Jaai takes a rest after long, lonely days of travel though the wildlands

(This is a thread from Mizahar's fantasy role play forum. Why don't you register today? This message is not shown when you are logged in. Come roleplay with us, it's fun!)

While Sylira is by far the most civilized region of Mizahar, countless surprises and encounters await the traveler in its rural wilderness. Called the Wildlands, Syliran's wilderness is comprised of gradual rolling hills in the south that become deep wilderness in the north. Ruins abound throughout the wildlands, and only the well-marked roads are safe.

Music on the Wind

"Does this wilderness crap go on forever?" Jaai thought aloud. He road atop his horse Lija, but his backside was sore and he was sick of riding. He'd been riding for days, weeks it seemed. He also didn't want to set up camp yet, it was still the middle of the day. Either way he was getting off this horse. His boots hit the ground with a dull thud, and he tied Lija to a tree. "There, girl," He said watering, and feeding her. Once he was done with that, he dropped his backpack to the ground and sat on a near by rock, looking upwards at the clouds. "There is no one here. I'm sick of no one being here, when will I get to a damn city." He told no one in particular. He was speaking in common. He tended to try to avoid his native language so he could work on the language of humans. The humans that lived in Sylirus. It was so shatteringly painful for him to be so far away from people he can annoy, it was driving him mad. He found himself delving into the past and he HATED doing that.

He grunted and lowered himself onto the grassy forest floor, but restlessly sat up again soon after a few seconds, grabbing his pack for his flute. He didn't know any musical theroy or songs, but he could make up his own tunes. Because of the fact that he couldn't write them down, they were always different. He thought that when he got to Sylirus he'd learn how to write notes. Maybe buy a book on it or something. Boy, that would be difficult to read, as it was sure to be in common. He put his flute to his lips and played a lively tune. He played loudly, and the chilly wind made the instrument carry further than it would do normally. he had to stop quite a few times to adjust his fingers, but the notes were sounding better. This was the one thing he couldn't enjoy unless alone, and it helped him relax.

It was relaxing playing. He enjoyed it much more than he would ever admit to anyone else. As he played, he wished someone would hear. It was really lonely. Jaai hated alone. He hated cold. He hated being sore and tired. Someone to talk to wouldn't go amiss right now.

Kayle Spent his time outside the city walls to enjoy the environment, regardless of the condition. He wanders through the cold with his furry companion, Ren in his backpack. He smiles as he ventured through the land, until he heard a sound that sweetened the blowing air. It was the sound of the flute. Kayle followed the noise, leading him to a boy. He looked a bit younger than Kayle, he was probably sixteen to nineteen years old. Kayle continued listening to the boy’s song. Kayle reached his flutegun under his cloak, holding it in a playing position. With a smile on his face, he played a notes that harmonized with the boy’s song.

Music on the Wind

Postby Nemanjak on February 20th, 2013, 12:40 pm

Nemanjak steps out of his one-man tent yawning as he has just woke up from his nap. He feels peckish so he grabs his short bow and 20 of his short bow arrows which he places in the backpack to make it easier to carry. He also puts on his camoflauge armor (or however you spell it) on and tends for some meat. He starts running through the forest searching for anything he was to find when he hears the sound of the flute. He starts to run towards the origins of the music and when he found someone, he quickly climbed as he would recognize it, an apple tree, to answer his common questions, is he alone, does he have food, is he a threat? He seems to only see his horse which would make a delightful meal but he tends to ignore it and grabs an apple to eat. With his a bit sharp hearing he notices that there is not one, but two flutes, one down there and the other nearby and he decides to make the best of the tree and stays there.

Music on the Wind

Postby Jaai on February 20th, 2013, 1:41 pm

Jaai was startled when another flute joined in. He really hadn't expected someone else to actually be there. He stopped short, mid note, and turned to look at the new-comer. The new-comer who also played flute, and very well by the sounds of it; he had flawlessly harmonised with Jaai, even though Jaai himself didn't really know what he was playing. Jaai stood, looking at him at first, not quite sure how to say what he wanted to in common. He was a little ashamed of the fact that, although this man was not particularly tall, he was STILL taller than Jaai! He had a fairly slim build, very dark hair, even darker than his own. He had a kind look about him.

Jaai snapped out of his thoughts, and gave the other boy one of his famous childish grins " That was quite good." He proclaimed, a short sentence far off from what he wanted to say, but the best he could do. "I was hoping someone would hear. Travelling alone is so boring." He strolled up closer to the male, extending a hand for him to shake. "My name is Jaai" He told him. "It is nice to meet you" Jaai was a little ashamed that he hadn't yet acquired a natural tone when he spoke in his second language, he still sounded either robotic or too formal. He had a bit of an accent that remained from his days in the desert. His Tawna was still strong, but he didn't like speaking in anything but common.

"Is that an animal in your pack?" Jaai noticed suddenly as a patch of white fur caught his eye

Nemanjak has decided to jump from the tree and he rushed to the nearby large bush to get a closer look of the two. Eventually he has made a choice to come out and say hello: "Hello, name is Nemanjak, your every day average expert survivor in the Wildlands. May I ask what is your name and what you are doing here exactly?. So I heard some nice flute music, I believe I have an old metal one at home but I haven't played it that much... Perhaps I can give it a shot though. Anyway, you do have some potential but, I don't see any paper, do you make that stuff up or something? Or do you not know how to read the notes?

