Kyra returns through the Wildlands on her travels and meets a katana slinger

While Sylira is by far the most civilized region of Mizahar, countless surprises and encounters await the traveler in its rural wilderness. Called the Wildlands, Syliran's wilderness is comprised of gradual rolling hills in the south that become deep wilderness in the north. Ruins abound throughout the wildlands, and only the well-marked roads are safe.

Kyra stepped lithely through the forest of the Wildlands as she headed back to Syliras. If there was a reason for her swift return, or a calling of some sort, the young kelvic had no idea. Although she had traveled around Sylira over the last two years, she didn't truly like one city more than the other. After her quick exit from Ravok, she simply returned to the place that she recalled the way, whether it was the easiest or not. She was close now, not days away from reaching the city in which she would likely stay for a while, but at the time nothing was certain.

The girl had awoke that morning to the sound of loud birds and chattering squirrels as those animals were always the first to awake in the early mornings of the days.Once she was up, Kyra packed up her bag and weapons before starting off again towards the city. It was interesting, though she barley noticed it at all. Her body was growing tougher due to all the traveling that she had done, and as a result, she could make the walk easier and faster without getting as tired.

However she hadn't noticed really, only thinking that she must have found a better short cut to have made it there without loosing a lot of time. Her mind was mostly still on the events that led her to flee Ravok. That day had been a year and a half in the making and now that it was over, now that she had gotten her life back she had no idea what to do with it. The young kelvic had everywhere to go, and no where. Without her companions, she had trouble figuring out where she wanted to go and what she wanted to do.

It was the first time that she was ever this free and had nothing tying her down or holding her back. She stood in the opening, a bustle of trees and forest in front and behind her, as she looked around to find her next path to lead her to the city. The WIldlands were a forest, but it was also a labyrinth and even for those who travel it, they too can get lost.

Blades In The Rising Sun (Lexa Maze)

"Oh great!" Lexa said out loud, frustration building. She had walked a long distance to find that she was closer to Sylirus than she was to anywhere else. She had gotten herself ost and had gone the wrong way.

Brilliant.

She turned herself around to walk back up the stupid wrong path leading to her old home. She had already decided where she was going. To Zeltiva. She wanted to travel as much as possible before she ever thought about settling somewhere.

It was still morning, quite early by the looks of it as well, the sun had only just began to rise in the sky. It was a beautiful morning. It really was. The sky was a fiery mix of all of Lexa's favourite colours. It was cool, but not cold, nor was it windy. Lexa was in need of something more than senery this morning though. Whenever she was alone for to long, traveling, she got agitated, which drove her to the old habit of training and picking fights. Of course there was no one out here but the same tree's, and plants.

So she would have to occipy herself. Just off the path, Lexa found a smally clearing. She could do with some more sword practice. Lexa dumped her stuff, make sure to keep an eye on it even while she was slashing and swinging her blade. She walked a couple of long steps and found herself in the middle of the clearing. She got into stance and yelled a battle cry. She thrusted, slashed, spun and defended. She enjoyed the adrenilin that coursed through her and tried to make her forms correct, yet powerful at the same time. Birds chirped and animals scurried around in the tree's but Lexa was in a world of her own

Everything was an enemy. She imagined them and she sliced and chopped the air, all coming at her. It was how she liked to train, how she had been taught to train--like there was someone there

She was so into it that she didn't notice anyone walking down the pathway she had left not a minutes ago. She just kept on training as the sun rose in the sky.
Sweat trickled down her face and eventually she would stop and, with a jold, notice the strange.

"Oh gods-" She muttered. It was a fair skinned, and almost white haired girl. She couldn't see that much more about her. She had to say something now, didn't she? But she was at a loss. Maybe this stranger would be a little more talkative than herself. Lexa put away the blade, but had a hand on it still, just in case. She felt exposed, like someone had intruded on her. She always felt this way when she was interrupted when training. Especially if they watched her. Lexa had no idea how long that lady had been there...

"Was it a left in this direction?...Or was it the right? Hmm...I wonder..did I come this way at all the last time?"

Kyra sighed softly, lifting a hand to wave nibble fingers through her long blondish hair. She had been at it for a while now, walking through the forest as she searched for the walled city, but so far having found nothing but more forest. The young kelvic wasn't frustrated, but she was beginning to feel wary from travel. There was something about the forest that calmed her and gave her a sense of serenity unlike she felt in any city. The wilds were her home away from home, but in this uncertain future that she found herself in, she had no other home.

