The races on paperback: now on Amazon!

(This is a thread from Mizahar's fantasy roleplay forum. Why don't you register today? This message is not shown when you are logged in. Come roleplay with us, it's fun!)

IC News travels slowly in Mizahar. Fortunately there is a constant stream of news from around campfires, from caravan to caravan and from merchants to merchants. Within this forum lies the best of the best of this talk. Also, within this forum, OOC news from the staff and players can be found. This forum requires all posts to be 'approved' by a Founder before they are displayed. So if you post within, be patient. Your post did display - it simply will not show to everyone until approved as actual 'news'. Please keep all Introductions, Status Updates, and various other discussions in their appropriate forums and leave this area for game news!

Apologies, wasn't meaning to offend, just trying to give feedback. Rest assured your efforts are appreciated.

The races on paperback: now on Amazon!

Bethsyliss wrote:It's nice to have that sort of thing published as proof of the eminence of the Mizahar community. But it is a great letdown to discover the book is a copy-paste of the wiki on the site (at least according to what the Amazon preview shows)... I hope subsequent editions will feature exclusive content or at least alternate writing/structure to make it handier as well as more special -- maybe hardback would be cool --, because unless any of that happens, I'm very unlikely to buy them (but then again, I might).

I think you totally and entirely miss the point of the book.

As far as I can tell you've been on site for less than two weeks, whereas many of us have been around for a year upwards. We've dipped in and out of Miza's lore for a long time, while playing, reading, immersing ourselves in the site and its world. I think it would be difficult for you to understand the joy we feel holding that lore in a permanent, paper form, we can take anywhere and read to our hearts content. It's not about "exclusive" content, it's about exclusive awe for our players (and for the Founders who wrote that content initially to see it in a published, printed book.)

Your comments come from the point of view of someone who hasn't even seen the site grow (12 days isn't a long time) so perhaps reserve judgement a little, yeah?

The races on paperback: now on Amazon!

Hi Paragon,

She apologized. I don't think being patronizing and putting down her personal opinions (which she is very much entitled to) on the basis that she is a new player is necessary. Receiving feedback from the newer players, as well as the old, is just as important.

Your explanation re: why the book exists and follows the lore to a T is spot on. But, seeing as this thread is partly for feedback, I think she raised a valid point which was since addressed.

Thanks,
Scarab

I wrote that reply and posted it before seeing her apology. Regardless, I wasn't being patronising or putting her down, I was simply putting another view point across.

Let's put the breaks on people.

I don't think this is the place to openly critique members for their honest opinions and counter opinions. If you have ISSUES with posts here and responses to posts here please take them to private PMs.

I saw a person giving their honest feedback. I saw a few other people explaining why things were as they were. There's no harm in any of that. There is harm in telling someone - when you don't have the site authority to do so - that what they are doing is wrong in this forum. That is not anyone's place but the Founders. If your NAME IS ON THE FORUM as a moderator then that's a whole different story.

Feedback is always welcome. Good, bad, indifferent in equal measures. When you post feedback that is negative though you have to live with the repercussions - maybe people won't want to post with you. Maybe they won't have a high opinion of you. But when you do so at least your speaking your mind. And you also have to expect others trying to explain why things are as they are.

Darn. I was hoping to find more info on the dhani so I could Rp them better. Oh well theres always the help desk.

Just my newbie two cents: If you put original content in the books it may be wise to avoid putting certain exclusive info in it. Otherwise you may get players that have knowlage of the game that others can't rp with because they lack the book. For example, if you do a book on cities it would be great if it gave more depth into thier backrounds, but if you talked about places or features that the wiki doesn't speak of some people might get confused. Of course that could also be an enticing reason to buy the books too I guess.

Oh and as an idea of something you could put in the magic book would be more tips on how to use certain skills (spells a reimancer could use, more info on what the familiar's species are, some things summoners could call, ect.)

I hope I'm not overstepping my bounds here. Good job it seems like you all have done a wonderful job with the site.^^

To hide his dhani nature from anyone, Svan has taken measures to hide his lisp. As such, he will not have any extra "ssss" on his words unless indicated otherwise.
