Kenash's local healing services - for either Dynasty members or slaves.

This lazy agricultural settlement rests on the swampy shores of the Middle Suvan at the delta of The Kenash River. The River's slow moving bayou waters have bred a different sort of people - rugged, cultured, and somewhat violent. Sprawling plantations of tobacco and cotton grow on the outskirts of the swamp in the rich Cyphrus soils, while the city itself curls around the bayou and spawns decadence and sins of all sorts. Life is slower in Kenash, but the lack of pace is made up for in the excesses of food and flesh in a city where drinking, debauchery, gambling, slavery, and overbearing plantation families dominate the landscape.

The Mortal Solace

Perhaps the closest thing to a medical care facility in all of Kenash, the Mortal Solace stands in the heart of the city for convenience. The one-story building to its place on Dry Island Plaza, seemingly out of place surrounded by grand structures around it. A small garden is laid out in front of the clinic, cut off from the general populace by low iron fences. Colorful plants and herbs decorated the green. The glass doors of the clinic are usually closed snugly, preventing anything unwanted from coming in. Light could be easily seen at all times inside, for the business opens for almost 24 bells a day and someone will always be stationed inside. Though the exterior could be deceiving. The place is designed to suit the taste of the people in Kenash. One will probably never expect that the interior is almost an opposite of the rough outside.

ImageComing through the doors, the customer will step into what is called the Waiting Room. It is set in such a way that mirrored a comfortable living room - maybe a bit too much. Windows decorated the area, making the space seem lighter, more open, designed for patients' comfort. A long front desk is placed at the back side of the room, piled with books and papers - records - in an organized manner. The slave in charge of manning it changes regularly - it could be a hardened Benshiran male, a delicate-looking Konti, or a young girl with brown hair. Either of the employee will kindly ask any visitor to state their business if possible or rush in search of the doctor in an emergency. Two identical looking doors stood on either side of the room, the left side leading to the Healing Room, the other to the doctor's office - where all the seriousness are stored.

Several feet behind the front desk, the room is cut off by thick, blue curtains, concealing the space behind it. Nothing mysterious back there though, simply where the masseuse can work and where the employees rest if possible. The clinic is the closest place to living quarters for them. When there are no customer, the slaves are allowed to hang back there or eat or do anything that might be necessary, really.

The Healing Room is where most patients are treated, where they can rest if necessary. It is a comfortable space with polished wooden flooring for comfort. A stone fireplace sat stoically against a light-colored wall, exuding warmth for the sake of the patients - who wants to be cold, anyway? This room is able to hold six patients at once. For privacy, each patient's section will be cut off by simple, but elegant silk screens. Every section contains a good bed with clean sheets and bedding, a simple wooden table most likely cluttered with the patient's necessities and a shelf set bolted against the wall, filled with various basic medical supplies and medicines. The office, on the other hand, is not as welcoming. The door is always closed and off-limits to everyone but the owner herself.

The main doctor and the owner, Verena Lorak, will mostly be found either in the Healing Room or her office when things are going slow. Since she hired no other competent help, she deals with all of her patient personally, only giving her slaves minor responsibilities. After all, no slave is good enough to actually be a doctor or a healer.

PoB: Kenash
Job: Personal Slave of Verena Lorak, Doctor's Assistant at the Mortal Solace
Skills: 15 Medicine, 10 Philtering, 5 Herbalism, 5 Agriculture, 5 Gardening
Gnosis: None
Additional Info: The girl was born into slavery in the Whitesnake Plantation. Her mother had died right after giving birth to her, while her father was nowhere around. Bella was left for the other slaves to take care of. Growing up, she had spent most of her life in the fields. Occasionally, she would sneak around, trying to get a glimpse of the Lorak's other business in medicine. The subject intrigued her, but she was a slave and there was no chance for her to learn properly. At least until 14. That year, one her master, a young woman who was not much older than her came around, bringing in all these tools and started treating the sick. She was immediately recognized as Verena Lorak, the sister of Lorana. Bella found it very odd. She watched closely as the woman worked her way with medicine. It had been amazing to watch. Every time the upper-class visited, Bella would follow her around.

Soon enough, she caught the attention of the Lorak. Verena taught her some basics and Bella learned surprisingly quick. Bella was what resembled a doctor among the Lorak slaves. Noticing her talent, after a year or so, Verena decided to move Bella to work at the clinic as her assistant. Bella was amazed and could not stop thanking the young woman. Now, she worked hard in the Mortal Solace, doing small errands for the mistress.

ImageName: Taloe
Race: Konti
DoB: Fall 67th, 476 AV
PoB: Mura
Job: Personal Slave of Verena Lorak, Doctor's Assistant at the Mortal Solace
Skills: Medicine 26, Massage 10, Herbalism 9, Cleaning 5
Gnosis: Healing - 1
Additional Info: This Konti was taken into slavery for about ten years ago. Taloe had been traveling across the Sea of Grass when her caravan was attacked by a gang of bandits. Being one of the few survivors, she stumbled across the land until finally arriving at the gates of Kenash. She didn't know she was about to make a big mistake. Broke and not really understanding how the city works, she was captured and enslaved. During her auction, the Mark of Rak'keli around her right eye had taken the notice of most Dynasties present. Still, as a family of healers, the Lorak simply would not lose the opportunity. They bid high until they could secure the woman as theirs.

As most slaves do, Taloe was plopped down to work out on the fields under the relentless weather. It was hard work and she hated every minute of it. All she could think of was the comfort of her homeland, Mura. Her delicate nature was slowly hardened with each sunrise and Taloe swore that she would get out of Kenash. The Konti was smart enough to know that to force her way out will only result in her death and she chose a more . . . intricate path. Slowly, she gained the trust of the family, moving up as a house slave and into an actual business location. She is deft with her hands and a hard-worker, though she has a rather sharp tongue. Thankfully, her mistress did not care much and so, she was doing quite well at the clinic.

ImageName: Hallan
Race: Human, Benshiran
DoB: Spring 9th, 490 AV
PoB: Yahebah
Job: Personal Slave of Verena Lorak, Masseuse at the Mortal Solace
Skills: Massage 26, Philtering 9, Hypnotism 5, Hunting 5
Gnosis: None
Additional Info: Hallan was found on the outskirts of Kenash and brought in by some freeborns. The young man was heavily injured and unconscious. He would probably be dead if he was left to his fate. Naturally, Hallan was brought into the hands of the best doctors - the Lorak family. Apparently, he did not remember anything before his time in Kenash, his memories locked away at the back of his mind in a cluttered mess. All he knew was that the family had saved his life and that he is indebted to them. A few members of the family opted to simply toss the healing back to where he was found or outright enslave him. Verena, the young Lorak, did not agree. With her devotion to Rak'keli, she was bound not to let any living get hurt. She convinced her sister, the Head, to let him work at her clinic.

More than once, he had proved himself useful for the family and Now, he works at the Mortal Solace, acting as a masseuse or simply an extra pair of hands on particularly busy days. Hallan is completely loyal to Verena and more often than not, insisted to guard her. After some time, it is discovered that the man possessed a bit of magic - Hypnotism. So, he would often be found accompanying the doctor during treatments, helping out to calm a patient. Secretly, the young man harbored a romantic feeling for his mistress ― which she barely responded to.