Reaching into her pack, she pulled out her water skin and took a long drink. Kyra instantly felt relief as the soothing waters coursed down her throat, cooling the heat that her walk had worked up inside her body. The girl wiped her mouth before returning the water skin into her backpack and scanned the area again. "I don't suppose that it could be much further from here. I remember this place..and yet I do not." It was times like this that Kyra arched a brow at her own forgetfulness. It would have been a lot easier to make her way back had she the hindsight to purchase a map.

Sadly that hadn't happened and as the kelvic was in a hurry before she left, there hadn't been enough time to do so. Kyra continued on after looking around more and headed down the path in front of her. The animals in the area were in high spirits, birds chirped loudly from tree tops, and a few even swooped down and circled Kyra for a bit. They chirped more, dashing passed her, and twirling her frame rather closely. The girl giggled, lifting her arms to shield her face from the tiny flying animals. They got very close to her, wings beating against her hair and shoulders as if they wanted to mount her. Kyra wasn't sure if they were being playful or attempting a failed attack.

The path that she followed brought her to a clearing where she first was alerted to the sounds, followed by her golden eyes falling onto a woman slashing her blade against the wind. It didn't appear strange to the young kelvic, as she herself had once trained against a tree. She could still remember the look on Clyde's face when he saw what she was doing. Of course being a mage, he would never understand the need to train, even when a suitable training partner wasn't available.

Kyra watched the woman for a bit, without saying anything. Her form was different from her own, and even from that of others that she had saw fighting. But the thing that she focused on mostly, was the katana that she wielded. Kyra had seen one of them before, even used that very weapon to finish off the man whom she had been searching for. She watched the woman more, attempting to learn the way she moved and handled the blade.

Finally, when the woman noticed her, the girl took a few careful steps forward and to the woman's unarmed side as she watched her. "That blade you're carrying..I've seen it before. What is it called?"

Blades In The Rising Sun (Lexa Maze)

Postby Lexa Maze on March 16th, 2013, 2:27 pm

It was strange to be bothered out here by someone other than bandits or animals. You could spend days without seeing anyone. And it could be taxing living with herself alone, with nothing to stop her from thinking and analising herself, and things she had done in her life. She could really do with a brake. But this morning, that has been swinging around her blade. She supposed it was a bit of a stress relief. It wasn't as good as fighting, and beating someone. She was often ashamed, but aware of the good feeling she got from having power over someone. Especially if they had underestimated her abilities.

It had been such a lonely morning for the warrior, that she wasn't in the right frame of mind to deal with strangers. Lexa snapped out of her embarrassed, and exposed mood as soon as the white haired woman spoke. She must admit, she did fancy the girl. She was very pretty, very unique looking, and someone who shouldn't be interested in someone as plain as herself. Lexa narrowed her eyes as the woman walked forward, but otherwise stayed fairly neutral. Her fighting style had probably been exposed but she didn't look like she wanted to fight, so maybe it wouldn't matter. Peh, she knew that was ridiculous as soon as it entered her mind. She couldn't know what this woman intended. So Lexa made sure to keep up a suitable guard.

Lexa was careful to keep all her possessions in the corner of her eye just in case, but mostly she studied the woman. She was closer now, as Lexa took a few tentative steps forward as well. Lexa suddenly caught sight of the yellow eyes she possessed. They weren't human, for sure. Lexa stared at them more closely. They resembled that of an animal. maybe some kind of feline? Lexa guessed that she was a kelvic but did consider other races. She hadn't met many, mostly humans, so she couldn't be sure of anything.

The woman walked towards her and asked about her blade "It's a Katana." Lexa said carefully taking it out of the holder at her waist "I hope you don't mind me asking, but you have some very unique looking eyes, so I was wondering what race you were?"

As the woman approached her, Kyra noticed how she was cautious and even kept an eye on her things in case she attempted to try and rob her. The young kelvic was slightly amused by this, thinking back on the many people who thought her as harmless as a kitten, and were more than happy to invite her into their circle without thinking for an instinct that she might attack them. She moved closer to the woman as she moved forward, though she turned off into a half circle instead of walking directly up to her.

"A Katana, it is a fascinating weapon and it is very light to handled. Much more than my own." As she finished, Kyra reached over her shoulder and pulled her bastard sword from it's sheath and held it out for the woman to see. The blade was still new, and so far she hadn't had any time to practice with it or use it at all. While keeping her gaze on the stranger, Kyra turned the sword with her arm and moved it about as she retested it's weight.

