“Er… never mind,” Ulric mumbled. He was definitely going insane. The sooner they reached Syliras the better. A meal, a warm bed and a – no, definitely not a warm body beside him – and perhaps he’d feel more like himself. He was still troubled by the knight’s corpse, but their encounter with the bear had put everything into perspective. Ulric was a murderer; he lived every day with the fear of being tracked down and brought to justice. But the thing was, there were dangers enough outside his sphere of paranoia. It wasn’t as if the Ebonstryfe was going to venture into the heart of Syliras on his account; he had more to fear from slavers and knights. Or colds, Ulric thought, sneezing. Maybe he was allergic to horses. “I don’t suppose we’re near the city,” he said. Ulric was unsure how he might react to a glimpse of the walls and towers of Syliras after traveling all this way, but he hoped he wouldn’t cry. That would just be… embarrassing.

"Not quite," Sam said, glancing at Ulric and then quickly away. "But we will get there." Sam grew quiet then, walking between Horse and this strange man with hidden depths he wasn't sure he wanted to plumb. Most like they would get to Syliras and part ways. He wondered if he would ever see him again. END
