The Deepfin Pod

Introduction
Notoriously, the Deepfin pod has been associated with sharks and sharptoothed whales as well as dark magics and practices therof. They are known to prowl the Southern Suvan Sea for underwater ruins, shipwrecks, and unprotected ships to prey upon.

Pod Overview
From their humble beginnings as members of a much larger pod, the Deepfin have become brutal scavengers with dealings among slavers, Zith, and other trash. They practice magic, particularly Leeching, and are usually adept with ranged weapons and unarmed combat, although the combination isn't always the best in massive battles among them and their next conquest.

They have a bad reputation, even among their own kind, but are loved so long as they don't encroach on some of the oldest Svefra laws. They are treated as the oft misbehaving estranged little brother and will always have Svefra come to their defense if they have bitten off more than they can chew, although they may be scolded en mass once the trouble has been averted.

They can be bribed to give assistance to travellers who wish to cross the Southern Suvan, however the Deepfin don't keep to their word and will act as it suits them. More than once they have been pursued for their crimes and lost little in the fighting that follows. They make formidable opponents and teachers, if one wants to learn one of their skills. Prices are usually steep but worthwhile. The rumours of sadism are too often proven true, however, and even a Svefra must be wary of being initiated.

Brief History
The Deepfin were a splinter faction within a larger, now deceased pod. The reason of the split has long since been forgotten, although the Lia of the pod is said to have some great understanding of what occured to have sundered her foremother from her family.

They have sailed the Southern Suvan since their split, never staying in any coastal city for too long and likelier to sail alone rather than in a large group unless they have some reason for doing so. They make dealings with slavers in Eyktol and Falyndar, if they can get their hands on merchandise to sell, and migrate north every Summer to dock in Riverfall to sell some of their finer specimens. They don't participate in the smuggling of illegal merchandise otherwise, however if they get their hands on anything like drugs or alcohol they won't hesitate to overprice and sell it to the first person they meet.

The Deepfin have lived unremarkably since the split, settling in their new lives with a grace and dark wit that makes them enemies more often than allies to the right, or wrong, ship.

Traditions and Beliefs
The Deepfin Pod has always had straightforward traditions and beliefs. They are faithful to Laviku, and only Laviku, and will not suffer any remark about him that is less than favourable. Practitioners of Leeching and Voiding, they often initiate their youths into the practices with a brutality unmatched in most civilised places. They treat their children like gold but are some of the crueler Svefra out there when those children do something their parents and guardians dislike. Children have been thrown overboard for little more than talking back. This is a trait shared among their pod that makes other pods less likely to want to sail with them.

Caran's NoteMight be a work in progress. Still, I'd like some input. :)
