Date: Spring 62

Waking up to a constant din outside her arvinta Miria woke up with thoughts of complacency. Feeling mildly amused by the sudden feelings of contentment the Coolwater reminded herself that there was still much to do. The question now was what to do with all the time in a day. All 1440 chimes of it. Opting for a light breakfast today Miria searched around trying to find whatever form of subsistence she might have had on hand. An whole apple and a large piece of bread to go along with it. Biting heartily into the cold wheat Miria laid out her leisure clothes as she worked through her morning routine. Breakfast, dressing up, quick meditative nap and a prayer to both Morwen and Zulrav then Miria was free to go.

Half a bell later Miria was already out of her arvinta in the time some holds of Avanthal would be waking up.
Today was the day! The archer reassured herself once more trying to wrap her head around the new purchase she had in mind. I am to buy a horse and with it I'll... Pausing slightly Miria felt her reason behind purchasing a horse was too weak. “...To hold all my stuff.” Having a pack horse while she went outside meant easier faring for the vantha while she braved the wastes. Not having to carry a bag filled with a tent, cooking supplies and other provisions was of importance! Yet now that she thought about it she needed camping supplies as well.

Shaking her head slightly disheartened Miria realized just how far from prepared she was from being an established huntress. “I've got a lot to learn before I'm going to need a horse.” Smiling abashed Miria simply sighed at the accumulating costs. Perhaps she would be able to settle the hunting supplies and other necessities this season buy the horse come summer and THEN figure out how to set up shop. That was if Miria wasn't a fledged Icewatch member already. “I'll figure it out. Eventually.”

Walking through Avanthal's snow paths Miria was well on her way cutting through the Frozen Falls Market. Looking as if she were hiding a secretive smile Miria was playing around with an idea related around storytelling. Wondering if her idea had any merit the Coolwater tried telling a story just by relaying her actions.

Pressing through Avanthal Dira deep. Heading to The Menagerie. Dressed up all warm. With my scarf all tinted green. Merchants shouting next to me. Probably should have listened I missed a bargain on fleece. Fleece... Hmm no good. Hey! That's a new face! Wonder what he has to sell.

A glint in the distance helped catch the archer's attention seeing the man offer an uncommon commodity in Avanthal. Metal! Selling weapons and other associated items that went along with it Miria was impressed by the wide selection that the man offered. Looking up Miria was given a welcoming grin before being subjected to the trader's sales pitch. “I thank Morwen for giving me safe passage through your tundra. I have the privilege to provide you noble Vantha with the chance to arm yourself in various ways.” Smiling back Miria felt slightly flustered as she listened intently to what the merchant had to say. The vantha had a bow and a blade already. What more could she possibly want?

“Looking for that special something for that special someone you hold dear?”

Why... that sounds like something I would be interested in!

“Well look no further! I am the merchant for you! With me today are newly refurbished personal safety arms to for you to give to your loved ones.”

Grimacing slightly Miria started showing a bit of disinterest at the way the man's speech was going. The slight tell was not lost as the man quickly redoubled his efforts on a new prepared response.

“Or! Or... buy them for yourself to defend those you hold dear.”

A smile followed showing that the archer was once again interested as Miria found herself once again mesmerized by the trader's words.

"Are you interested by chance madame?”

Hesitating slightly Miria took a tic before realizing that she was in fact the one the man was referring to. There was not another person learning in to get a better look at the merchant after all.

“Perhaps. What have you to offer?”

Tilting her head forward and noticing the very extensive and now that she thought of it, heavy weaponry the man had Miria gave a concerned look at the trader. Miria was not sure if she could readily carry something so heavy.

“I see you already have a short blade available. So how about this?”

Anxious green eyes went up to see a rather thin yet sharp blade. Raising a eye up in response Miria found herself intrigued but on the whole unconvinced about the razored ordeal.

“What makes you think I would use this?”

Not knowing an abundance on the subject of weaponry Miria found the blade offered appealing in a way but did not understand why he would offer such a thin weapon for her. With one hand on the hilt and another near the edge of the rapier the man then made a few practice swipes testing the metal's weight before offering Miria a turn holding the pointy metal stick. The weight of a metal weapon was definitely there despite the size and the archer found herself surprised by the integrity of the rapier. It was light and balanced yet still felt like it was strong despite it being so light.

Seeing you carried around your bow with such a calm demeanor tells me your already invested in archery. A fine skill for sure but no matter how good you might be you will occasionally have to fight up close and personal. Scratching her head slightly Miria did not really see the point the man was making. Unless the archer was out of arrows she always used the bow no matter what. Pursing her lips Miria realizing she had made sense of the buy herself quietly listened to what the man had to say.

