A half-collapsed city of alabaster and gold fiercely governed by Eypharians. Even partially ruined, it is the crown of the desert and a worthy testament to old glories and rising powers.

Play to your strengths

Davin walked along the ruined streets in the Pillars of Dust in heavy thought. He had been attempting, and failing, to emulate Desh's ability to cut purses and pick pockets, for the better part of a week. In all of his attempts he was caught, and had to run or hide to escape pursuers. He had succeeded so far, but he knew his luck would run out soon. He needed to rethink this. He was a decent liar, and could play the roles of many different people. He had for most of his life.

And, loathe as he was to rely on the skill, he had been forced to learn how to morph his body in order to appear Eypharian. He had used the skill sparingly, once for a rather extreme bout of revenge, but beyond that, little. He didn't want to end up like Master, the cruel wizard who taught him. In fact, if he wasn't a morpher, he would have easily held a hatred for all magic users. Not many could blame him, after what he had went through.

Despite his own misgivings, however, the truth of the matter was that he had an ability that would help significantly in his disguises. He could actually be an old man, or a young boy, or even a woman, if he was feeling up to it. He could appear as anyone. He could even be an Eypharian if he wanted. He wouldn't have to put up with the discrimination of merchants anymore.

Still, for all the perks, Davin just did not find the idea appealing. Morphing was always odd. It was like... he enjoyed it while he was doing it, but felt a bit of shame and disgust afterwards. And he could never really forget the horrors he had gone through to obtain those powers.

As he pondered his choices, he came to familiar bit of rock, and sat down. His feet had begun to hurt, and he wanted to mull things over for a bit.

He watched the rabble and picked out different faces, imagining what it would be like to have those faces, instead of his own. How would he use it? How would morphing help him out anymore than his own skills of disguise and trickery? Sure, it might make it harder to recognize in the future, but he didn't have that problem now, why worry about things that just don't happen?

But then, he remembered the night he had turned into a horrific beast. It was to scare an Eypharian that had cheated him. And he had done that quite well. It had been exhilarating at the time, that feeling of power, but now he only thought of how foolish he'd been. He had been in Jackal territory. And while the form had given him some extra strength, it wouldn't have helped him against the Jackals blades.

He let out a heavy sigh, and looked on the passerby. Women, children, men, all of them were potential faces. He could be anyone, and he'd never be suspected. That power...it just wasn't shunned that easily. He sat there, just looking on, until the sun passed overhead and began to set. Finally he made a decision.

He had suffered, true. But if he did not do anything with that power, he had suffered for nothing. And besides that, his father would do anything in his power to get revenge. If Davin was going to beat him at that game, he needed every advantage he could get.
