Physical Description

The Svefra stood at 6'3" and look around 170 lb. His face was grim and stern, yet handsome and in his younger days always adorned with a roguish smirk. His skin was of a tanned complexion, with deep set wrinkles and small scars making him appear like he had witnessed more winters than he had. His right eye was a deep, rich blue like the lowest ocean abyss, while the left eye was obscured with a stained cloth bandage that he had a tendency to rub when nervous. His hair was a light brown; it was long, straggly and always appeared to be coated in a fine layer of sea salt and while most of his jaw was stubble a small beard covering his upper lip and chin was immaculately groomed with two small braids forking off from the chin. A tattoo of a leatherback turtle bursting out of the ocean sat on his left wrist with a newer tattoo of a gull flying above it, and his Oceanus mark constantly moving round his body. While his outfits varied throughout the seasons a rusted compass always hung from his neck.

Character Concept

Davus Leatherback was born into the Leatherback pod in the Season of Autumn, Day 37, AV 480.. He was born unmarked by Laviku and never truly felt comfortable in the sea, he preferred to stay aboard the ship while the other children would play in the sea with their Tavan. He learned from his uncle rigging, ship maintenance and even some celestial navigation while aboard the ship. The Leatherback pod was a small pod that filled one Palivar, they followed their turtle podkin along the warm sea currents in the Southern Suvan Sea. His pod was made up of his grandmother and Lia Cerci Leatherback, his mother Sable, his two younger siblings (Duncan and Lily), his uncle Novak and his wife Lucia. Also they had adopted a Svefra called Meghan from the Northern Suvan Sea who left her own pod to explore the rest of the sea.

Davus's father, Loghan, left in the year AV 495 but on good terms. The Leatherbacks had been experiencing a time of plenty so when Loghan's original pod suffered a debilitating illness, leaving the working men and women bed-ridden Lia Cerci approved and blessed his decision to assist them through a turbulent time till they recovered then he would return back to his pod. Davus also had two older brothers and an older sister, but they had left by the summer of AV 497, two for love and one for the materialistic lifestyle being a trader promised.

By the winter of AV 497 Davus had turned 17 and was now part of the running of the ship but was still somewhat of a pariah; he was still unmarked by Laviku and had failed to find a Takun, amongst their podkin or any other species. Nonetheless he was a valuable member of the crew, with his uncle aging and his father gone the maintenance of the ship was down to him. However, during the winter of AV 497 a storm struck. Storms were uncommon in the Suvan Sea region especially around winter, but it struck during the night calling all able hands to fight the storm while the children and the pregnant Lucia. They were battered from one side to the other but they look like they were going to make it out of the storm before Novak spotted a rocky outcrop and attempted to turn but the rudder jammed and the ship smashed into it.

He woke three days later, floating in sea with a juvenile seagull pecking his face with the mark of Oceanus swirling across the left side of his neck and shoulder, after collapsing on the beach with his new friend following him he decided that he had to cut all ties with the Svefra, he couldn't forget his pod and he couldn't move on with a new one. For the next few years he could shake off the loss of his pod but like cliffs that border the sea, his will would eventually be eroded.

Religion

Unlike most Svefra, Davus was born without the gnosis mark of Laviku and by the time he had reached adulthood he had no Tavan. This led him to be outcast slightly between pods of Svefra, though amongst his own pod they bared no ill will towards him. His relationship with the sea is complicated at best, to him it is a constant reminder of what he has a lost and yet like all Svefra he feels drawn to it so he hugs the coastline of the Suvan Sea. He even resents Laviku's intervention to save his life, when his mood was at its lowest he wished that he had died with the rest of his pod yet he has never summoned up the courage to openly slander Laviku. He rarely concerned himself with the other gods,

Personality - Firm yet fair this no nonsense Lia put her family first, Svefra second and everyone else third. She guided her pod for 19 years throughout the southern seas and witnessed her fair share of fights amongst family, friends and bloodthirsty pirates.