“I assume you normally do not like facing people up close correct?”

Miria nodded. That was a given. “Of course.”

“Well with this weapon you don't have to! You can still keep your distance and still attack. Here. Allow me to demonstrate.”

Giving the rapier back to its owner Miria watched as the man tried to show off the positive qualities of the rapier. Hopping back and forth, constantly thrusting out and retreating back quick as a man who normally trades can. The scene earning him a slight chuckle from Miria who was not quite sure of what to make of the act. Did she look like that when she was selling her arrows?

“So how about it? Do you find yourself convinced enough to take this weapon off my hands? It is a fine piece of craftsmanship I assure you.”

Putting a finger to her lips in though Miria considered the need of such a weapon before looking back at the rapier aptly. It looked to be a fine if not thin blade. Tapered to a fine tip at the end and it looked like she could push it out a fine distance to attack the archer had only one concern.

“I see what you mean. I can see myself flitting around poking people that come to close but I still have one last concern.”

Not too long ago an impression was left on her skin as she felt the bitting of an axe that came much too close for comfort. Bringing her hands up Miria rubbed at her arms consciously remembering how the sensation felt in her arm.

“I do not think I can use that to actually block can I? Attacking from far away is wonderful but I am more interested in not getting hurt first and foremost.”

Nodding his head in agreement the trader gave a somewhat taken aback by Miria's observation.

“Very keen. You are correct however and the customer is always right!”

Rummaging through a small pile close to him the man managed to drag out what looked to be a piece of wood out of his stock.

“How about this then?”

Looking at the circular piece of hardwood Miria recognized it as a shield of sorts. Made from whatever hardwood was available and reinforced by parts metal in some areas.

“I thought you wanted me to buy the rapier?”

“Well if you want to also block you use both of them together. Both in union makes for quite a defensive guard.”

Knocking on the piece of wood the trader went on about how the pair worked. The rapier to attack from a distance and to dance back when they countered. The archer liked how he worded that. Dance back. Then to use the shield to block any wayward blow that cannot be avoided.

“Would you like how it works?”

With a smile and a nod Miria quickly took the offer to see another performance.

“Of course!”

So with a small flourish the man went on highlighting the key points of the pair to with Miria giving plenty of encouragement along the way.

“...Then you bring it up like this. Feinting slightly until... Hooo! Hah! And that!”

By the end Miria found herself clapping excitedly at the trader's performance. Truly the archer was enthusiastic seeing another willing to put up a small show for the sake of a sale.

“Very nice! Very nice. That was a lovely performance. You have went above and beyond. How much for the pair?”

Hearing the price Miria gave a subdued sigh obviously intimidated by the high price. Looking around the stall Miria's right hand slowly rested on the hilt of her gladius. Trying to calmly convince herself that the offer was suitable Miria tried to see if there was anything else of interest for the archer to buy.

“Give me some time. I'll consider what you had to say and give you a counter offer yes?”

A quick dash of crimson followed by a pleasantly surprised yellow, Miria's eyes lighted up seeing the small stacks of arrows the man also had available.

“What about these?”

“Those in particular twenty for set. Then fifteen for the ones besides that. Then the piles to the side over there are four and three apiece.”

Hearing the outlandish prices Miria gave a nonplussed look at the declaration.

“That can't be right! A batch of arrows usually cost only one gold rimmed Miza. These prices are outlandish!”

Worried viridian eyes regarded the other as Miria was unsure if the man was perhaps joking.

“They are dear. What you are looking at are specialty arrows designed for a very specific role. These arrows are weighted down to pierce holes in tough armor. These blunted to shoot small game and not ruin the meat. These whistle through the air over great distances. This is only a small selection but there are even some arrows that can be used to hold messages.”

Having only used the standard form of arrows Miria was surprised to say the least upon hearing of some of the more unique uses some of the arrows had. Granted Miria recognized some of the odd shapes from her initial buy of her fletching kit but when she made her arrows Miria did not realize that those odd shaped arrowheads were to make these specialized arrows.

“Very interesting. How much did you say these two were?”

Pointing at the game arrows and the broad heads Miria settled for buying the two that looked the simplest to study. Nodding slightly at the prices Miria went and fetched the required amount before putting the arrows in her backpack.

Seeing this the merchant found the initiative for another possible sale. Going into another pile in his stall he fetched what looked to be a quiver before going back to Miria.

