Summer 11 421 -Midnight-

Vick had seen the bones and blood but he had to spend a lot of time thinking how to use them just right. He could not crave them due to risk breaking them so that left him painting and drawing. Both of which his skills were not the best in any sense of the word yet that was why he in his lab with blank sheets of paper in front of him, ink, quills, paint brushes and paint.

He was going to focus and work on his skills before getting back to work on the magecrafting project. He would have roughly eight bells to himself and he would spend that time just doing this nonstop trying to improve. Afterwards if he felt like he could not do a good enough job than he would do it again until he felt his ego was on normal ground.

He was better at drawing than painting. It was just a simple fact in life as he took the quill and dipped it within the cold black ink. He let the tip of the quill touch the first sheet of the paper and with a slow motion he moved it up making a vertical line that was six inches long. At the top of that line he drew a horizontal line that was three inches long before making one more vertical line that was again six inches long so it matched up with the other line.

It was a simple long box looking object without a bottom but he was not done with it yet for the image inside his own mind told him so. He was working on one of the ears for his soon to be bear but he just dipped the quill into the ink and started drawing the lines a bit further apart.

One Vertical line that was again six inches long with a horizontal line which was three inches long before going down again for the six inches long matching the first drawing. It was slow work he had to admit. Not as slow as working with bones but still slow nevertheless since he was trying very hard to get it right.

With that done he had then took the tip of his quill along the first lower end of his half box and drew a large circle. The circle in question made the bottoms of the two boxes and met once more at the starting point. This was to act as the head of the bear for his creation.

Right below the “head” Vick drew another larger half circle letting the tops touch. The half circle was just that. It stopped midway from making a full circle but on the right side of that he took the end of the half circle and made a longer circle that was more of an angle towards the right.

Another drip of the quill and he made the same circle at the other side but more of the left. It was longer horizontally than the body and head which was the same as the other circle he had just made. One curved line at the bottom was made to link them together.

It was done. Vick knew as he saw but it did not turn out like the image in his head. The circles were off and still not perfect in his eyes. Yet it was done nonetheless as smiled for the first time. It was a bear. He could recall images of having such toy long ago and that is what he took into his head.

The boxes were ears, the first circle past them made the head. Than body and feet. He did not make a face with the quill or hands but it was fine to him as he let the ink dry before moving on.

Painting. It was a skill that kept trying to elude him as he went on with his day to day life. He never did give it much thought but he knew it was something he used for Malediction rarely. Yet even now he had to use it and hone the skill for he could do more with it than just Malediction. Maybe one day he could paint master works to sell but for now he was just learning it by hand. It might have been faster if he had a teacher but painting teachers in sahova was really just a bad joke.

He pushed open a book in his lap that talked a bit about painting and paint brushes. He had found this in one of the rooms that a pluser was using but Vick did not ask to use it. It was within his rights as a Nuit to use whatever he thought would help him.

He read the pages as he looked over his own set of brushes that were really the islands but he called them his own nonetheless. Eight main brushes lined the pages and his desk all going by a different name based off the top.

Round, Pointed Round, Flat, Bright, Fibert, Angular flat, Fan, and Detail round were the names of each one. The anatomy of a paint brush was rather basic. It had the bristles, the ferrule or soft metal holding the bristles, a clamp that held that onto basic wood rod.

The Round brush was a brush that had a more round tip at the end. Hence the name Vick read as it was good for sketching and outlining. This was the brush one would use first to make any type of outline but not a brush to paint everything with. The tip of the brush could fit to more fine details but other brushes could do the same as a better job.

The Pointed Round brush had a narrow tip at the end more so than the round but also more of a sharp tip. This was for fine details and lines in the paint brush family due to the pointed sharp tip.

The flat brush was just that. The tip was flat and was meant for wide strokes and filling in space. Vick just sighed to himself as he kept reading and pointing to the brushes. This was rather boring to read about in his eyes and things he already knew about from his time using them. He might not have been super skilled in the paint brush art but at least he knew how to use them somehow. He may have made a mistake on what brush to use but everyone did he would hope at one point or another.

He just closed the book and picked up the flat head brush. He would use that to paint his drawing as he dipped it into brown paint before touching along the paper. His strokes were not neat or even. He still did not hold that grace of a true painter as his undead hand flicked the brush along the paper inside the shapes. It was very rough and uneven as he filled in the blank space of the body with the brown paint. Parts of it had little paint yet others in the circle had more thick globs.

