Built into the cliffs overlooking the Suvan Sea, Riverfall resides on the edge of grasslands of Cyphrus where the Bluevein River plunges off the plain and cascades down to the inland sea below. Home of the Akalak, Riverfall is a self-supporting city populated by devoted warriors. [Riverfall Codex]

Davus stepped out of the Blue Bull tavern, or in truth was kicked out. He hit the pavement head first, his face shielded from the stone that paved street only by an impressive pile of horse dung that lay in the middle of the street "Come back when you are sober!" A voice shouted out from inside the tavern as Davus stumbled to his feet. If he was honest he had just been drinking all night, and most of the morning it seemed as he saw the sun break out from the cover of clouds, already high in the sky. He had no doubt that man he might have head butted was trying to cheat him in a game of cards but he was friends with the barman so the debate on whether he had or not finished rather quickly against Davus. That was when he found himself being chucked outside by a eight foot tall bouncer, and now he found himself wiping crap out of his eyes "By the gods' that stinks" he cursed under his breath, a passerby heckled him "Head to the bath house you tramp"

He set off through the city, stumbling around the workers as they began their day’s work. He felt himself being knocked every which way as he struggled to remain balanced; the influence of alcohol was severely detrimental to his motor control. He saw a mountain of an Akalak walking in the opposite direction, directly in Davus’s path as he struggled to get out of his way. He didn’t get out of the way in time he realized as he was knocked to the ground, and there he stayed for several hours, with passers-by not even bothering to help the unconscious man sprawled out in the middle of the street who stunk to high heaven like a pig pen in the middle of a brewery.

The sharp sting of freezing cold water brought him around to his senses. He tried to sit up and make sense of his surroundings, but all his eye could make out were blurry shapes and his memory remembered nought of the events that transpired earlier. As his vision started to clear he made out a large shape in front him, it belonged to a deep purple Akalak. He was nearly as wide as he was tall, adorned in a shiny steel chainmail bulwark that had clearly been cared for and maintained, he furrowed his thick brow into a frown as he glared at the Sevfra “No loitering drunk, get your sorry arse somewhere I can’t see it” He paused and sniffed the air around him “Or smell it for that matter” He grabbed Davus by the scruff of his neck as yanked him to his feet like he was a child "Now off with you” He barked. Davus obliged, while his hangover had subsided he had been left with a catastrophic headache, unsure if it was from the blow to his head or the alcohol, nonetheless he didn't want to aggravate the throbbing that ravaged his skull.

He turned around, unwilling to argue, and made his way back down the street when a small figure knocked into him.

Timestamp : Afternoon, 65th of Fall, AV 513

The voice came from a small lad, with long mousy brown hair and a devilish face, it featured upturned nose and high arching eyebrows. He was dressed head to toe in nothing less than dirty rags that looked worse the Davus crap stained clothes and his round thin face was blemished with streaks of dirt.

"Watch it you little shit!" He exclaimed as he gave the kid a shove who continued to mutter apologies as he went on his way, clutching something to his chest like it was gold. Davus turned back to his journey, cursing under his breath about when he was a child. He stopped for a moment "Something doesn't feel right" he muttered in a undertone, he patted about his person, checking his dagger, his pipe and weed, and even his broken compass before he was blessed with a sudden sense of realisation. "Oh he better not have had his fingers in my money pouch" he thought. He was wrong; he hadn't had his fingers in his money pouch. He had taken the entire bloody thing. "Hey you! Stop!" He called out down the street to lad.

The boy, aware he had been rumbled, broke into a run the leather pouch visible in his hands. The sound of his money jingling taunted him as Davus too broke into a run, following the urchin down the street. His feet slapped against the stone path, echoing through the clear street as he turned a corner after him. He spotted the guard who shooed him on earlier "Guard! GUARD!" He shouted, the guard turned around glaring at him "Stop that boy!" He ordered. Obediently the guard dived at the lad as he passed but he was too small and too quick for the fat, lumbering guard who missed and crashed into several crates. Davus sped past the guard as he struggled to get back to his feet, his now tomato coated heavy chainmail weighing him down. "He can barely run without passing out, he is useless here" He thought as he turned another corner.

He placed his index finger and thumb in his mouth and let out a loud, sharp whistle that echoed throughout the empty street as he ran after him. The boy may have been running from his victims his entire life but he was still a child and a small one at that while Davus was part of tallest humans you could find in Mizahar so his long legs were covering lengths faster than the boy and he was closing the gap between them. The boy knew this to and unlike Davus he had spent his entire life in this city while Davus had spent only a few weeks in it, and knowing that he took a sudden right turn down an alleyway.

Davus ran through the labyrinth of an alleyway, following the sound of feet splashing in puddles. He could feel his legs starting to ache as he reached the end of the alleyway, his raised a hand to cover his eyes as he stepped out into the light but that was the least of his problems. The crowed Zhongjie Warren lay out in front of him.

Davus stormed through the crowd as he searched for the boy "Where is that bloody runt?!" He muttered in an undertone through gritted teeth as he barged people aside "Get out of my bloody way!" He shouted. He wasn't just angry, he was seething. That boy had just jeopardised his entire future, he always carried half his money in that pouch and he knew all too well that he could not afford to lose that much. If he did he would be stuck in the hell hole of a city for another season.

