A bathhouse - a bathhouse for all!

This lazy agricultural settlement rests on the swampy shores of the Middle Suvan at the delta of The Kenash River. The River's slow moving bayou waters have bred a different sort of people - rugged, cultured, and somewhat violent. Sprawling plantations of tobacco and cotton grow on the outskirts of the swamp in the rich Cyphrus soils, while the city itself curls around the bayou and spawns decadence and sins of all sorts. Life is slower in Kenash, but the lack of pace is made up for in the excesses of food and flesh in a city where drinking, debauchery, gambling, slavery, and overbearing plantation families dominate the landscape.

Ebb & Flow

Founded primarily as a way to keep Apselm out of everyone's hair, the Ebb & Flow bathhouse is a simple establishment located in Kenash proper. The business has evolved into a very basic bathhouse, catering to the needs of freeborn and less high-minded Dynasty members, alike. Apselm is happy to serve either clientele, and his family is happy that he's no longer hanging around preaching peace, tolerance, and acceptance for all.

ImageEntering the Ebb & Flow, you are immediately met with a small staircase. Five steps lead down to the main lobby, where visitors are greeted by very minimal decor. The floors are a simple wooden plank style, polished to a high sheen and swept multiple times daily by the establishment's slave, Wren. There is a simple desk where visitors may view the reservation log and select a convenient time for bathing - if there is no wait, they will be ushered to the appropriate bathing area immediately.

There are doorways both to the left and the right. Bathing suites are separated by gender; to the left are the bathing facilities for men, while an identical set up is available for women on the right. Each bathing room is capable of serving up to four people at a time. Basic toiletries are provided, such as towels, soaps and oils, but Apselm does not stock this merchandise for sale. Windowless rooms are lit by candlelight, and are nearly always extremely humid. Folding wooden screens divide the rooms, giving the illusion of privacy, but there are no actual private bathing facilities available. Apselm has forgone excess luxury in order to maintain a fee that would be reasonable for all of Kenash society. Excepting slaves, of course. Slaves are strictly forbidden from using the bath house, even should their owner wish to fund such an experience.

ImageIn addition to the bathing services, Apselm maintains a rock labyrinth behind the bathhouse. This spiral formation is neatly laid out and meticulously maintained. Walkers are encouraged to visualize their life's goal and use the labyrinth as a means to walk toward their goal. Patrons are welcome to purchase solitary time to walk the labyrinth, uninterrupted by others, or they may utilize it for free, with whomever else happens to wander out. Apselm himself is often there, though he will abandon the labyrinth when it's use has been reserved. His songbirds, however, are not so accommodating, and are nearly always heard trilling a light tune.

If a visitor takes a liking to the birds, Apselm will part with them, on certain conditions. The buyer must have some level of skill in whistling, to facilitate communication, and the birds may only be sold in pairs. Apselm is very firm in this matter, as he views the birds as his children and feels a strong duty to ensure their future happiness.

Apselm
Image Name: Apselm Draer
Race: Human, Svefra
DoB: 1st of Spring, 460AV
PoB: Kenash
Title: Proprieter, Ebb & Flow
Skills: Meditation - 25, Philosophy - 15, Birdkeeping - 10, Whistling - 10
Gnosis: N/A
Additional Info: Apselm is, to put it kindly, a dreamer. Owning none of the competitive drive that marks most Dynasty-born, and being much less elitist, he is a bit of an enigma to his family. When he opted to withdraw from the political machinations of Kenashern society to better achieve a harmonious balance with nature, the Draer Dynasty was all too eager to facilitate it. He has been overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Ebb & Flow bath house ever since.

Apselm can mostly be found methodically walking the labyrinth behind the Ebb & Flow, a beatific smile on his face. On the rare occasions that he is not meditating and walking, he is probably seated on the ground, engrossed in philosophical discussions with his many songbirds.

Slaves
Image Name: Wren
Race: Human
DoB: 19th of Summer, 505AV
PoB: Kenash
Title: Slave of the Draer Dynasty
Skills: Whistling - 15, Impersonation - 10, Observation - 10, Birdkeeping - 5
Gnosis: N/A
Additional Info: Shy and withdrawn nearly to the point of muteness, Wren was selected by Apselm to assist him with the Ebb & Flow after he heard the child whistling in the field. Noting her uncanny mimicry of the songs of the birds he so cherished, he was quick to spirit her away from the plantation, where he felt she would simply waste away. Since she chooses not to speak, and whistles instead, Apselm has half-convinced himself she's just a very large specimen of songbird, and treats her as such - even renaming her 'Wren'.