Kayle continued playing his harmony, until the boy stopped. The boy turned to face Kayle and greets him with a smile that only a child could wear. He introduced himself as Jaai. Kayle examined the boy bearing a warm smile on his face. He walked towards Kayle and gestures to shake his hand. KIayle lowers his flute, staring at the hand. His eyes moved from his hand in to Jaai’s eyes.

“Heheh. Nice to meet you, Jaai. I’m Kayle” he chuckled with a smile, shaking his hand.

Kayle noticed that Jaai was tilting his head, as if he saw something behind Kayle. Kayle responded by looking behind, there he was greeted by Ren who popped out of his bag. Jaai fired a question about the animal.

“heheh, yes. It as an animal, She’s my furry companion, a ferret.” Kayle said as he gestures Ren to come out.

As Ren jumped on to his hand, an animal pops out of the bush. It was an ape-like humanoid, and it spoke. It introduced itself and fired a series of questions. Kayle was dumbfound and couldn’t answer, all he did was laugh and smile.

Jaai looked at the ferret and felt a pang of sadness as he remembered his old companion. He didn't let this transfer onto his face to. He was about to respond when suddenly someone popped out of the bush, and started talking at an impressive rate, as if he'd forgotten how to breathe between sentences. "Um, My name is Jaai..." Jaai told him, raising an eyebrow at the guy "Were you seriously just hiding in a bush?" He asked a little uneasily "That's a little odd aint't it? Do you like to spy on people or...?" He trailed off, not really knowing how he planned to actually finish that sentence. He wanted to say weirdo, but he didn't know the common word for that.

He had a weird feeling about this guy. From the scar on his face to the way he spoke, but mostly the fact that he just suddenly came out of a bush. Jaai didn't know exactly what to think, but he knew he didn't exactly trust him, and remained wary. Jaai walked past Kayle to get a closer look, making sure his sword was at his belt, just in case. He was silent for a while, then he shook his head and tried to think back to the man's question. "Yes I... make that stuff up" Jaai said gesturing to his flute "I can not read music" Jaai hadn't caught everything the man had said, he knew there was a lot that he'd missed. He was huge, and ape-like, and Jaai didn't like him to begin with. But maybe he was judging too soon? 'Only time would tell... I guess' Jaai thought

He backed up again so he faced both Kayle and Nema... Nemanji, Nemanjak. That was it. Hopefully... He turned his attention back to Ren "Hello, Ren" He said smile back on his face "I should get myself a pet," Jaai thought aloud, "It's just real boring by myself." He looked between the two of the "So where are you both going?" That didn't sound right, but moving on "I'm going to Sylirus" Jaai told them.

“Oh are you?” Said Kayle quizzically, scratching under Ren's chin with his finger.

Kayle just came out of Syliras to enjoy the open aired environment, away from the city. However, he didn’t mind traveling back if it means helping someone either physically or socially. He smiles at Jaai warmly as he began to speak.

“I wasn’t heading anywhere in particular. I was just heading out to enjoy the nice landscape, but if you are seeking social activities or bored, I could assist you” He said as he placed Ren on his head.

Ren sniffed the air and clucked happily. Kayle looks up at her and gives her a look at he said ‘oh, really?’ He looks back at Jaai with a pleasant and content expression on his face. His eyes connected with Jaai’s, and then he smiles once again.

“Ren has taking a liking to you, heheh. This is quite rare, she is usually shy to strangers… but for some reason his isn’t shy of you.” He said, alternating his gaze between Ren and Jaai.

Nemanjak noticed that they thought of him as a weirdo and a un-trusty person so he began to explain why he popped out of the bush, so with a slow and calm voice he said:

"You might be wondering why I have just, popped out of the bush. No, I do not spy on people, and yes, I am an un-trusty person, but then again, living in the Wildlands for as long as I am does that to a person, especially a person who lives on his own really. Anyway, you two must be wondering how I got this scar, right? Well, I come from Sunberth.. Thievery, killing, everything, I got sick of it so I moved to the Wildlands.. Why? Well, I have never hated the loneliness as it makes me feel, safer really, nobody to back stab you nor to kill you. Too bad I cannot trust after Sunberth isn't it, so, I never quite caught why you are here, please do tell me?

"Heh heh heh, I'm just a likeable person I guess!" He grinned poking a thumb at himself and chuckling, then he turned his grin on Ren "Who is an awesome ferret?" He said playfully looking at the ferret who was now on Kayle's head. Jaai looked up again, and replied to Kayle's offer "Well, what have you got in mind?" Jaai said happily. He'd almost for got that Namanjak was there so when he spoke again it was a shock.

"Uh, I'm here because I was traveling to Sylirus, Here specifically because my arse was sore and I wanted to get off my horse" He chuckled, but his smile died again soon after, This guy... He didn't know how to respond to his little story mostly because he didn't understand wanting solitude. Human interaction was a need of humans, wasn't it? "If you dislike people, why did you follow the sound of my flute?" Jaai said sceptically "think you'd find a dear making that noise did you?" He said sarcastically.

He had heard of Sunberth, a place of chaos, a place Jaai wanted to steer clear of.