“I noticed you don't have a quiver either. How about buying one of mine? Standard market price for these. It has no metal. Twenty Mizas and you don't have to go digging into your backpack anymore for arrows. Sounds like quite a good investment. ”

Smiling slightly Miria could not helped but be swayed by the man's ministrations. This final act of what the Coolwater perceived as careful consideration about another person's needs was enough to persuade Miria to go ahead with the sale.

“Alright sounds like a deal. Make away with the shield add in a weapon harness, a practice rapier, a standard set of arrows and we are all set.”

“You are reconsidering the shield? Are you sure?”

“Yes. It would be quite an odd piece to carry along if I am to hold my bow correctly.”

“Ah... I see. Well I won't argue with you there. It's a shame though. This shield has been heated very well before it came to me. Sad to see it miss a sale.”

A confused look appeared on Miria's face to which told the trader explain further.

“My cousin made it before I left I-”

“Actually I'm not sure what you meant by heated.”

“Ah excuse me.”

Listening to an explanation of leaving the wood over a fire to further harden the material as they whittled it down Miria listened with apt interest at the possible method. Asking specifics Miria found the process genuinely interesting as she thanked the man for sharing.

“A sale and some trade secrets. It was nice talking to you. Now I suppose comes your favorite part?”

“Thank you for your patronage Miss...”

“Miria.”

“A pleasure.”

“Like-wise.”

[Frozen Falls Market]You have everything that I'll ever need

Lingering for another chime trying to get her equipment in order Miria tried to get used to the new weights on her waist and shoulder before setting forth. It was an odd arrangement needless to say. One that she would have to be solved as soon as the chance presented itself. Looking back at the
Menagrie Miria made a face seeing that once again she stopped herself from buying a horse to carry her belongings. Perhaps next season she will have enough to purchase a Frostmarch. Granted taking care of a horse was another big responsibility for Miria to consider. So perhaps waiting another season was a good choice.

Making her way back to her arvinta Miria set everything she had on her persons. Strew all across her bed Miria slowly went to try on her new quiver. Feeling the mild layer of extra leather across her shoulder Miria went for the standard arrows twenty arrows the mechant sold her and placed them in her quiver. Quickly going for the weapon harness next she retied the piece on her waist before quickly removing it once more. Instead Miria just went for her bow, holding the familiar piece of wood in her hands the Coolwater's eyes shone it's confident orange.

Looking back at the her quiver and her bow Miria merely shrugged as she rummaged through her backpack and found two gold mizas to put into her pocket. Walking around silently in her room Miria made up her mind when it came to her choice of organization. From then on that was what she would have on hand on a normal day. Just two mizas for whatever she needed for that day and her bow and arrows to walk around with. She would have to carry around some extra bowstrings just incase also.

Shrugging slightly Miria looked to her backpack placing whatever extra arrows she had strewn around her room and the fletching kit she had into the bag before throwing it over her shoulder and readjusting the strap. Marketdays or days when she would be out making arrows outside that's all she would need to carry. Though she would probably be carrying at least ten mizas on the off chance she might need some extra supplies or if she saw something of interest in the market.

Going for the weapon harness once more Miria tied the straps around her waist feeling the slightly burden. Quickly putting on Laforte's gladius to it's usual position Miria eased her right hand over the pommel of her gladius. Looking at her hunting supplies Miria mentally emptied her bags as she readied her hunting equipment. Reaching over and picking up her rapier with her right hand Miria quietly put away the rapier on the opposite side. That would be her hunting attire. Just incase she happened across something dangerous and ran out of arrows. Though hopefully that won't happen anytime soon.

Easing her bag off Miria cleaned up the slight mess she made in her bed before making her way out of her arvinta. Waved off by a hopping hare Miria left Honey with the usual feed before exiting Coolwater Hold. It was the usual trip to the archery ranges as Miria found herself trying to get used to the new burdens on her left side. Making her way up a slight incline up a small snow mound Miria stopped as she found herself at what felt like a fork in the road. Further down that way the archery range was in its usual place. Almost out the way if she thought about it. Then there was the alternative.

The recently opened training stadium seemed to stand out to the archer. As if it's presence was hiding until recently. The pressure from the trainers there did not really bother her. Nor did the possibility of trying out for the Ice Watch. Pursing her lips slightly Miria lingered atop the mound before making her decision. The slight chink coming from her waist urged her forward. Turning to her left Miria went to learn from the instructors from the stadium.