She paused from the task she was doing and looked back to the woman when she asked about her race. It wasn't an odd question and one she had gotten many times in reference to her eyes. However Kyra wasn't comfortable telling strangers personal information. Her earlier years in Ravok and throughout Sylira had shown her the prejudice that humans had for kelvics. It wasn't safe for her to go around telling people such things when slavers and soldiers were so slow by.

Instead, she smiled sweetly and turned her sword upside down to where the blade gently pushed into the dirt and grass at her feet. "Do you like my eyes?" she asked simply. "Your eyes are unique as well, I suppose we are the same." Again her gaze fell onto the blade that the woman carried, the katana as she had learned it was called. The kelvic lifted her sword a bit higher, pushing the handle of her bastard sword towards the woman with a friendly smile. "May I see it? Your katana? I don't mind if you hold my sword."

"Oh" Lexa said rather awkwardly "I'm sorry, I didn't really think that through. I didn't mean to pry or anything." Wow, Lexa, way to be rude and forward. Maybe try to be a little less socially awkward? "Was just curious, you know? I'm only a human, my eyes are pretty boring if you ask me" She tried a light chuckle but it sounded weak, even by Lexa's standards.

Maybe Lexa should have expected the deflection, it shouldn't have been that surprising, really. Oh well. Maybe the woman would give more away as the morning went on. In any case, Lexa was just as guarded and carful as this woman was, so she shouldn't pry like that. Still she was curious about the woman, however, and couldn't help but let her eyes sweep over her features. They were pleasant features, after all. Lexa thought she was even prettier up closer. Her hair was thin, and silky, and those eyes were difficult to look away from. "I've always preferred lightly handled weapons like this one." Lexa said in response to the woman's interest in her blade "I have no skill in anything heavier. What sort of sword is that?" She asked, watching as the woman turned it over in her hands, testing its weight.

Lexa smiled slightly as she asked to hold the sword she owned. Lexa was uncomfortable handing her sword over to the stranger, but the woman had offered up her own. Still... it was a very expensive weapon.

Lexa held the sword up to her eyes and looked over it, and then back to the woman "At least tell me your name first wont you? I'm Lexa." She supplied, attempting another smile to show she was no harm to her. If the woman answered, she would smile again, turn the blade so its patterned hilt faced her and offer it up for her to handle, deciding to take a gamble. She did want to try of the heavier blade, even if it wasn't her style.

She's seen blades like that, and it would provide something else to talk to so Lexa would have to rely on her social skills, or lack there of.

Kyra had met many boring humans before, it was inevitable really, after meeting so many across the vast lands of Sylira, at some point she would met such people. Though some were worse than others, and even talking to them make the girl want to take a nap. It was too early to say if the stranger was boring, but her eyes weren't..not to Kyra. Tilting her head a bit, she shook it lightly.

"My mother used to tell me that the eyes were the window into a journey of the greatest stories. What stories do your eyes hold?" she asked the woman. The woman seemed different than most of the humans that she had met. Those that were so caught up in their own vanity that they failed to notice anything that didn't directly concern them. This only made her more curious about the woman, and where she had come from. She would imagine that the woman stood out amongst the rest, just as many had said that she did for being different.

"Bastard.." She replied to the woman's question about her weapon of choice. "He called it a bastard...though, perhaps he was referring to his assistant..Now I'm not so sure." It had been quite the sight when she arrived in the shop to purchase the weapon. The young kelvic had first saw it in the home of the men who had kidnapped her. She had used that very weapon to help her to escape and although she lost it during the fight, she decided to purchase her own some time later.

When she entered the weapons smith shop, she was in for a show between him and the blacksmith who worked with him. To this day she still wasn't sure what the fight was about, but it settled down once she entered. "It is a rather silly name for a sword, maybe I should change it?" Kyra could see the wary look in the stranger's eyes when she asked to see her weapon, which was the reason that she had offered hers up as well to show that she wasn't trying to steal it.

The woman certainly was a curious sort, but that was something she shared with the kelvic who was far more curious than she probably should be. "Lexa? I kinda like it...I am Kyra." she replied staring into the woman's eyes. She smiled then, and gently excepted the katana that was handed to her. The light weight and balance of the weapon was familiar and the memories of it's swift and deadly use was still fresh in her mind. Kyra turned away from the woman as she gripped the weapon tightly in both hands and attempted a forward vertical slash. "Do you mind if I test it?"

