Nilika combed through her hair and put it up in to ponytails. They flapped behind her as she flipped them behind. A little small delicate smile came to her face. Today she was going to the Theater with Edwyn. It’s only been a few days since he bonded with her. She was still a little confused about the whole bonding thing but she wasn’t worried about it. It felt nice to have so one to talk to. She pulled on her cloak over the blue cotton shirt she wore. Opening up the chest that was at the end of the bed she took out her black boots. They looked shiny and new from her polishing them the other night. Pulling them on, the young girl twirled around a little bit.

She looked herself and down. I’m ready. She walked out the door with the key in her bare hands. Locking the door, she put the key, on a string, around her neck. Can’t lose it again. One of the many things that she inherited from her grandma, losing keys. The hallway was almost deserted of any living creature. “Good morning, Nilika,” a ghost greeted before phasing through his door. Literally, no living creatures were up and about. Down the hallway she went, her steps almost along with her happy mood. It felt like that nothing to ruin her mood. She went down the many steps and greeting others that passed her.

Finally she reached the cobbled streets and looked around for a bit. She forgot to tell Edwyn where to meet her at. Oh how she wanted to slap her head in stupidity. Sooo stupid. You were so worried about how look, the voice decided to cut in. She decided to head towards Stormhold Castle. Hopefully he didn’t leave yet. Do you even know where the theatre is at? With that thought, she practically wanted to cry. Pathetic, the voice sneered and left.

Let's Have Fun [Edwyn]

Edwyn gazed blearily out from between the dirt laced covers that smothered his small canine form; a hateful chill seemed to wait with mock anticipation outside of his sanctuary of warmth knowing that its prey would have to leave eventually. Edwyn curled himself tighter under the rough blankets, the cloth catching painfully upon his fur, though he did not feel the need to get up, his mind still caught in a dreary half sleep where all he cared for was to simply lay and fall back into dreams… how long will this cold last?… he wondered; it had seemingly been years since he had felt truly warm and even now the icy blasts would not relent, in fact the only truly good thing that had occurred this season had been meeting Nilika… it was strange really… the two had scarcely known each over for a couple days, but it was as if they were old friends reunited to know nothing of each other and even so Edwyn felt such a loyalty to her that which he had never expected. The last several days had been wonderful, a slight nagging sensation starting at the back of his mind, what- I… oh…Edwyn remembered Nilikas’ words the previous day inviting him to something called a “Feat- ater” in honesty he had no idea what a “Feat- ater” was, nor why anyone would want to go to one, though he had said he would come. Unfortunately he had been supposed to meet her somewhere this morning... Edwyn leapt upwards, the cold grasp cackling gleefully as he was struck with its freezing fingers. The room, while not quite as disorganized as before, still was scattered with odd clumps of his belongings like the remnants of some ancient kingdom rebuilding itself upon ancient lands; Edwyn landed at the edge of his cot, legs almost slipping out from under him as some dry straw dropped from the riddled mattress where it met its brethren in a small pile at the beds base. Tentatively He braced his haunches and dropped down a foot or two from the low bed where he padded quickly across the biting dry floor its bare surface unadorned with luxuries like carpets or furs the room cloaked in a bleak light.
Unexpectedly a solid knock of Nilika’s hand came from the brittle door at the far side of the room, even such a small movement causing its worn frame to rattle and shake; Edwyn’s tail fell quickly and his stomach sunk… he must’ve been rather late for her to go all the way here to find him. For a second he contemplated pretending to have already gone… though no he shoved the deceitful thought aside, he couldn’t do such a thing to her, even so his bark of response was halfhearted and rather guilty.

Nilika open the door and peered into the room rather nonchalantly. Edwyn sat on the floor with his tail flat on the floor. That’s odd, most of the time his tail is wagging when she sees him. She had a sense that Edwyn felt guilty? That emotion of its self was what worried her. Why would he be guilty for something? Her brain tried to run through her memories of the last couple of days. There wasn’t anything that she noticed that make him feel guilty unless, he wanted to pretend not to be there. That thought left as soon as it came, maybe something else.

“You do know that you’re not late, right,” she mumbled out looking at the person in question. She sheepishly looked at her feet, “I kind of forgot tell you where to meet up at. So I decided to meet you here instead.” She stuttered out a lot of gobble, she wasn’t one make mistakes and to know that she made that one tiny error was distressing.

Looking around the room, she noticed that it was messy and went about picking thongs. “Must I stay with you just to make sure this place stays clean?” She picked up random things as she moved about the room in a hurried fashion. She wasn’t really bothered about the mess but she needed something that could her thoughts together.

Every time she was around Edwyn her thoughts would scramble and become confusing for Nilika. He made her feel secure but foolishly happy. Those two things were considered dangerous to her. Those feeling can get you hurt. Too much trust can kill someone or lead them unknowingly to their doom. She looked back up the puppy and smiled with a wide grin then blushed. This state of mind has startled her from the moment they appeared. She wasn’t use to expressing emotions especially with hugging.

