OOC Info [Riverfall] Take The Plunge!

Feel free to post any and all OOC chatter for Riverfall and Cyphrus here!

(This is a thread from Mizahar's fantasy role playing forum. Why don't you register today? This message is not shown when you are logged in. Come roleplay with us, it's fun!)

Built into the cliffs overlooking the Suvan Sea, Riverfall resides on the edge of grasslands of Cyphrus where the Bluevein River plunges off the plain and cascades down to the inland sea below. Home of the Akalak, Riverfall is a self-supporting city populated by devoted warriors. [Riverfall Codex]

Ooo, we're doing kitties? Here's another one!

In other news, just a quick reminder to everyone to get their job threads in order! This coming Sunday is the start of a new season, and for any thread grades to be assigned after that date, you must have your seasonal expenses withdrawn from your ledger, which, for many of us, means we need our paycheck first.

For those who don't know, job threads don't need to be graded or even completed, so long as they have the qualifying posts up by the time they're submitted. This doesn't mean you'll be allowed to submit 4 threads each consisting of a single 200-word post though. We allow leniency in terms of thread completion because we know it takes a while to finish threads, but don't try to pull one over on us.

As an additional reminder, any jobs themselves must be cleared by an ST either by PM or (preferably) through the Labor Aide.

Last but not least, this season, we'll be changing the format of job thread submissions, so oldbies, listen up! In the past, job threads were either submitted to the grading queue or PMed to Goss. Starting this season, you must instead post in the job records thread with the included form filled out. Any job threads PMed to an ST (unless you have some manner of question about them) will be discarded, and you will not receive your wages and XP until you post in the appropriate place. Given that it's less than a week before the season ends, you can start posting your requests there as soon as you have them ready.

We hope to make the submission process as orderly and efficient as possible, so if you have any feedback, please let us know.

Hey everybody, it's your friendly neighborhood Magpie again, with another reminder about the updates we all need to make around the season change.

In addition to your seasonal wages, living expenses also need to be deducted from your ledger. For those who may not know, Riverfall requires a minimum living standard of Common. In addition to this, I want to also reiterate Gillar's announcement from March on the subject:

Basically, if you're making a significant amount of money per season, as in above 500-600, you shouldn't still be living in "Common" conditions. That's like a wealthy merchant going home to live in a threadbare shack - it's just not logical. That's about the time you want to be bumped up to "Good" living conditions. If you're right around 600gm/season, and I know we've got a few people there this season, you're in that gray area where you don't have to move up if you don't want to. Essentially, anyone in a very well-paying job or at an L3 skill level in their job should be at Good living conditions (or even above, for the absurdly wealthy).

Hello Rivarians! Hopefully we've got a few more watchers lately, because we've got a pair of important announcements today!

First off, a new thread, the Newcomer's Checklist has been stickied to the top of Riverfall. This little thread is a quick and dirty checklist of everything a PC should do upon arriving in Riverfall. Most everyone here now has done these things, so it's mostly for actual newcomers. However, the point on there about housing talks about our new housing policy, which I detail in my second announcement:

~

As most of you know, there has been a bit of a flurry lately regarding Riverfall's housing policy, particularly in regards to cashing out one's housing for that extra 500gm. After some discussion, here is the final word on the matter, which isn't much of a policy change, more of a clarification after realizing we've been policing it incorrectly:

From now on, the default housing option in Riverfall is to own, not rent. You may own a cottage or apartment, using your 500gm housing package to buy it when you move in. The price to buy an apartment is on the fees tab of the respective housing development location page. Standard 20'x20' cottages are still 500gm.

This is not to say you can't rent; however, it's not going to be very cost efficient for you if you rent for the whole season. Rent is not considered part of seasonal living expenses, and so the daily rent specified on your housing development's page must be paid in addition to your seasonal expenses. Renters may cash out their 500gm and use it towards rent.

Bear in mind: If you decide to move to a different house, or a different city, owning your house allows you to sell it and get your 500gm back, presumably to use on a new house wherever you're going. If you cashed out your housing in order to rent, you will not get that money back. It looks nice to have that extra 500gm in your purse, but in the end, it makes much more financial sense to use it to buy a home.

Finally, we have a couple small policy changes to make sure we keep track of who's renting, since they should be in the minority. If you have on your CS that you've cashed out your housing, you must have "Renting at" in front of your place of residence. At season-end, you must have your rent as a separate line item from your seasonal expenses. Lastly, don't be surprised if we message you to find out what situation has you renting. We just want to make sure everybody knows what they're getting into.

~

As a final word, if you intend to start owning your apartment given the above policy, deduct those 500gm from your ledger now. No need to declare it IC unless you want to. We're considering adoption of this system a requirement for receiving thread grades (since deducting seasonal expenses is already a grading requirement), so if you want to be in on the action when we blaze through the grading queue this weekend, be sure to get those changes in as soon as possible.

If anyone has any questions about the above policy, feel free to post here or let me know in a PM. I don't want anyone to feel flustered with these changes; we really do believe they're for the best and I'm more than happy to talk them through with anyone who isn't sure what's going on.

GURRRRL

Break out the curlers and the nail polish, Beautyfest is coming!

Women, put on your best, and men, get those beads ready! On Beautyfest, every woman in the city is living the high life with free pampering while trying to get as many beaded necklaces as they can from the men of the city. Men, do you need any other reason to be out in the streets on the 68th?

While the day is a time of relaxation and primping, the night's where the real party's at! Drinking, dancing, and more than a little romance if you're lucky.

And the best part - Every woman who competes gets a prize! That's right, just for getting out there and trying to get a couple beads, you get to take home a lovely prize that's been picked out especially for you. Keep your eye on that prize table though - picking a prize starts with the Queen of Beautyfest and goes down in order of the number of beads attained. So get those beads, ladies, and make sure no one takes that special something that's caught your eye!

But before you start planning your wardrobe (if you haven't already), just wanted to give everyone fair warning: Only PCs registered in the city prior to the start of the event may participate. If you're in Riverfall, you should be registered anyway, but here it's a requirement.

Signups will run from Sept. 13th to the 27th, and the event will kick off the 28th. There's more details we haven't revealed yet, and the prize list will be posted with signups this Friday.

I can't participate, but if I whine loud enough could that night of dancing and debauchery happen on the beach? I think Uleru would find great amusement in tormenting the new couples and might just coheres someone into dancing with her.

Or is this event going to be played out like a quest with linear "set pieces" (for lack of a better or more nerdy term) in which case I should just bugger off? :p

We were actually thinking of having the main event on the docks, if that works? If not, I'm sure a few lovebirds will be retreating to the sand to get away from the crowds...

I'm really hoping we can get just about the whole city in on this, so I'd be happy to shift a couple details around so you can participate :)

The docks work just fine! Thanks for the consideration, that's really the only adjustment I'd need. Can't wait to get this party started. :D
