The Wilderness of Cyphrus is an endless sea of tall grass that rolls just like the oceans themselves. Geysers kiss the sky with their steamy breath, and mysterious craters create microworlds all their own. But above all danger lives here in the tall grass in the form of fierce wild creatures; elegant serpents that swim through the land like whales through the ocean and fierce packs of glassbeaks that hunt in packs which are only kept at bay by fires. Traverse it carefully, with a guide if possible, for those that venture alone endanger themselves in countless ways.

Of course, the chances of the two fiery Drykas doing any of the mundane things they listed were nil. Kashik and Van simply could not consider anything beyond the other's powerful presence, the next word they would speak, the next place that would be touched. In the back of his mind, Vanator knew they should be leaving for Endrykas, a full half-day's travel away. But it didn't matter, not with Kashik this close, this beautiful, this fascinating.

He wrapped his arms around Kashik, shifting to lay her down on the blanket, giving her a throaty laugh. "I have a much better idea!" He muttered in her ear. He pressed himself up by his arms, still postioned strategically between her thighs. He began to tease her, much as she teased him in the grass, with a motion that lightly grazed against her. He continued for several chimes, the result as taunting to himself as it was to his partner. He finally rolled, turning her with him until they were facing each other on their sides. Giggling, they wrangled and twisted and entwined until their bodies found the perfect fit, beginning a relaxed, casual rhythm that allowed them to enjoy kissing, touching and talking while they writhed in pleasure.

When their lovemaking finally ended in another tumultuous climax, Vanator, panting and still entangled with the bronzed Drykas woman, touched his lips to hers. "We should get to Endrykas, it will already be near nightfall when we arrive, if we leave now." The idea of leaving made him pout inside like a little boy. Certainly they could not go on like this forever, the cheese and bread would run out.

After a few long chimes of simply holding each other, Van finally untangled himself from Kashik and rose to his feet. His body felt worn and drained, aching in places, but thoroughly content and at peace. Offering Kashik a hand up, though he knew she didn't need it, he then returned to the rock to retrieve his breeches and reluctantly pulled them on, followed by his tunic and finally tugging on his boots.

The Drykas lovers had packed the Striders, doused the fire and finished off the food. Van stepped over to Kashik and kissed her deeply before vaulting into Backlash's yvas. Van sucked in a deep breath of the moist grassy air, then flashed a sly grin at Kashik. "I would be most delighted to show you to Endrykas Kashik Brightsmile, if you can catch me!" Van winked at the her before Backlash lurched forward and launched across the grasslands in amid a thunder of hoof beats.

If he'd asked, Kashik would have admitted that she'd never before experienced love-making quite like she did with Vanator. But then, he'd been married - he understood that sex itself was not the same as intimacy, couldn't fill the same needs that a warm smile and a gentle touch could. Poor Kashik hadn't even known such needs existed until this laughing, tender warrior reached out a hand and soothed her, body and soul.

When it was over, and he mentioned leaving, she couldn't help but snuggle in just a fraction closer to him as if in protest, the same pout showing obvious on full lips as she sighed and refused to part herself from him. She didn't hold him there, but neither was she going to be the one to pull away. She could very happily go another day without food, thank you, if it meant having this surprising man at her side. But soon common sense took hold, and he rose, and she didn't protest when she put her hand in his and let him pull her up.

She dressed as well, and as she began to prepare their camp to leave she smiled and sang a children's song - one for traveling, one her Pavilion had always sung when they packed up the tents and prepared to move to their next campsite. It cheered her, made her remember that life was always about movement, about going forward, about enjoying what one had and not dwelling on what was lost - or what would be lost.

She got the yvas and bags up on Hiloha with a minimum of complaint from him, and then found herself in Vanator's arms once more. She curled her hands in his shirt and kissed him back just as deeply, just as fiercely, and if there was something of a good-bye in it, well, perhaps it was just for this place and what they'd been able to share together. Whatever came next would not be the same as this - or at least she hoped it couldn't, because if it could she'd have no chance of surviving with her heart intact.

When he laughed his challenge, though, she gave a feral grin much as she had when he'd first accepted hers. "Hey!" she laughed as he took off before she'd even mounted... but then, she'd done it to him, so she wasn't at all put out. She simply vaulted onto Hiloha's back and grabbed onto the yvas, giving him his head and letting him chase after Backlash and the man who rode her, trying desperately to catch him before he escaped.

The gods forbid I spend the rest of my days just like this...

END!
