APPEARANCE
Nadeshiko has a well-toned body, but she carries it slouched, pulling an unwomanly gait. She has this certain dissatisfied look, jaws often twitching, punctuated with a scowl on her face. Occasionally, a bite on her lips or tongue clicking. Her eyes are wide and angled, bearing small fierce onyx gems that are mean and intimidating. Meanwhile her brows are bushy arcs on her face, suggesting a volatile temper.
Her fighting stance displays great discipline of her body. Nadeshiko is well known for being a stoic fighter. She bides her time and moves in for the kill. Her strength is hinted by her tightly packed muscles. Nadeshiko takes pride in dealing blows that could knock the air out of a person's lungs. "I could run against a wall and the wall would crack," she often brags.
She wears her long hair loosely braided, and observers often describe her movements like that of a bird of prey, the jet black hair spreading out like a glorious wing, her knuckles thrown together in a mean blast.
TRAITS
Nadeshiko is a no-nonsense person to a fault. "Talk to the hand," she would say, and by hand she meant her fist. She is brazen, bold, and brash. As typical of a hot-blooded person, she acts ahead of thinking. Nadeshiko works on gut instinct, trusting her senses to guide her all the way.
Having grown up in a fully male household, she bears no lady-like attitude. The city where more bones are broken than hearts taught her that strength of a true woman does not lie in seductive lingerie. Power is tangible. It is an obsession, the thrill of having the upper hand. She never loses an argument, and only walks away from it.
Nadeshiko was taught to use her womanity as a weapon, not as a thing to please herself with. She lets her men ride her, but only the way she wants them to. "I've broken more hearts than bones," she would chide suitors. Which said a lot about her loose morals and often discouraged men who had no wish to be emasculated. She would not take a man whose ego needs stoking, as she has enough of it to live by.
BELIEFS
Nadeshiko has stayed in Nyka her entire life. She treats tales from outside Nyka as she would bedtime stories - they are fake if not exaggerated, and are only good to make her fall asleep. Her life is dedicated to all the corners of Nyka as she had sworn to fight and defend it to her death. She puts her faith into Uphis and his Priestess, theirs are the words that she will always take seriously. Nadeshiko absolutely distrusts outsiders, and are not beyond punishing them on account of suspicion.
As a monk of Uphis, Nadeshiko absolutely detests Myri and her Myrians, whoever and whatever they are.
FAMILY
Nadeshiko was born of an amalgam of her family's names.
- Her father, Nadeka. A zealous merchant and a religious follower of Laat (the Alvina, although the currency comes close second). He gave his seed to create Nadeshiko and does not regret doing so. Otherwise, he wouldn't have known his gender preference. Inspite of having a tender heart, Nadeka is a tall huge hulking hairy figure. "More Jamoura than man," Nadeshiko would describe him so. His only daughter gained nothing in appearances from him, a fact that they are both thankful for.
- Her father's lover, Shiro, is a follower of Rak'keli and a well-known medicine man - or woman - with particular expertise on "home brewed medicine". Though he claims there is nothing sexual about his relationship with Nadeka, both Konan and Nadeshiko believe otherwise. He is said to have been close friends with Nadeshiko's mother and had promised to be caretaker of the house. After Nadeka's wife's death, everybody is in the opinion that he took the promise a little too seriously.
- Her uncle, Konan, a smith for Uphis' monks. Konan is twin to Nadeshiko's mother, and for a while he had fooled the babe Nadeshiko into thinking that her mother was not dead and had only cut her hair. He is in good terms with Nadeka, but still believes that Nadeshiko should have a "real" mother, which always causes Shiro to question whether "Heredia" was "fake". It's a inside joke, you wouldn't get it.
- A certain Heredia, whose name was later removed (or Nadeshiko would have been Nadere) for being devoured by Nyka. Nadeka said that the woman had eloped with an outsider. Shiro maintains that Heredia is being held captive by Myrians. Konan claims that she committed suicide after catching her husband in bed with her bestfriend. Nadeshiko herself could come up with fancy tales how her mother died or disappeared, whichever sounds more interesting.

HEIRLOOM
The monks made her give up her earthly possessions. Apparently the Cold Iron Sword Breaker (worth 30 laat) that her mother "owned" is not an earthly possession. Nadeshiko keeps it in her room and calls it Heredia's Teeth.
It was created by Konan as a gift to Heredia for when his twin becomes a monk. Unfortunately, Heredia never completed her trials. Actually, she never started them.