Blades In The Rising Sun (Lexa Maze)

Postby Lexa Maze on March 26th, 2013, 2:19 am

The woman talked strangely. She seemed rather inquisitive. When Lexa made the light remark about her eyes being boring, the woman tilted her head like a cat, and then shook it lightly, as if she was surprised to hear such words. Her next question caught Lexa of guard. What could someone possibly get from looking into Lexa's eyes? They didn't betray anything. At least, she thought they didn't. Now that she had a clearer think about it, she supposed they did often look angry. They often looked cold. Even when she smiled, they remained unchanged. Was this the basis for the remark?

Lexa shifted her vision to the ground and said "I don't know what you want me to tell you.." She muttered feeling a twang of sadness and a nerve was plucked. There was nothing great about any of the stories she could tell. Nothing nobal, brave, nothing that she could boast about. It was all fighting and cowardice. That was the foundation of her past. The only reason she still lived was because she had chosen to run rather than to fight.

She was glad when the subject changed again. The woman told her an amusing story about when she had bought her weapon, the bastard sword. Lexa said "Lets hope he meant the sword." And chuckled lightly imagining the poor assistant.

When she learnt of the womans name, she tested it in her head. It suited her, Lexa though. It was short like hers and it had a nice ring to it. She took the katana gingerly and tested it's balance. "Be my guest," lexa said and then watched as Kyra attempted a slash. It wasn't bad, Lexa thought. She was no expert either, though.

Especially at this bastard sword. It felt very heavy compared to her own blade of choice. It was deadly sharp and very powerful. With the right application, like any weapon, it could deal great power

"You don't have to tell me anything." She said simply. "Some people I've met had great stories about monsters, fantastical magic, and others not so much.. Their stories were of sadness and of lost...and pain. But I thought I would ask, but if you don't want to talk that is fine. I understand..some stories are better left untold."

Kyra had seen and been through a lot in the short three years that she had been alive, much more than anyone, human or otherwise should have been forced to deal with. But she did the best that she could and her survival only made the young kelvic that much stronger. As far as stories went, her own wasn't the greatest, but one that she would tell those she thought wouldn't use it to try and harm her. Trust was hard for her as she grew older, and although she sought companionship, it wasn't easy, she couldn't simply stay with a human just because they wanted it so.

Kyra smiled as the woman chuckled. She supposed it did sound silly, but at the same time it was a strange name to give to a sword, though she couldn't think of any that didn't have a colorful touch to them. She was delighted when the woman gave her permission to test out her blade. Kyra really liked the katana and wished that she could have kept the one that she had borrowed before.

Holding the sword up into the air, she watched as Syna's light reflected off the blade, patches of light flickering with the simplest of movements of the katana. "Have you learn this well?" she asked as she lowered her arm. "Let's give this a try." Kyra smiled weakly as she stepped back, tightening her fingers around the handle of the katana as she took a swing at the woman with it. The swing of the blade wasn't aimed at the woman herself, but the bastard sword that she held. Again the young kelvic moved, taking a step closer and bringing the katana up and over into a horizontal slash towards her training opponent.

Blades In The Rising Sun (Lexa Maze)

Postby Lexa Maze on March 28th, 2013, 5:55 am

Lexa thought it was a bit ironic that the woman asked for her past, yet wouldn't even tell of her race. Still, the subject had passed now hadn't it, and there was nothing more to be said. She could tell the woman wanted to give the blade a try, so she would ready the bastard sword., and drop herself into a offensive stance. Her katana was a beautiful blade, she was glad to have found someone who sold them when she was in Sylirus, heavier blades didn't suit her style as well. But maybe that was because she'd never trained with one.

The light peaked throughout the leaves, and cast speckled flecks of yellow over the two woman. The blade's flashed brilliantly in the warm glow of the rising sun. Kyra issued the challenge and Lexa was happy to accept. The first swing was only aimed at the blade, so it didn't really need to be blocked. Lexa immediately began looking for the follow up and brought the bastard sword up to meet the blade, mid slash. She knew the katana's basic movements. The wielder usually spun and danced while using it. Maybe there was a side of beauty to fighting.

Lexa geared up to retaliate. He first instinct was slash, but this sword seemed more suited to thrusting, and hacking. So lexa stepped forward and thrusted the sword outwards, making sire to keep control over the blade so she was less likely to do any serious damage should she not be able to deflect it. She let a grin fall over her face. She hadn't had anyone she could engage in battle in a long time. Much to her mothers dismay, it still made her feel alive, strong.