He was far from using paint as a tool for his craft that he prized so highly as he took the the brush once more filling in the legs of the bear with more brown. Just brown filled in circles lined the paper killing any sense of far neater circles he had made. The left leg had more paint than the right leg as that side was thinner one could easily tell with a glance of an eye.

He took the finer brush with blank paint and drew neat circles along the head for eyes. Circles was something he had down it would seem for all his years drawing them and carving them. Yet even with paint they seemed off in his eyes as he made the eyes for the bear and little nose which really was just a dab of paint.

The bear held no smile or lips for Vick felt sad of his creation. He was not proud to say the least. He just balled the paper up, the ink still fresh and wet, inside his hands as he threw it towards the door. Only one thing to do for this creation that would not touch the light of day.

His eyes were locked on the paper, his mind clearing faster than before. Nothing. Empty. Basic thoughts left his mind as he focused his djed from the depths of his inner soul. His Auristics flared to life without him even trying as he saw the djed on the paper and the area. He saw how his own magic from within him slowly forced the djed around the paper away like blowing on a table filled with bone dust.

Emptiness soon filled the area as sparks of darkness flared to life around it. Tiny little specks of darkness kept flaring around the paper like sparks of a fire coming to life. They just kept building more and more until a tiny little hole formed in the very air around the paper.

It was slow but it slowly grew at last in size until the paper of his flew into the void. Along the paper dust on the ground flew to the portal and that is when Vick had the idea to use his magic to clean up the bone dust and overall dust from his lab. Right now his portals held a very weak pull so he could easily handle it as he cut off the magic. Like putting the fire in a tight jar the portal left the plane as soon as he did.

Vick took a small brush and started to get to work. He flicked his hands around his table as piles soon formed from all the dust he had made over the years. Plusers at times would clean up the labs yet Vick did not let anyone in his lab to clean. It did show rather often as it had a thick fine layer of dust and cobwebs in areas. He never did breath often so it did not bother him that much as he kept cleaning his work table.

Cleaning could have been called low to most Nuits for magic did that to people. It made them think things were under them and really Vick could understand that but he also knew work like this could keep him in check on some level. Or at least that was the goal as the pile of dust and dirt fell to the ground before Vick moved on cleaning his lab.

It took him close to a bell before he had all the dust and dirt in a large pile but that was fine to him. He maybe had a few more bells to himself before he had to go back to magecrafting but he cleared his head once more as he tapped into that source of coldness and power called magic and Voiding.

He was getting better at calling it and using it. Soon he would hope he could do more with it as he tore open the very air in the dust and let the portal flare to life as he feed it with his own djed sending the remains of who knew what into the dark vastness. The portal was small but enough pull to suck up the remains where it would stay in the other plane.

Once the pile was gone Vick had cut the djed flow off with his mind as he laughed to himself. He was getting better at it and that made him very happy. He was far from what others could do with it but everyone had to start somewhere after all.

He still had a few more Bells to his name before he would be called back to work on the arrows. He had went into one of the public labs and got a handful of blank scrolls with ink and quills before taking them back to an empty lab.

He was not working in his lab for once as he opened one up on the table, the rest in a pile near him as he took the quill with black ink onto the surface and started his work. He was going to use his Glyphing to make magic scrolls. While he was just still a novice at the craft he could still make magical scrolls. He just could not sell them that well due to they were going to be unstable until he had more skill in drawing them but this was the perfect chance to really improve both his art skills and magical.

Glyphing was a skill of making sigils along a object and infusing it with magic. Yet making the sigils took skill of drawing them and knowing about them. The magic bit could have been anything as it could help stable magic and store magic.

Vick was going to be storing his own magic of Voiding into them. He did not have to use the scrolls afterwards but he could watch golems use them or plusers and see what would happen. Odds are they would either not work or just blow up in the face of the user. Either way it would have been fun for Vick as he started drawing the sigils down on his first scroll.

Glyphing was a art Vick picked up many years ago but never took much into it. Yet he had to really force himself to learn and practice due to the many useful things he could get out of it as he slowly made the focus point of the scroll.

The focus was a large sigil in the center of most scrolls. It would fade away once Vick empowered it with either his magic or another magical object and would show up once the scroll was to be used. The sigil was really anything as all the sigils were different to each mage. It what made the magic so useful to most.

His sigil for the focus point was a star. Simple with five points and within that star was another symbol of a V which was Vicks trademark or would be his trademark if asked about it. The star drawing was just five points with lines. Top point, right, left, bottom right and bottom left. Within the lines was the V with slight curve to the tips of the top.