He spotted a familiar face; it was the Eypharian merchant who had sold him his smoking pipe and weed he was sure of it, it is hard to forget a man graced with six arms and rolls of fat that hang over his trousers for all the world to see. He walked about to man as he stroked his greasy, bushy, dark brown beard "You want buy more weed?" He said in broken Common tongue.
"No, have you seen a small boy run past?" He asked impatiently
"I pay no attention, but maybe money helps my memory" He said nonchalantly, stroking his beard all the while.
Davus was having none of it as he punched the man in his fat gut causing him to double over as far as his belly would allow him "Listen you fat bastard, I don't know if you have as many cocks as you do arms, but if you don't start talking I am going to start cutting them off, so let's hope for your sake you have spares" He threatened in mixture of Common and Fratava.
"Okay, okay. I saw a dirty little runt run passed not a minute ago, he kept on looking behind him. He was heading in the direction of the butchers. That's all I know, now please leave before you scare off anymore customers" He said in a much more fluent Fratava.

Davus stormed off leaving the glutinous merchant to catch his breath back. He was unsure what he was going to do with the lad once he found him, a good slapping at the very least and at the most, that was a thought he wondered as he rubbed his missing eye with a hint of nostalgia. As he left the crowd a seagull swooped down onto his shoulder "Oh good, you heard my whistle than" He patted Shoal's head as he turned a corner.

The lad leant against the wall outside the butchers shop, catching his breath as he examined the prize of his illicit endeavours. The look on his face showed that he couldn't believe how much was in the pouch, even if it was a mere pittance to some men the street rat had never seen so much gold in his dirty hands. "Hey! Drop that you runt" He didn't even stop to look at the origin of the voice as he set of running once more, his hands clasped even tighter around the pouch.

Davus let out a short sigh "I don't know how much more running I can take" He said exasperated.

Davus threw his tavan up into the air "The boy! Follow that bleedin' boy!" He ordered as the bird screeched back at him before flapping its wings and flying higher in the air. He pushed himself on as his exhausted legs carried him along the bridge that spun the Bluevein River, though he took little strength from his waters or its beauty as he struggled to keep sight of the boy who seemed to have a knack for disappearing into crowds. His chest burned as his breath deepened as he struggled to stay balanced. The boy on the other hand seemed to have no problem in keeping up his sprint, but even then he had started to resort to obstruction as he knocked over a pile of barrels with the hope that he would trip over them.

"By the gods I am going to strangle that boy when I get my hands on him" He moaned as he jumped over the barrels. The boy looked back, miffed that his would be victim was still putting up such a fight "Let's see how you like this you old man" The boy said with a grin, taking another sharp right through the stables. Davus followed him, turning into the stables only to catch sight of the boy leaping off a barrel, over the wall "Oh this isn't goin' to end well" He sighed to himself, he lined himself up before charging at the barrel. He had timed it poorly to say the least, as he pushed off the barrel with his foot it had toppled over beneath him and without the added height he had failed to clear the wall completely, managing to get his torso over as he grabbed hold, pulling himself over with all the grace of a hippo.

As he clambered back to his feet he looked at his surroundings, these streets were deserted and the boy was nowhere to be seen "Where are you?" He said softly, he doubted the boy had run off. No, that technique had not been working for him. A sudden caw drew his attention, his bird stood on a pile of hay outside the stables "No" He whispered doubtfully, his tavan merely cawed again. He walked up slowly to the pile of hay, now that he thought about it the pile did seem to be shaking slightly. He looked back up at his tavan before suddenly sticking his hands into the hay and grabbing the body that hid within by his shirt. He pulled him up and stared directly into his eyes "All right you little arsehole, give me on good reason why I should stab you in the eye?"

He saw the fear in the boy's eyes as he stared down into the tall man's eye, he must have looked positively insane to the lad or any passerby. He was red in the face and sweating heavily from the run, his clothes were stained from horse crap and the sure did reek of it and the smell of spirits couldn't be ignored as well "Please sir, I am just an orphan trying to eat"

Davus dropped the boy on his backside and grabbed his shirt to prevent him from running off. He slapped that boy sharply on both cheeks "I couldn't care less what sob story you make up when you are begging" The boy turned to him, his scarlet red cheeks glowed through his dirty face and water appeared to well up in his eyes though this failed to tug at his heartstrings "Cry all you want boy, you shouldn't steal from someone that can keep up with you?"
"Bu-" Another loud crack echoed the street as he backhanded him
"Enough from you boy, now where is my money?" He asked as the boy whimpered "Give it to me or you'll get more than a slap" He ordered as the boy rather begrudgingly pulled it out from behind his back and dropped it in his rough outstretched palm.

"What's goin' on here then" A voice came from behind them, it belonged to the fat Akalak guard, clearly he had been running as well and he didn't have time to wipe the squished tomato of his armour "Well? Is there some problem here?"
"No ser, I was simply running after my lad. He wanted to buy a toy but I said no and you know how these kids get when you say no to them"
He lied
"That's you son?" He asked suspiciously
"Of course" He pulled up as wrapped an arm around his shoulder "Our pod adopted him after he tragically lost his parent to plague
"I see, is this true boy?"
He asked, staring down at the boy who simply nodded, he was well used to lying after years on the streets "Say what happened to his cheeks?"
"Isn't it a right of parents to discipline their child?"
He asked rhetorically "Wait a minute... Aren't you the guy that knocked me to the ground?"
"I don't think so"
He said quickly "Well if everything is fine I'll just be moving on then"
"Good day ser"
Davus replied respectfully as he waited for the guard to disappear around the corner
"Thank you for not handin' me over ser" The boy said looking up at him
"Whatever, now piss off will you. I don't want to have to see your face again unless I am smacking it around Riverfall" He barked at the boy watching him wander off back into the city. Davus slumped down into the pile of hay, counting his money carefully "Yep all of it is there" He said to his tavan "Now let's get back to the inn without getting robbed this time, there is nothing like an afternoon run to work up a thirst"