Name - Sable Leatherback
Relation - Mother
Birth - Summer, Day 72, AV 455
Status - Deceased, Body recovered by local fisherman and buried by her lover Loghan Drift-tide, aged 37
Personality - Kind, friendly and always in the mood for a laugh. A mother through and through, she would settle any dispute like a mother. A talented singer and musician she was often found with a lute in hand or composing a song when she wasn't fishing.
Tavan - A Leatherback Turtle called Beaky (Died aged 22)

Birth - Spring, Day 45, AV 452
Status - Alive, after the death of his family he was re-adopted into the Drift-Tide pod,
Personality - The life of any party. He knew how to enjoy life and he knew when to stop. A joke was never far away where Loghan was concerned, whether he was the centre of it or the one making it. Not a natural father but a good man nonetheless. After the death of most of his family he quietened down and tried to reconnect with his surviving children.

Status - Deceased, their bodies were discovered after they were washed up on the shores of Black Rock, aged 12
Personality - Mischievous little buggers the twins were. Whether it was covering a harpoon in bird poo or a trader missing a golden trinket, you could bet your bottom Miza that the twins were behind it. Always giggling they seemed like they knew something you didn't
Tavan - Duncan had a Puffin called Wind (Fate unknown), Lily had an otter called Akajia (Died aged 5)

Name - Alistair Seawind, Originally Alistair Leatherback
Relation - Brother
Birth - Autumn, Day 83, AV 574
Status - Deceased, after leaving the Leatherback pod to peruse a woman he settled down with her and joined her pod to start a family, Alistair was unfortunately killed during the Djed Storm of AV 512 when his ship and another collided. Aged 38.
Personality - Alistair was the one who took after Sable the most, he had a strong loyalty to his family and the bonds that came with it. Always a romantic, when he first saw his future lover Naomi he asked permission to leave the pod to pursue her across the Suvan Sea.
Tavan - A Leatherback Turtle called Hook (Fate Unknown)

Birth - Winter, Day 87, AV 576
Status - Alive, Like Alistair she pursued love yet found none. After killing her lover to be she became a pirate on the Suvan Sea, exacting the will of Laviku to those would not know his blessing.
Personality - Hands always fisted and a scowl that could curdle milk, Coral was always looking for a fight. Never backing down she gave her sibling more bruises than all of them put together. Always a fanatical supporter of Laviku it was no surprise when she took blood in his name.
Tavan - Great White Shark called Eclipse (Alive)

Name - Nicholas Leatherback
Relation - Brother
Birth - Summer, Day 33, AV 578
Status - Alive, He is now a land dweller after leaving the pod to pursue money and materialistic goods. He was last seen in Ahnatep.
Personality - Like Davus he wasn't born marked by Laviku, unlike Davus he had no interest in becoming an asset to the pod. Whenever there was news of foreign lands he would be listening, whenever a trade occurred Nicholas would be the one haggling it.

Name - Meghan Leatherback

Birth - Summer, Day 23, AV 481
Status - Presumed dead, body was never recovered.
Personality - Quiet yet curious. Always fascinated by foreign trinkets and foods, she was never stop asking question when the Leatherbacks dealt with traders. Never far from a book, she even attempted to teach Davus to read and write.

Tavan

Shoal, his Tavan, is a Herring Gull. Born around AV 495 Shoal has the features of a common herring gull, a pure white face and chest with a gray back with black wingtips. He is around 65cm long with a wingspan of 1.5 metres and a weight of around 0.9 kilograms. He has a 6cm yellow bill that can deliver quite a nasty bite.
Shoal met Davus when he was floating of the coast of Black Rock in AV 497, he landed on him expecting to find food but after he pecked at his face he woke Davus up. He sat on his back as he swam to shore and decided to follow him, calling out for food all the way.
Davus decided to take him as his Tavan naming his Shoal, and often referring to him as his "First Mate". He noticed that Shoal always insisted on sitting on the tip of the bow when at sea, even during a open storm. While on land he will normally circle around Davus if the land is open, while is thick forest or cramped cities he preferred to stand of his shoulder or even on occasion his head. His is mistrustful of strangers especially Charoda, who he will screech at and even bite if they come to close.
