The Safe haven Hotel was the same as it had been since Assilsa arrived. The Symenestra had seen many other races around the hotel however, like herself; they had all kept to themselves. Assilsa stood at the foot of her bed looking down at the multiple clothes she had purchased.

They were to become her new uniform, a simple shirt and breeches that Assilsa hopped would help her blend into the surrounding forest. She wondered whether or not her hunting style would change due to her injuries, deciding it against it Assilsa quickly dressed and shouldered her almost empty pack.

As The Symenestra made her way into the main room of The Safe Haven hotel Assilsa waved to the woman behind the desk, Vysia was a kind woman, a bit strict however. Other foreigners entered and exited the building in silence; it was always eerily quiet in the halls of the hotel due to the rules set by Vysia. Stepping into the streets of Nyka Assilsa finally began her first day of ‘work’.
Assilsa’s fragile frame slinked through the crowd resembling a fish going up stream; they all headed in the opposite direction to the gates, towards the centre of town.

Clutching her bag with white knuckles Assilsa pushed her way through until the crowd began to thin out; her last couple of days in Nyka had been trying, the city was always bustling with activity during the day and at night, as she had been warned, it was too dangerous to even set foot into the streets. The armed monks eyed Assilsa as she approached the gates with her pack but let her through without question.

The woods of Nyka filled Assilsa with a sense of new found hope. It’s lack of bright and loud people calmed the Symenestra hunter somewhat. She inhaled the air attempting to gain a sense of direction almost.

Assilsa could taste the salt lacing the air as various form of plants that she recognised from her trip to Nyka. Smiling as she began to untie her boots Assilsa wondered if she would get extra rations in the food she managed to catch. Coming to the conclusion that she would remain receiving scraps, maybe she could gather some extra fruits while hunting.

Her way of hunting wasn’t what those human hunters would call proper hunting, after all deep down Assilsa was a predator, hunting with her claws and senses not with snares and traps. Adding her boots to her pack Assilsa began her search for a tree that she could begin her hunt from.

The search was soon over as she stood before a towering oak, its bark flaking off like a snake sheading its skin revealing the new bark underneath. Its branches formed a canopy with the other trees making it perfect to scale. Tightening the pack around her shoulders Assilsa made a mental note of all the climbable paths though out the canopy and the tree before her. Making a quick check of her wounds Assilsa noted that she couldn’t get carried away with this hunt.

As she took a dozen steps back, the dry foliage crunch cinder her pale feet. She was now ready to hunt, commanding the muscles in her legs to run Assilsa’s eyes began to assess her hunting ground. Her feet only collided with the dry Earth a small amount of times before Assilsa coiled her muscles to jump.

Fretting that she would reopen her wound as she would collide with either the tree or on her way back down. Closing her eyes she expected the worst. Roughness scratched at the pale skin of her hands only moments before the rest of her body struck the trunk. Knocking the air out of her lungs Assilsa held onto the bark for dear life, of course it wasn’t necessary. She had once again forgotten about the hooks in her skin.

Opening her eyes slowly, Assilsa came face to face with two little bug eyes. It blinked one beady eye at a time, slowly but surely the bug crawled out from behind from a loss shred of bark.

“What are you looking at?!”

Assilsa scrunched her nose and hissed, she hated bugs, yet the bug stood its ground, glaring Assilsa blew with all her might attempting to dislodge the bark and hopefully the bug as well. Smiling in satisfaction as the bark clattered down the trunk Assilsa began to climb again. Her claws connected with the bark almost naturally, scaling the tree with an average speed Assilsa soon reached the strongest branched that crossed over others forming a second floor.

Darting across the almost crosshatch pattern that the branches formed, the Symenestran made a mental note of the surrounding trees and of the forest’s floor itself. No game had graced the forests floor whilst Assilsa paced the tops, Assilsa needed something to give to nice cools of Nyka, something to stop her getting dismissed from her first ever job.

Assilsa knew better than to distract herself from the hunt by thinking she had been going so well at climbing and balancing in the tree tops, she had almost been proud of herself until the balls of her feet hit a tree’s bark which had begun to fall away.

As the bark beneath her feet fell from the branch Assilsa fell with it, her clothes catching the wind and her hair whipping around her face filling the Symenestra with fear, a fall like this could small all of her bones killing her the moment she hit the ground.

Assilsa curled into a ball, maybe if she was smaller it wouldn’t do as much damage, save her from possible death… Hopefully. Assilsa hit the ground with a crunch and a small roll Coming to a stop on her back. Pain filled her stomach, legs, arms and back however surprisingly no broken bones, just slightly tearing of her stitches.

Too scared to move Assilsa laid in the fallen leaves feeling her muscles spasm from the shock of falling, lying there in silence the forest began to move around her, birds in the trees and insects crawling around on the trees and ground.

It was a nice environment; Assilsa could see why animals chose it. She soon realised that she was being sniffed, little whiskers tickled her bare ankle. Rolling her head slightly she caught sight of a small, fluffy, brown tail.

Blinking Assilsa attempted not to make any sudden movements, slowly moving her hand to feel for her lash, leaves crunched loudly indicating that the bunny was getting spooked, she had to do something now. Closing her eyes Assilsa stretched her fingers out, she would have to be extremely lucky for this to work.

Snapping into a sitting position Assilsa’s arms shot out to the already fleeing bunny. Beneath her nails Assilsa felt the soft fur bringing her hands together she felt her nails puncture the skin and bone, Finishing off the small catch Assilsa collected the carcass with a tired sigh. All this trouble for such a small prize. Making her way back towards the city of Nyka Assilsa felt a sense of hope, next time will be better.

Delicious rewards! Happy days and jubilation!

Skill XP Awarded
Observation 2
Acrobatics 1
Hunting 1

Lores: Leaving Home At Night Is Attempted Suicide, Nyka Is Just Too Darn Noisy, Kill All The Bugs, That's What I'll Do; Symenestra Are Supposed To Be Clumsy, Right?, Three Bells, One Bunny.

Items and Consequences: A strong suspicion that she was dropped on the head as a child. A nasty bruise across her back; it will heal over the course of two weeks. Assilsa's wounds have opened again. Of course.

A little hard to follow, but pleasant nonetheless. Though I really wonder how she forgot about part of her body- but what the hey. Assilsa doesn't seem to be the sharpest knife in the drawer anyways. Cheers! :)

If you have any questions or concerns about this grade, please PM me. A happy you is a happy Balderdash!
