Miles looked around his 20x20 apartment and realized how empty it is. Though their is plenty of room to work, the place still seemed like it could use some furniture or decoration. Then he observed the walls and noticed that their is absolutly nothing on them.
From there Miles decided that the apartment needed shelves. It would look alot nicer with atleast a shelf hanging on the wall. Miles sat at the table and ate a few balanced rations as he continued to look around. He thought about what he would need and remembered how his mentor would use chalk to mark measurements. This technique will make his measurements alot more precise.
Miles finished eating and headed out towards the great bazaar to get his supplies. He walked through the crowds slightly pushing them out of his way so he could to where he was headed. Finally he made it to a stall that sold parchements, paint, ink and a large array of other things.
Behind the stall stood a well groomed man in his early thirties. "What can I get you?" the man said loudly over the crowd. "I just need five pieces of chalk" Miles responded as he slides five copper mizas across the table of the stall and the man happily hands Miles the chalk.
After putting the chalk in his bacpack, Miles continues wondering around the bazaar. Making his way through the crowd, he see's a large amount of lumber piled up behind a specific stall. Miles approched the stall and says I need twenty-five pounds of locally cut lumber." The man who happened to be isur simply said "It will be five gold mizas." Miles hands him the mizas as he his given the lumber.
Miles heads back to his apartment with his newly purchased chalk in his bag and twenty-five pounds of lumber on his shoulder. He carries the wood with out a sweat as he opens the door and lays it on the floor, against the wall. Miles thinks about how he will construct the shelf and decides how he could make it.
Next he picked out two boards and examined them for a moment. "These will do" he says to him self as he lays them on the table with the ends hanging off. He then grapped the saw out of the chest by his bed and got to work.
Miles started by setting the two boards on top of each other and leaving a small mark on the edge of the top board with a peice of chalk. He puts the blade of the saw on the chalk marking and starts cutting through both of the boards. Soon the cut wood falls to the floor, each of them being around two feet long. Ofcourse the boards are slightly different lengths with a very slight slope at the end, they would still work as the base.
The next step is to cut two triangular peices in order to hang the shelves and keep items from rolling off the sides of it. Miles sees that he had already made a mistake and did'nt want to make another one. Other wise the shelf would not be useable. So he made another mark and carefully cut a pair of triangle shaped pieces of board.
Now that the peices were cut, Miles grabbed his nail hammer, nails and carpenter's mallet. He began to nail the boards together and construct the shelf. Though it isn't the worst anyone could have done, it still has alot of rugged edges and bent nails. seeing that the shelf needs atleast some improvement; Miles grabs his Carpenters mallet and hammers the sides of the shelf in order tighten up the boards.
Finally finished with the shelf, Miles sits back in the chair looks around the room for any othe projects that need to be done. Ofcourse he still has twenty pounds of lumber to work with.
