This northernmost city is the home of Morwen, The Goddess of Winter, and her followers who dwell year round in a land of frozen wonder. [Lore]
David Arnim steps outside of his warm and humble cottage into the snowy streets of Avanthal. He wore his everyday clothing underneath his studded leather armor and skullcap. Taking a breath of the frigid air he turns to the cottage door and locks it. Today like every other day he was on the look out for work, being a mercenary meant he had to be diligent for a potential job. He had a few loyal customers who enjoyed his services when venturing outside the city, he would be on the look out for them today.
After walking about the snowy city streets for a bit and saying hello to a few of his acquaintances he begins to ponder if he should just go to a tavern and relax for the day. Before he could decide ether way someone taps him on the shoulder. Upon turning to see who had tapped his shoulder he is met with the sight of a familiar Vantha women."Hello David, I am in need of your services once again." she says to him with a warm smile. She wore warm clothing and had a backpack with art supplies poking out.
David gives a smirk upon recognizing the repeat customer. He had not seen her in some time."Indeed you are, what do you require of me ?" he asks the customer as people pass by them in the street."I require protection once again, I wish to paint more landscape around Avanthal." she says to him."A job such as this would cost three gold rimmed Mizas." he says to the artist."I can assure that the price of my services is worth it considering how dangerous it can be out in the tundra." he says trying to convince her the price is right."The price sounds fair considering the job." she says being convinced by his sales pitch and past record.
David smiles at the artist."Excellent, I will meet you at the main gate." he says before turning away from her."I must retrieve a few things from my home." David says before he begins walking down the snowy street. The cold air nipped at his face as he walked down the snow covered street with haste. He had to retrieve both his sword and shield before venturing out into the tundra.
After passing by a few more acquaintances and saying hello he comes to his cottage's front door. After unlocking the door and entering his home he walks over to a large chest next to his cozy bed. After grabbing his sword and shield he exits the house locking the door behind him.
After trudging through the snow of the streets once more he finds himself at the eastern gates. Upon spotting the Vantha woman who had hired him he walks up to her."Are you ready to depart ?" he asks the woman."I am." she simply says with a nod. The two of them then exit through the gate and leave the city.
As they trudge through the tundra snow the woman looks for a good spot to set up. They were a good ways away from the city when David hears something. He looks over his shoulder to see a man cover in snow sporting a short sword. The man was obviously a bandit thug who had been hiding so that he may pounce on a passer bye. David spins around to face the aggressor, he draws his sword and raises his shield in a defensive manner."Unless you wish to die I suggest you leave." he says to the bandit.
The bandit continues to run forward obviously not afraid of David. The bandit raises his sword in the air and begins shouting his battle cry."So be it !" David yells at the bandit. Upon closing the distance the bandit swing his sword at David's head. David quickly raises his large wooden shield and blocks the attack. Using his free hand David swings his long sword at the bandit's side, but the bandit jumps out of the way of his attack. Daivd continues to face the bandit as the Vantha woman looks on in horror. The bandit rushes forward once again and swings his short sword at David's shield arm. David blocks the attack with his shield but this time he bashes his attacker with his wooden shield in an attempt to stagger him. The bandit steps back away from the shield before jumping forward to slash at David's side. The attack gets through but David's armor protects him for the most part against the sword swing. David raises his long sword and quickly slashes down onto the Bandit's shoulder badly cutting him. The bandit steps away from David and gives a low growl. He had obviously not expected David to be any good with a sword.
David decides now is the time to go on the offensive. He runs forward with his shield half raised and swings his sword at the bandit's head. The bandit blocks the swing with his short sword but David bashes him with his shield. The bandit quickly regains balance only to be met with another attack from David. David swings his sword at the bandit's leg and slashes him good before knocking him over by hitting him with his shield. The bandit falls onto his back now bleeding from both his leg and shoulder. The bandit goes to raise his sword in an attempt to slash David's legs but promptly gets the sword kicked out of his hand. David puts the tip of his long sword to the bandit's chest and stares into his eyes with a great intensity before stabbing the bandit through the heart. He killed the bandit because it would have been to dangerous to leave him alive.
After sheathing his sword David notices that he is bleeding from his side."Going to need to get that covered." he says to him self as the adrenaline from the fight wears off. David then looks over to the Vantha woman who he had been hired by."Well, no sense in staying here." he says as he trudges through the snow past the artist."Not enough good scenery." he says with a smirk. The woman nervously nods and they begin searching for a place to set up.
Notes: Compared to your first thread, this was definitely the better one. Your work on the details with David’s battles have improved. However, now I would like you to try and get better on the details outside the fight. I understand that this was a job thread which was geared for showing him do his work, but there are tons of ways to make a job thread better and more interesting for the readers.
With that out of the way, good work from you David!
True nobility lies in being superior to your former self
