great hearing Boost the hearing of the user.
Falivan Elk Dog Everywhere Hunters Same as normal hunting breeds. Just to boost hunting skill in a person. This can range from moving, tracking, smelling or hearing.
Helevaos Shepard Cyphrus, Eyktol, Syliras Said to be the best herders ...Give that trait in someone? Herding could deal with leadership therefore boosting the user in the eyes of people.
Imperial Watcher Kalea, Taldera, Parts of Cyphrus Guard dogs Would not use. Made by the Suvan Empire.
Ivaski Mura High Degree of Intelligence - Telepathy with some individuals Boost the intelligence of a person or harness the trait of the telepath powers and market that.
Jivatalus Ghost Dog Everywhere Sense ghosts Since the world (and Sahova) is filled with ghosts this dog could be used to sense hidden ghosts or past locations of ghosts.
Kalean Spicecoat Kalea & Northern Taldera Handles cold well Same as Chevos but for cold weather
Kiparon Everywhere Family dog type. Keeps children safe That gives me a idea.
Luvanor Grassland Hunter Cyphrus & Northern Taldera Fast hunting dogs Boost the speed of the user.
Manitora Taldera Shed dogs, handles cold well Immune to cold uses
Ovatalis Terrier Everywhere Just a pet dog that is loveable Make people fall in love with the user of the item.
Pastavik Water Dog Everywhere Coats are almost immune to water Ehance the effect for a person or item?
Quarni Wolfhound Everywhere Fights off wolves Give the user coruage
Rivali Lapdog Everywhere Super lazy to point does not walk Cruse item. Make a person not want to move or do anything to the point of death.
Silkena Cyphrus, Eyktol, Syliras, & Taldera Fast hunting dog Boost speed and hunting of person.
Sykanis Everywhere High in energy and loves to kill small animals like rats Boost Djed?
Trubliss Syliras & Kalea protective of children Another idea.
Wolf Everywhere Dangerous Predators Wait someone keeps theses as pets?
Zypherian Sled Dog Taldera highly intelligent Boost intelligent

He then started taking notes and reading up on the anatomy of the dogs but found they were pretty much all the same. He started drawing the diagrams from the book into his notebook even if they were very crude.

Image

The skull inside his book was more like a circle with teeth on it, then a line down for the spine. The legs were also more lines off the spine. The rib cage itself was crudely drawn as curved lines before ending the tail in a curve. Once he was done drawing it he then started making labels for each part of the body.

Hours had passed since he started reading but he found himself done. At least done with the research for just a simple task just so he knew what to do with simple bones.

Road to power

Postby Vick on September 13th, 2012, 5:21 am

Spring,2, 413 AV

Vick had spent all night researching about dogs. A subject he never knew he would give much thought into however he found it helped him with his path just like his research into rabbits.

He had already cleaned the spine of the subject, it was upon his working station laid out to be nine inches long. He had already knew what he was going to do with it, while it was just a dog and did not hold powerful djed like a monster or being that could use magic it still had traits he could use.

The key trait was keeping children safe. Vick always used a body of a child and therefore would make the user have a basic instinct need to keep him safe. As long as it did not backfire on him. It was the goal and the spine had more than enough room along it for him to design the circles and place his intent.

His tools were sharpened yet before he went onto the bones he first was going to do something that he did not do before. First he was going to drill a small hole inside the end bones then cord a chain to form a lock of sorts. He would use the spine as a necklace and give a bit more room with the cord. Yet before that he was going to take a simple block and work on the designs by drawing then craving on the block before working on the bones. It would take a bit more time but the hard work would pay off down the road.

The drill was set up and slowly Vick worked it drilling a hole in the end of the spine. He had to work slow due to cracking the bone but if he did crack it he knew how to fix it or get around it. Yet it was not often he would crack the objects since bone was easier to work with than wood. Once the hole was formed he would do the same to the other end then wash the spine once more to remove the dust.

