Antinous Training Grounds
10th Bell
Miriam Antinous. Daughter of the head Weaponmaster, and weaponmaster herself. Skilled combatant, and easily one of the youngest to be pulled from the normal ranks of the knighthood to oversee the training of their warriors both present and future.
He had felt lucky enough that she found it fit to give him lessons earlier in the season, but when she called him in for a check of his progress, it had caught him off guard. The note was simple.
Orion,
Come to the grounds late morning.
I want to see if my training fell on
deaf ears.
M. Antinous
Worst of all, Dinah appeared to be the loop, having taken a personal day to go and relax and recover from the rigors of knighthood. 'That sounds like a great idea,' she had said to Orion, a big grin on her lips. He was to be under the complete control of Miriam until she found it fit to release him. That could be chimes, or that could be a dozen bells. Running wasn't an option, either. Miriam's word was the authority withing the training grounds, and he would have to return at some point.
So of course Orion showed up, full armor and an array of weapons at the ready. Shield, longsword, broadsword, and bow. He could never be sure what they wanted to train, even with Dinah. It was even harder to guess with an enigma like the young weaponmaster.
"Glad you could show, Michaels," she said, walking up to the blue eyed squire. Her dirty blond hair was tied back in a pony tail. A simple leather chest piece protected her torso and upper body, but otherwise she wore plain, dirty pants, and a long sleeved tunic. Orion was no legitimate danger to her, and she valued freedom of movement considering her love for the dagger.
"Weaponmaster Antionus," he said in return, bowing his head in greeting. The girl was a few years his junior but commanded more respect that he'd garnered throughout his life. To rise to such a post was nothing to scoff at, even if Orion feared the training that awaited him.
The young woman motioned for Orion to follow him, leading the squire into the sparing area of the training grounds. Dozens of patron and squire combinations were busy at work throughout the area, honing their bodies and minds to be the great combatants that the knights were asked to be. Miriam was going to be doing the same for Orion, at least on this day. Her specialty was in the younger squires, but she could humiliate an older man as well as she could an overzealous youth, so that didn’t really matter. She wasn’t there to embarrass Orion, though. He’d progressed quite well over the last three quarters a year. She just wanted to help him cross that final threshold as far as his martial ability.
The sparring ring she’d claimed had several training weapons ready for them to use, but of even more interest to Orion were the live steel ones he saw. ”Yes, we’re going to be doing a mix of training and live sparring, Orion. Longsword, broadsword, shield, and I’m going to get you a little bit of spear and dagger going on as well. Call me biased.” Miriam grinned at the squire as she went to retrieve her spear, the real one. ”We’re going to start with your shield and longsword. The real ones you brought. Don’t worry about injuring me. I want you to go full out. Take a chime or two to get yourself ready and then we’ll get started.”
