Far below the water's surface is the living coralline city of the Charodae, Charbosi. Inaccessible to those who cannot breathe underwater, Charbosi is a city of culture and peace. [Lore]

Fall 72nd 506 AV

Luradin had heard what class he was taking today the day before and he had barely gotten any sleep over it in excitement. Though he often preferred physical education to the theories and arithmetic this would almost certainly help him to aspire to what he wanted to become, sea navigation would see him through his life Of the Faleyk Gulf he lived in and even the mighty Suvan sea one day, he just knew it.

He ate his breakfast quickly enough for his parents to warn him about feeling ill and burst out of the house just as quickly, rushing towards school. His strong little legs moved simultaneously with his body to power him through the water and he swam above the main way everyone went as he knew someone would complain about him knocking into them if they got in his way.

He heard a jeering and laughing on his way and looked down to some of his school 'mates' that were looking up at him with looks of bemusement and judgement - everyone knew that Luradin wasn't like them and they often teased him for it. Luradin said he didn't care (which was a lie) and continued to swim hurriedly towards his school.

He was the first into the room that the class would be held and sat patiently until the teacher and all the students came in, he sat at the back in the corner not because he'd been forced to - he just preferred it. The lesson began and Luradin paid his full attention to the teacher, which the teacher noticed and grew suspicious of since he knew Luradin.

In the lesson they looked at maps - waterproofed of course - of both their gulf and the Suvan sea, at which Luradin paid particular attention to throughout the lesson. His mind burned the teachers every word into it and he could practically see the maps that were laid out behind his eyelids when he closed them. He stared at the maps and the currents, shallower and deeper water and all of it fueled his imagination but thankfully he could stop it going rampant and distracting him from the rest of the lesson.

The teacher pointed out different currents that winded through both seas, he described the feeling of having the current either behind or in front of you and how you could feel which way you were going by memorizing the currents in that particular sea. The teacher also talked of how to swim through the currents, both into and away from and said that some journeys of the same distance could take up to a week longer if you had to swim into a current as your speed would be greatly reduced and you would tire much easier.

All of this still enticed Luradin's mind and he stared a both the teacher and the maps, watching the currents winding through the seas and imagining the feelings that the tutor described - seeing himself winding through the seas as the person he aspired to be.

As the class went on many of the other students were beginning to bore of the maps and the words of the tutor but Luradin was not. When the tutor was merely repeating himself to the less interested students Luradin brought the maps back to his table and stared at them still - he watched the currents winding through the Suvan and saw the shallower patches, he read every annotation at every detail in the map and did it ten times over, playing memory games in his head again and again until he had basically memorized one of the maps already.

As the teacher dismissed the class Luradin knew he would need more time to study the maps and slipped his copies into the small water-proof bag he had for his school work. The teacher was too busy saying goodbye to the other students to see Luradin and smiled as Luradin approached the door to leave.

"You enjoyed the lesson today by the looks of it Luradin" He sung in the Char language that Luradin was familiar to. Luradin smiled awkwardly and replied with the calmest voice he could, partly not to seem like an excited little child and partly because he was stealing the maps "Yes, sir, it was fascinating to look at the maps and listen about how to navigate". He returned the smile warmly and let him walk out whilst saying "See you tomorrow Luradin". Luradin was just about to swim completely out of the school when the teacher yelled down the corridor "Oh, and don't worry about the maps."

Even though the teacher had already indicated he was fine with Luradin taking the maps home he still felt some need to rush and only narrowly avoided one of the other teachers leaving the school as he swam out as quick as he could. He shot off upwards from the entrance to the school and swam home, he avoided the front door and tried to swim in one of the holes for light in his room.

Resting the maps on his coral table Luradin once again began studying them at once, he had already mostly memorized the first map but the second was still vague in his memory. He cured this vagueness by staring at the map, his brain was practically engraving the shapes and words of the map into itself and his eyes would have felt tired if they did not need to blink. Luradin concentration made him oblivious to the bells that were flying by as he studied the maps.

Memory game after memory game Luradin knowledge of the maps grew and grew until he noticed that it was beginning to fall dark outside of the house. Luradin played another set of mind games, this time with both maps and when he could roughly memorize every curve and shape and word of advice on both maps whilst they were upside down and not visible to him, he decided to take a rest, Luradin decided he would rest before he went out to train like he usually did. He was un-aware that use of the mind could tire him as much as it could in terms of the body and his planned short rest suddenly spanned the entire night.

He rose early before school and placed both maps to the roof of his room, concentrating on the Coral that surrounded the maps he convinced them to grow away from their comfortable flat environment and around the maps, it took him 30 chimes to do so but the early time he had slept the night before still gave him enough time to prepare for school.

Notes :
Luradin is swimming constantly, but I can only give points where you specifically mention it. In cases like this, a Novice level of swimming doesn’t necessarily mean he’s bad at it, you just haven’t earned the points yet. However, increasing levels of Swimming will bring above average ability to move through the water. Otherwise, great thread, as usual.
