"Don't go to Ravok. A pretty face cannot hide a black heart and for all that I've loved the city in my youth, I've hated it all my life." Leaf muttered. He didn't go into detail, that wasn't his way. He hadn't told anybody about his time there and that wouldn't change so easily.

They moved off the road and descended into blissful quiet. Leaf enjoyed that he didn't have to struggle to make decent conversation any longer. It wasn't really that he didn't enjoy it, more that having to keep up conversation wasn't what he usually did. He kept to himself in Wind Reach if he didn't have a pressing need to speak with another person. He liked to spend time outside as much as possible due to his aversion. He didn't want to be treated as he had in Ravok.

They continued in quiet, the rustle of wind over leaves and the quiet padding of their feet. He tried to be quiet but he didn't give much thought into sneaking up on prey. They startled into sight if they heard him.

There were quiet rustling all around them and the gentle chitter of squirrels chattering at eachother. Leaf could identify the sound of their voice and even knew when they were arguing, as they were now, for the pitch and frequency of their voices were quick and sharp as they were now. Leaf wasn't interested in squirrels just yet.

He paused as he heard heavier sounds than the scritching of squirrel claws on bark. A steady cadence of thump-thump that caused him to inadvertently slow down and cock his head. He couldn't see what was making the noise but it sounded big enough for him to care about.

Glancing at Ishgrameer, he gestured for him to move to the left. Assuming a leadership role wasn't his strength but he did it on instinct since there were two of them now. Hoping that the other Kelvic caught on to Leaf's desire to have him try to surround whatever it was, while being stealthier than they just were a few ticks ago, he traipsed off as quietly as he possibly could in the other direction, his arrow notched and ready to fire.

Hunting.

Ishgrameer followed in step behind Leaf, with his bow in hand and an arrow carefully nocked. He had heard the noise stirring just beyond their vision. It was surely a large creature to be making such a ruckus in this area. Then he saw it, and he was sure that Leaf could see it. How could they miss it? It was a Neyka Bear, and by the looks of its antlers a male. He had seen a few of these creatures when he had hunted alone in the wilds, but he had done his best to avoid them. They were not a creature to be taken lightly or alone for that matter. The bear true to his memory was as big as the ones of his youth. He supposed that it could be worse; it could still be fall, and then the bears much more aggressive.

Ishgrameer stepped silently beside Leaf and signaled to him that he would be ready to fire on his mark. Ishgrameer watched the bear with an unflinching gaze as he moved to the left as Leaf had indicated, and then positioned himself accordingly trying to be as stealthy as possible. The bear was lumbering about, and had yet to notice their presence. This was good, but he knew that it was only a matter of time before the bear caught wind of them. They needed to act wisely but with haste while they still had the element of surprise. He hoped that surrounding the bear would confuse it briefly, but part of him knew from watching them fight, that it would only be brief. The real problem would come when the bear charged, and whoever it chose would have to fire fast or run like hell.

If they managed to down the might creature, then it would be a great start to the hunt, because the bear’s hide and antlers would fetch a good price.

Hunting.

Postby Leaf on February 8th, 2013, 8:50 am

Leaf's scowl deepened at the sight of the antlered bear digging at the base of a tree before him, clearly displeased that the first animal they'd come across would be a Neyka.

Ishgrameer signalled to Leaf that he was in position and Leaf raised his bow, pulling the string back to his body as he took aim at the bear through a gap in the leaves. His trepidation grew as he prepared his shot, knowing that death could come in a moment if the bear caught on to their scent before they could down it. Thankfully, he seemed more intent at digging up the tree than paying attention to his surroundings, but that wouldn't stop him from finding them out fast.

The Kelvic took his shoot, the arrow winging through the air and landing at the thick patch of fur on the bear's shoulder. It was harmless. He notched another arrow, fumbling in his hurry, before letting it soar as well. A third one was quick to be unsheathed, but he didn't have the chance to fire, for the bear had recovered and reared up before them with a mighty roar.

And then he charged at Leaf.

Leaf ran.

He could feel the thundering beat of the bear's paws on the ground and hear the labouring breath of the beast as it ran. Fear gave Leaf the energy to run faster than he ever had before, but it also waned quickly. He could only hope Ishgrameer was also running and trying to down the beast. Perhaps if he could get the bear's attention, they could confuse it and work together to bring it down.

Hunting.

Postby Ishgrameer Windwalker on February 12th, 2013, 6:35 pm

Ishgrameer watched as Leaf took the lead and launched the first shot at the bear. It hit of course but it was a harmless blow; they would have to work harder for their prize. A second flew, but he couldn't tell if it had hit or not. Then the worst happened. The bear charged, and sent Leaf running. Luckily he wasn't running towards him, so Ishgrameer didn't have to worry about the bear just yet. However as soon as he took his shot, the bear might switch to him, and the he would be the one fleeing with Leaf.

He had to take the opportunity that Leaf had presented him though, for the bear was charging through the clearing in the trees, which afforded him a good view for his shot. He had to take it before the bear made it to the thicker stand of trees. He notched the arrow and put another in his hand so that he could take a quick second shot. He steadied himself, took a deep breath, and loosed the arrow. It sailed through the air, between trees, and came to rest in the bears back left flank. A little more effective than Leaf's shot, but not debilitating. He was hoping that with a few more shots they could debilitate the bear, by bringing it to the ground with enough good shots to the legs; or at least one good shot to the head. He notched the second arrow in quick succession and fired again, barely missing a tree, and hitting the bear about a hands span lower on the same flank.

The bear now had a noticeable limp, but not enough to stop its adrenaline fueled charge. The one thing that did change is that the bear had now gained his scent, and in rage had diverted course to him rather suddenly. With only a small amount of a head-start, Ishgrameer ran, at a sprint, hoping to distance himself from the bear. He ran thus that his path and the bear's would lead within sight of Leaf, so he could take another shot. He hoped he would catch on the his plan, or if not at least get some good shots in. The bear was closing, and as he rounded a tree he made a quick dash to the side which caused the bear to turn suddenly, which caused the bear to slip due to its injuries. However this was only a temporary benefit as within a few moments the bear would be back up and running, he just hoped he gave Leaf enough time to keep distance and shoot.
