Taloba, home to the Myrians, is the thriving core of Falyndar. Inhabited by a fierce and savage tribe where blood sacrifices are normal and a way of life, they are untamed and proud of it. Warlike, and with their numbers growing, the Myrians are set on reclaiming what is rightfully theirs. [Lore]

[Training] Today... Part 1[Solo]

Postby Sheika on August 16th, 2010, 2:37 pm

Time Stamp: Day 20 of Summer, AV 510
Location: Sheika's private hut, Taloba
Purpose: Training for various skills.

Morning, the spawn of evil itself amongst many races across Mizahar. For humans, it was a sign that the time was nigh that they go to their mundane jobs, spend another day in a tavern, and go to bed hours later. To the desert dwellers, it was a brief paradise from the chilled night before, then it become the scorching sea that does not forgive, does not offer mercy. For Sheika, it was more. Eyesight was enhanced at day, hunting capabilities, dramatically improved, the Myrians did most of their chores and duties during the daylight hours of day. Many hunted, many crafted, and few bothered Sheika. Sure, several times a day there would be a Myrian woman, usually a different one each time, that would unceremoniously poke her head into Sheika's little hut, which he did everything in, including his spiritism, malediction, and daily body workouts. Each time though, a different woman, the same scowl. Did they think him worthless? Probably not, he was still alive so they must have some use for him, or at least saw worth.

At the crack of dawn the man was already awake, peering around the gradually fading darkness of his tiny hut, his mother's skull (turned into a crude helmet by her son years ago) was hanging loosely on a protruding stake that was used as a post. He watched it for a moment, as if expecting to see his mother's eyes manifest and speak to him, sometimes he wished she would. She had so much to offer him, but died before she could teach him. A shame. Today he had a vague plan, he needed to stay strong, fit, alert, and perhaps his methods were unnatural to the others, but they worked for him.

The Myrian Witch Doctor dropped to the ground, catching himself in the standard 'push-up' position. Slowly he lowered himself, briefly skimming his tan chest against the grass, before pushing himself, slowly, up again. Each time he moved in this manner, Sheika felt a quivering in his arms, weakness? Probably, he had not particularly worked on raw muscle building it a while, it was not something particularly looked well upon. Alacrity, skill with a knife, all that was more towards the appetite of the Myrian style. Sheika, however, found a relaxation in burning muscles, aching bones, a pleasure in that moment of weakness that only foretold the events of growth, increased strength, muscle building. Sheika grunted lightly as he lowered himself again, painfully slowly, slower than last time, his arms steady at first, but with ever interval of a few seconds his arms entered a new spectrum of burning sensation. A smiled crept onto his face as his arms, shoulders, elbows, all began to quiver in defiance. 'Release us!' they cried. But Sheika would not. They may hate him now, they may hate him the next day, but soon they would thank him, he would thank him.

His bare chest lightly grazed the blades of grass as he lifted himself again. His push-ups were not the common humanized style. He did them slow, each one taking roughly thirty seconds or until he thought he might collapse, then proceed to push himself into a more easily maintained position. Full up! Sheika grunted, he had nearly collapsed that time, his arms, already aching in pain, burning in their reluctance to go on. "One more." Thrice the man grunted as he began to gradually lower himself. His body, flat as a board, as should be, was now joining in the shivering unorthodox cadence, his stomach was feeling the burn simply because of its part in maintaining the body's shape. A third time he felt the brushing of grass on his chest, but he was stuck, his arms so weak that they didn't just graze the grass, they gave up and dropped him completely on it. He paused a moment, breathing heavily as he absorbed the coolness the night left on the grass on his pectorals, and then, not quite as slow as previous, but still intentionally slow, he pushed himself up, slowly, and all the way.

As soon as he finished that, he pulled up his knees, resting on them as he sat. He lifted his gaze to see a fairly attractive, but equally fierce, woman's head inside his tent like hut, her glare almost had a sparkle of amusement, then she vanished. Surely she was mocking him in her own mind right there. Sheika shrugged. At least he wasn't deemed worthless.

Inhale, exhale. Breathing, it was natural for all living, land dwelling, creatures, excluding things like Nuits and Ghost (if they count) of course. Sheika's body was begging for heavy breathing, trying desperately to breathe fast, but that wasn't correct, it was deep, slow, that's what it needed to be. Sheika forced each breath to come slowly, reaching deep into his lungs, held briefly, and once again slowly exhaled. This went on for several minutes, the controlled breathing, beads of sweat that had formed from his exercise earlier, had already begun to dry up, caking his skin in a salty thin layer.

Next, Sheika had an exercise more for his mobility, flexibility. First, stretching. As any good acrobat would tell you, stretching makes all the difference between a successful position, and a painful experience. Legs, Sheika sat down on his rear and extended his left leg forward, and leaning over his waist Sheika found that his foot was mere inches out of his reach. In attempt to touch them, his foot folded forward, almost a cheat, except that Sheika also found out a severe burning sensation stab him in the leg as he did so. At first he winced and pulled away, reflexes, but he realized that was actually a good thing, the sensation was powerful, meaning the desired effect was stronger like that. With this in mind, Sheika tried again, leaning over his leg as far as he could manage while his toes, doing their best to point up at the sky while the rattling muscles begged for mercy. Held, and held, Sheika refused to let go for a solid minute, then he leaned back, instantly feeling the relief, along with a slight lingering after math effect.