Once that step was done he placed his drill down. The cord was already made by someone else and he would just tie it around and let that hold as a necklace for the spine. So he did not need to worry about that but what he had to focus on now was the designs on the wood blocks before he made them on the bone itself.

The wood was simple enough to use as he took his quill and drew the circles around the surface. Draw first then he drew the word in the ancient language “Child”. Then another circle with another word “Keep”. Before writing the last circle and word “Safe.”

This was the fastest part he knew as he took his pick and slowly tracing the designs on the wood. The carving did not take long as he just had to make the indents, just past the surface. He found this out the hard way over time he did not have to make the indents deep just enough to stand out and last. The pick cut into the wood and his hands moved along the lines. It was faster and easier going about a traced outline then making it from the ground up he found.

Once the wood was done he placed it down before picking up his quill and ink once more. This time he would work on the bone. The same events took place from the wood, a circle then the word “Child”. The next bone of the spine had the word “Keep” within the circle and third was “safe” with each writing and drawing of the circle even with his quill he forced his thoughts and intent into the meaning of the word. Keep anyone looking like a child safe.

With his djed rushing to the surface he saw the aura of the bone and how his marks laid upon the white bone. He just had to carve the words into the bone then use his own blood as the light to fuel the magic that he was working on.

He kept the aura in his eyes as he took his pick and started carving the drawings into the bone. His hands moved slow as the bone slowly made the indents. Just had to make it stand out he knew now as he worked on the circles first before working on the words.

His work took him into good part of the day but he paid that no mind like normal. The words were done at last but he still had two more bones along the spine to work with. Normally he would leave that be but this time he had a better idea. He was not going to sell this. He was going to make this his masterwork to date.

The next bone he took the ink to and wrote his own name in the ancient language. The next word in the circle was “Protect” With his highest form of resolve as he cleared his head. Protect Vick at all cost. The craving did not take long as he worked on it with his sharpen pick yet even after finishing that he was not done still.

No he could do more. The circles, he made more along the outside and within them smaller words. “Keep Vick from harm” Was made along the bones in the smaller circles and even then he made more circles around them to force as much djed out as he could of the bones. This was to be his prize. His masterpiece to date.

He was done. At long last when the sun had fell for another day he was done. He just had to use his own blood to spark that life then find a tester. Yet even then that tester would just remove it once he knew it worked then he would keep the item safe inside his room away from the elements and danger.

With a single cut he placed his life along the circles, he focused his mind to push djed out of his finger letting it mix and turn with the bones setting them to life. He knew it was done for he saw the added power, the once sleeping djed inside the bones roared to life with meaning and power.
He was done. He would find someone to test it then keep them. If they failed he would still keep to find a way to fix them.

It's Not What You Think...

Excelent thread! And for all your hard work I rewarded you with an extra point in research! That is more what I was talking about, but in future threads lets try and put more description about Vick's thought process as he researches. I want to be able to see the lines of his logic in my mind as I read! Other than that excellent :)

The item created had the intended effects, however, there are a few oddities. Those who wear the item feel a need to see after the well being of Vick, but the effects are especially powerful over the weaker minded races. Kelvics are the best choice. Canine Kelvics who wear the item will have a nearly insatiable need to protect Vick, almost to the point of utter exhaustion and death. The effects grow weaker with the higher life forms, becoming nearly non-existent on Jamoura and does not work on Nuits. An additional side effect of wearing the necklace is that it slowly saps the strength of the wearer. After a day the wearer will be easily winded, after three he/she will require extended periods of rest before further activities, and if the item is worn for more than a week it is possible to die from pure exhaustion. These effects are slower for Jamoura and those of higher intelligence, but those of the Kelvic race, especially canines, feel the full force of these effects. This item has no value but to Vick himself, so no profit can be made off of it.

Hope you enjoy your new item XD. Keep the threads coming :P