On the outside of that focus point Vick drew smaller circles in much larger circle around the focus. This was to be the barrier for the focus and keep the magic it stored within it. The small circles he drew with the quill were little boxes linked together by a circle. It did not leave any empty space as he took his time making the sigils letting them link together.

Afterwards he then wrote what the focus was to be in the upper right corner of the scroll. The focus was anything that would let the barrier go and let the focus be used. A lot of times voice commands would work and that is what Vick was going to do as well. Within a small box he wrote “Say Unleash” and took a step back looking at his first scroll.

Before he kept going he placed his hands along it as he called forth his Djed. Emptyness filled him as he focused just above the focus as he thought of nothing at all until a portal flared to life. Yet before it could do anything the tiny portal just was sucked in the focus as that faded into nothing. The barrier would keep the focus in check until he or someone said the right release word from the trigger box.

It was the first one but he was far from being done but it took him almost half a bell to even make this one for doing Glyphing with his skill in it took a very long time to say the least. His free time was running out and he still wanted to try to work on one more quick project before he was forced to go to back to work magecrafting.

He made it back to his lab and just had one more bell to go before he had to go back to work. A mental sigh was formed as he looked in a small box of bones as he pulled out a small bone he could work with. It was a snake skull. He never really knew much of snakes besides avoiding them and sorta wanting them as a pet but he knew the ones he got did have a poison to them and that the fangs sent that poison out yet that was about it.

Normally he would have spent days researching the subject and getting everything ready but he just did not have the time. This was the first time he felt rushed to do anything with this larger project going on in the background as he took out a simple pencil. This would not be his best would but he did have a idea to lace the skull as a necklace and to try to boost someones skill with poison.

It was going to be hard really and he knew if he failed the charm could even poison the user of it before anything else or make it fly and attack people. That was how his craft went really. One idea and focus normally could turn around and be something else even with his skill. Yet if he was not careful he could ruin a great artifact but as he saw the aura of the bone he knew this would not be a great anything for the animal djed was just not enough. More djed the object had the better it would be.

He was going to make this quick and try to sell it or trade it for a better bone. The top of the skull did not leave a lot of room but he did not need a lot as just one circle would be fine due to the low amount of djed was locked away. If he had the full body he might have been able to do more but with just the skull and no history he was pushed to do simple work or at least when it came to the circle.

The pencil touched the scroll but he just had to shake his head and dip it in some black ink to let the print stand out more as he made the circle as big as he could touching the full room as the circle touched the edges of the skull. His lungs moved out as he took air inside them and blew on the skull forcing the ink to dry faster. Time was not on his side after all.

Once that was done he started his work. In fine writing print he told a story that was made in a circle, with each new line he made it deeper into the circle making a spiral of text within the one circle. His letters were very tiny but it did not matter as long as he knew what they were with his resolve. He kept that in mind as his djed flowed from within his soul into the pencil and onto the skull. He did this without thought now and did it as it helped him unlock the full power of the objects djed.

The story was told as he finished it up letting the bell pass him by. He was going to be late but he just had a bit more time as he did the last finishing touches. Clearly not his best work but given the time limits and his other needs it was still good nonetheless in his eyes.

‘Whoever wears this charm shall be blessed with the power of poison. Thy touch with poisons shall be better than before yet if removed by force or feeling endanger the charm shall bite and flood the threat with poison from the past.’

Vick tied some leather string within the eyes so that it would be held as a necklace or bracelet before he let a drop of his blood touch along the skull. His incor faded into nothingness but he knew it was done as he placed the skull in a small box meant for testing.

It would be tested than sold or kept but he was not sure. Maybe if it worked right he would keep it as he could find a use for it. With that he just left his office for he knew it was time to work once more. That was sahova really, working all the time nonstop.

It's Not What You Think...

Great thread! Now lets see what you made ;)

Snake Skull Charm-A small skull of a once poisonous snake with fangs still intact, laced into a charm with leather. The item holds a certain selective process for those who might use it, having a preference for warm hosts. If denied, the charm will find the fangs slowly corroding away both fabric and flesh resulting in a sharp stinging that slowly radiates outwards. However, if the host is accepted, the charm will sink its teeth into them and resist removal. An accepted host experiences a magical antivenom that offers some immunity to poisonous snakes and poisons crafted from their venom. When forcefully removed the once host’s immune system is weakened until the puncture wounds have fully healed. In this time risk of infection is high, in which case the negative effects can be prolonged indefinitely, possibly leading to death.

If the magic scroll is ever handled roughly or activated, the small void will open for a few moments before collapsing in on itself.

Keep them coming :)