Next, it was the right leg.

With his right leg now extended, toes pointed upwards, Sheika, quite foolishly, leaned forward instantly, reaching desperately for his toes, but also pushing himself too far, too soon. A wicked painful, not just the burning sensation, was felt as he could have sworn he heard a POP! sound somewhere in his thigh. Regardless, he decided that the slow and enduring approach was more suitable for such an exercise. He leaned over again, reaching in futile towards his outstretched toes, a minute of the stretching, and he leaned back again, releasing his legs from their fiery torment.

Sheika got to his feet and began jumping up and down, lifted his knees up to his chest with each leap, and bouncing off the ground with each impact, loosening up perhaps? Experimenting was more like it. Sheika was looking for methods to train his body, things he could do without being watched like a hawk in the public of Taloba. He was already eccentric anyhow. After doing this for a few seconds, and deciding it was more of a waste of time and energy than anything. What was next? Sheika had an idea.

Returning to his hands a knees, surely a pathetic sight if someone was to walk in on him now, the Myrian Witch Doctor put his forehead to the ground, pushing up with his arms, and held his knees tucked closely to his shoulders, resting them lightly on his elbows. It looked almost like Sheika was frozen in a mid front tumble, his arms began to quiver already though, still somewhat weakened by the body exercise earlier, and his figure tipped, rolling to the side, where Sheika remained for a brief moment, long enough to see the second Myrian woman of the day peering down at him, grinning. Oh how silly he must have looked. She left promptly, probably assuming him performing some sort of ritual, which weren't uncommon for him really. He shrugged his shoulders as he returned to his hands and knees, facing his forehead to the ground, and lifting himself to his mid-tumble position once more.

He held it for nearly a minute when he rolled through, and ended in a sitting position. Now breathing again. Slow, deep, in, hold, slow, out, hold. The Myrian man focused on his lungs, as if he could actually see them, and forced himself to breathe slowly, calmly. Hastened recovery, he believed.

[Training] Today... Part 1[Solo]

Postby Sheika on August 17th, 2010, 5:10 am

Next on Sheika's invisible list was running, a task that Sheika didn't particularly enjoy as it was usually best with a purpose. Perhaps he could make it into a purpose. Practice was his purpose, his physical perfection was his purpose, not that he really desired something like that. Sheika burst from the folds of his hut in a full blown sprint, dead leaves and morning dew were both thrown wildly out from under his bare and hardened feet as he sped through Taloba wildly. Everywhere he went he temporarily watched by those doing constructive things, and once their confusion faded, most returned to their work.

However, not to any big surprise, it did not take long for Sheika to feel utterly winded, weak, almost like he was about to pass out even. Running, something a Myrian needed simply because being the best warrior did not mean you were guaranteed victory in every battle. There were Dhani, there were dire beasts. Sheika kept up his mad dash for a few more seconds before he allowed his momentum alone carry him as a gradually declining pace, and eventually he stopped. And what was that? Sheika looked around, following the sounds of the drums, the Myrian music, somewhere about there was music being played, something that Sheika all of a sudden had an urge to get down and get freaky with himself over... or perhaps just dance. Sheika, taking a few minutes more to listen, pin pointed the direction and picked up his feet to once again run, or more like slowly jog, to the site, and sure enough, a dozen Myrians were in a large circle, half playing drums, half singing recently created lyrics or chanting praises to Myri, and others were dancing.

Sheika wanted to dance.

Without so much as a hesitation, the Witch Doctor moved towards the inner circle that had been formed by the percussion instruments, the drums of various sizes, and he began dancing. Slowly at first. Sheika started out simple motions, hopping on one leg, following the pulsing beating rhythm of the drums as they rattled his bones and set his mind aflame. Next, a little rotation while he hopped on one leg. Head lowered, eyes closed. It mattered not if everyone watched him or not even Myri saw him now. He was alone with the beat.

Before long Sheika was bouncing on one leg and rotating clockwise, the next he would switch legs, as well as turn himself counter clockwise. The music had entranced him. Several minutes passed before Sheika slowed down and stopped, when he opened his eyes he saw another Myrian man watching him, nodding lightly, smiling. He was pretty short, even by Myrian Standards.

"Come Witch Doctor, dance."

A challenge? Not what Sheika expected, but he might as well participate. From what little he saw, these people weren't particularly amazing themselves.

To Be Continued...

GRANTING OF XP

Sheika
Acrobatics - 1 xp
Body Building - 2 xp
Breath Control - 1 xp
Conditioning - 2 xp
Dancing - 1 xp
Meditation - 1 xp
Running - 1 xp

Lore:
- Starting small when trying out something new
- Hyperextending the hip muscle

Notes:
The level of detail in the thread is very good, but also don't forget the amount of time your character used the skill affects the amout of xp you get (from me at least). It's difficult to write a plain training thread without becoming repetetive, so I would suggest incorporating usage of the skills you want to develop in some sort of story, which can be fun even if it's a solo thread. Not only do you develop your character, you also gain xp for the skills you used. Just a couple of suggestions. ;-)

Notice: I will not be available for modding in the foreseeable future until I've cleared up my backlog of Miz stuff (PC and ST-wise). Hopefully, it's a temporary thing, but we'll see. I will still grade your threads, however.
