Hadyn accepted the weapon and returned it to the shelf, setting it carefully on the surface. Leda had agreed to purchase a similar blade, which pleased the blacksmith. Turning to face the woman, Hadyn considered her question for a moment before offering a one-shouldered shrug.

"I can have it in two to three days, if that'll be alright." There were other commissions to be processed, being that they adhered to a first come first service set up. "You can pick it up three days from now. Even if I'm not here, just state yer name and the item and the other smiths'll get it to you. As for t'metal, steel is standard for a blade. Iron 'n cold iron will hitch the price, but not much. Your choice, course. I'd be happy to embellish the hilt should y'wish it. Inlaid bone perhaps or tassel."

She walked the floor to the counter, bending over to dig in the shelves for a clean piece of parchment. Once found, the woman stood straight and dipped the quill in ink to pen the order. After writing the girl's name and the type of weapon she held the quill poised over the paper, eyes flicking up to await her response.

[Sultros Blades] Metal for Mettle

Postby Leda on May 5th, 2013, 10:57 am

Leda watched as Haydn returned the estoc to its shelf then followed her to the desk where she took out a quill. It had a white plume which curled around - obviously not an expensive feather, but Leda liked how white it was, in such a dusty environment. It took her a moment to answer the question.

"How much would iron hitch the price?" She asked with a small smile, using the word employed by Haydn, "And if I decided to have the hilt embellished with inlaid bone, would that hitch it further?"

Leda had after all entered the shop with the expectation of spending twenty gold mizas and now she would spend half that... and iron would no doubt make a stronger and better weapon than steel. Even if she could little afford doing anything much greater than that.

"I suppose iron is a stronger blade?" she asked uncertainly after a moment. She really knew little of how such things worked.

"Eleven gold and a silver piece for iron," she answered after a pause. "T'be honest with you, Leda, steel is the better choice. Iron doesn't maintain a sharp edge as long and it'll rust on you if you don't keep a sharp eye to it. Some like it for ornamental purposes and then there are folk who could care less the longevity of the weapon. If it were m'self, I'd keep to the steel and spend your Miza on somethin' else."

She offered the woman a one shouldered shrug, indicating she had no opinion on the matter. If Leda wanted iron then the estoc would have iron. But she had no reason to lie to the customer just to raise the price.

"As for the inlay, I'd be happy to do it free of charge. Bein' that you're a first time patron," Hadyn stated, ready to write when Leda replied. Studying the woman for a tick the blacksmith spoke again, a small smile on her lips. "Y'have any training with a weapon like this?"

[Sultros Blades] Metal for Mettle

Leda didn't say anything immediately and, after a minute, decided to pass over Haydn's questioning of her experience with a small smile.

"A little."

She didn't like to be reminded of her lack of experience, too proud to admit to having none at all - especially to a woman who looked so confident, self-assured and who obviously had some knowledge of fighting. Especially if the last time they met was anything to go by. Leda never got into fights, more the type to run, and it was only very recently that she thought that it might be a nice idea to learn to defend herself. She had no family anymore to hide behind and, though Syliras looked safe, one could never know when being able to use a weapon might come in handy.
Leda therefore decided to shake the question off as quickly as it should prove possible to do.

"As per your suggestion then, I will take the steel. And the bone inlaid sounds lovely. Will that take any extra time?"

"No, still three days," Hadyn replied before cracking a smile. "If you're looking for some training with your blade I'd inquire with the Knights. Squires train civilians sometimes." She paused to assess Leda's reaction. It didn't seem she had a lot of experience but perhaps it was a sore subject.

"I know I could use a bit of practice."

Hadyn finished writing the order up and put the pen down. With a quick glance over the order, she then returned her gaze to her customer.

"Thanks again for your help the other day," she remarked offhandedly, a loose grin on her lips. "Truly."

Leda's ears perked up at the idea of receiving help from a squire or something of a like.

"Oh? Would you, by any chance, know someone who might give me a couple of lessons?" she asked with a little moue, trying to throw it off casually, but quite interested, "I would, of course pay if needed, though I do not have much money."

She nodded at Haydn's thanks.

"Oh. It's alright. We all need a little bit of help at some point and I'm sure that, for all everything that had happened, you couldn't have been more courteous."

There was not enough genuine courtesy in the world though there must be plenty of pretentious politeness, and Leda smiled at Haydn.

"And thank you for the suggestion of taking an estoc rather than a rapier."

Hadyn considered her question, running a hand through loose strands of hair at the crown on her head. Resting her elbow on the counter, she cupped her chin in one palm, looking at the other woman with a thoughtful expression.

"Couldn't say who exactly," she answered at length before snapping her gaze to Leda and pointing a finger at her as she had thought. "But, y'know, the Fighter's Pit near Winthrop Alley offers trainin' for citizens. I honestly don't know much about it. The Knights run the trainin'." She waved a hand in the general direction of the pit. "An' don't worry none about thanking me. 'S my job."

She nodded with a smile. Standing up straight, the brunette smiled kindly, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear.

"Anythin' else I can do for you, Miss Leda?"

[Sultros Blades] Metal for Mettle

Postby Rinn Emris Ohm on May 27th, 2013, 1:19 am

He did it again... he blinked to some random hallway for no apparent reason. A common game for Rinn. Close ones eyes, spin in a circle, and blink! It can be very much fun sometimes. Just beforehand he appeared inside a womans washroom wearing his mask. The woman shreiked and Rinn shreiked back before blinking away. "One has to find some way to amuse oneself when dead." He muttered to himself. Paying no attention to the odd stares given to him by passers by as he floats down the hallway. "Perhaps I should walk to draw less attention?" Asking himself. "Or maybe its the mask..." wiping his face to smear away the soulmist mask, revealing his actual face.

As he wandered, his senses picked up two lovely ladies conversating over near the smithy. What they were talking about was a bit out of earshot, but he decieded to investigate anyway. Blinking only feet away from the two and leaning an arm against the wall facing his body in their direction could possibly have been a stupid idea, but it was slightly amusing to Rinn so he did just that. "Im sorry but can you help me? I believe Ive just died since I'm obviously staring at two beautiful angels." He said in his smoothest, cheesiest tone. Giving off a charming smile... well, as charming as one might be with no pulse.
