The Diamond of Kalea is located on Kalea's extreme west coast and called as such because its completely made of a crystalline substance called Skyglass. Home of the Alvina of the Stars, cultural mecca of knowledge seekers, and rife with Ethaefal, this remote city shimmers with its own unique light.

1st Day of Winter, 513

The time of coldness had begun. Alzahah knew it without having to see it by himself. He just... understood it somehow.

It was the first day of winter which was also one of Alzahah's favourite times. He often lost himself playing in the snow during winter. When he had been a kid, he used to play outside the whole day. And when the darkness started falling above the city, he went back home to the safeness his mother and father gave him. They also gave him a warm drink.

But now he didn't have a home where he could escape as it goes dark. He didn't have parents who could give him a warm drink. But it was winter already. He had to spend the long, dark season alone. Which made him sad and depressed.

It is the first day of winter, Alzahah! Don't be so sad... he thought as he stepped out of the house he had spent the night in. The family had been really terrified because of him, though he had just wanted to have a shelter for the night.

The morning was beautiful. He couldn't have imagined anything prettier than the thin snow which covered the ground. People walked around, doing their own stuff. They didn't see the beauty of winter. But some children felt the joy of the winter, they cheered. They were happy. And it made Alzahah smile. After all, it was a sign, that the world isn't a depressing place.

The boy knew there will be a meeting or something to welcome the birth of winter. But he didn't want to go there. He wanted to be in the city, do his own stuff. He hadn't found a job yet, but he didn't even know if Ghosts can have a job. He had to find it out today.

He also wanted to go to the library. He wanted to learn more about Spiritists. After all, he had to get their help in order to get resurrected. He hadn't lost hope, though many people had said it's a stupid idea. But all of the people, who had said that, were alive. And they could've known anything about the need to survive in the world of life.

And so he started slowly walking towards the library to find information he had to get. He decided he has time until he has to get a job, so he didn't hurry with that. And he bet he would meet no one in the Cosmos Centre, but he had a chance to get a friend from the library or on the way there. He just didn't want to spend the winter alone. He wanted to have a person he could talk to.

Alone at the Cold Winter Day [Engghaen]

Rather happily, Engghaen walked through Lhavit. Her steps became small, cute skips and her arms waved alongside her. At least, when there was no one else on the streets. This snow was making her happy. It made her think of being a kid. She had loved the snow since she was little. It made her feel even more cozy and warm when she was inside, or even when she was outside, covered in a big (borrowed) cloak. The cold outside would warm her up inside. How this worked, she did not understand by far. It didn't matter anyway.

Where exactly did I need to go again? Then she remembered. The Library. She was looking for something about herbs. Since that incident with Brandon she did not want to risk almost-poisoning him again. Before, she didn't have a lot of time to do that and she didn't want Brandon to know either. It was a surprise and it needed to stay that way. Not that she would learn much from peeking in old, dusty books, but alas. It would be something and certainly better than what she knew now.

A bit confused, the cat stopped. Where did her tracks go? She had been thinking too much and this caused her to go the wrong way. Quickly she walked back to the path she thought of as right and went her way.

She felt the snow crispling under her dark brown boots. It was always a bit of a shame to disturb the spotless white cloath of snow with her darker footsteps, Engghaen thought. Therefore, she tried to step in other people's footsteps so she would not do this. There were big, and small, and boots, and one with heels, and some kid's steps, but there were probably not more than four or five different paths leading to the Library.

Further up front, she saw somebody moving in the same direction as she was. A ghost, the cat knew. Tick, tock, tick... her boots did on the thin layer of snow, when she almost skipped towards the figure to catch up with him. "Hello... I see you're going to the Library as well, if I may guess? What a wonderful morning, isn't it?" Why exactly was she talking to a random stranger like this? Maybe it was the happiness building up inside her she felt she needed to share with others.

Everyone knows pain and misery,
But it's how we survive that makes us who we are.