Let's Have Fun [Edwyn]

Edwyn took a small gulp as the door opened slowly its hinges creaking, light from the corridor silhouetting Nilika as she brought herself into view. Sitting quickly he tried and failed to hide the growing guilt welling up in side of him though Nilika seemed concerned rather than angry, her pose that of uncertainty when she caught sight of him through the gloom.
“You do know that you’re not late, right,” she finally guessed leaving Edwyn puzzled, I’m not? One of the many problems of living so deep within the citadel was that one quickly lost track of time, here there was no sun to give indication of what bell it could possibly be. “I kind of forgot tell you where to meet up at. So I decided to meet you here instead.” She continued voice holding a timid waver. Well it explained why she had come though Edwyn wanted to reassure her tell her it was alright, the best he could manage was a strange high-pitched bark. Soon her gaze shifted, alighting upon the miscellaneous piles “Must I stay with you just to make sure this place stays clean?” as she stepped lightly across the room allowing the door to rock to a steady close. Edwyn didn’t stop her, he still found no reason for cleaning though Nilika seemed to desire everything tidy and neat, he certainly wasn’t going to stop her, in fact for whatever odd reason he was beginning to dislike the possibility of being impaled by a bent dinner utensil every time he walked around his home… ah well... standing Edwyn walked with small bouncing steps to where his clothes lay in the far corner, with a brilliant flash he transformed, the rooms heat plummeted as his fur disappeared, unclothed skin soon erupting in small bumps. With haste he pulled on his clothes grateful for the slight protection, his flute exposed from his roughly stitched pocket.
“So uhm…” he said quietly, pivoting his body “we going to this uh- feat-ater?” he said trying to mimic the word she had used.

Nilika put the stuff in the corner and looked back in time to see a flash of light. Closing her eyes swiftly, she blushed an immense red. The blush spread from the tips of her ears to the bottom of neck. Her scales shiny a bright too, “you could have warned a girl,” she growled out. On the inside she had a mini heart attack from what she almost seen. She blew out a sigh and waited for telltale signs of Edwyn finishing putting on his clothes.

She opened her eyes and looked at Edwyn deadly. He looked to be paler as soon she looked at him. Maybe I should work on my natural face. She knew her face can be what some say dead or impassive, but tries every so often to put a smile on her face. “We going to this uh- feat-ater?” She noticed the way he said as if he wasn’t sure if he was saying right.

“It’s theatre not feat-ater,” she said softly and stressing the theatre part. The Konti never broke eye contact. She really needed to learn how to look nonthreatening. Nilika looked him up and down and determining if she should tell him. "To be honest I don’t know if we can go or not. I kind of don’t know where it is,” she looked dumbly at her feet. Pathetic, the voice sneered in her head. She chose to ignore it for the time being.

Edwyn could feel blood rush to his face, the freckles that were usually easily apparent lay now hidden by his flushed skin at Nilika’s comment. The room suddenly seemed much colder and Edwyn wrapped his arms together in front of his torso as if trying to hold warmth inside his chest, the torch light from the hallway flickering through the gaps in the doors mangled wood causing the two’s shadows to seem fractured and torn. Nilika stared at him unblinkingly eyes reflecting the iridescent glow while Edwyn’s own voice having seemingly fled far to the corners of his mind to bring about a silence broken only by the distant dripping of water streaming from icy crevices seeping into the impenetrable stone and occasional knocking echoes carried through the empty air shafts. It was amazing really, that sounds could travel so far yet be so small and distant, the single drop of a pebble could potentially be heard on the other side of the city through the vents; just the thought made Edwyn want to lean into the vent and bark as loud as he could just to see what would happen… in fact he wondered if Nilika would mind him trying it now-
he was pulled back to reality by her next words, the tone not angry as previously… rather though they were strangely downcast.
"To be honest I don’t know if we can go or not. I kind of don’t know where it is,” voice breaking off into a soft breath. Edwyn bit his lip, what should he say? She seemed ashamed… then again how did he know he wasn’t wrong and she was thinking something completely different, we’ve only known each over for what? A couple days? She’s practically a stranger. Even so she didn’t feel like one, the bond was deeper than that in ways perhaps no one person could possibly explain. Edwyn responded in his own stammered way trying to raise her spirits even if only slightly
“Well perhaps this isn’t all a bad thing? I mean what’s so good about this feata- theata- theater thing anyway?... I- I mean there’s a whole city out there.”

Nilika looked up at Edwyn with steel eyes. He was right; they didn’t need to go to some play to have fun. There some places in Syliras that she hasn’t yet. They could have fun by their selves. She smirked and looked at him with every distant look present on her face. There was a glimmer of a secretive spark in them. Yes they could have fun, she started to wring her hands in a deceive way. That smirk turned into a naughty cat grin.

“I guess you’re right,” she smiled forcibly. Pulling against the hem of his shirt, her webbed hands pulled him towards to wooden door. “Oh yea,” she looked around the room looked for his cloak. She threw it around him and led him out the door. Her feet carried them though the twists and turns of the corridors. She walked briskly as she went. The cool air brushed her pale cheeks as they rushed past. People looked at them, as the pair rushed past them. Nilika swirled around the groups of people as she led them outside.

“I guess you’re right,” Nilika grumbled her mouth curving with the hint of a smile, one hand clutching the corner of his shirts fabric as she walked to the door pulling him behind. A hand almost reaching for the wooden frame that was the door she instead turned seeming to think… “Oh yea,” she said after a few moments of thought, stepping less than a chairs length her arm fell to the floor retrieving his old dirt stricken cloak. Moths and nature had done their work well on the articles worn cloth, holes lay splattered about its sides and many of the numerous stitchings that Edwyn had attempted were falling quickly into disrepair torn asunder already; though even so Edwyn wrapped it about his shoulders graciously his arms giving a sigh as their furless skin was covered. Not a second had passed from adorning the cloak then had Nilika griped his wrist and thrust open the door bursting like a river free at long last from its wooden dam; air billowed through his hair, his ears too small to move to the winds free flowing tune though even so he could feel the touch upon their curved sides. This small portion of Syliras had a beauty that was hard to see, like the small birds nesting in the notch of an arch giving off soft echoing chirps, or perhaps the maze like patterns etched into a pillar that rose defiantly from grime layered stone. Yes this place had beauty, perhaps there was no sunrise, no shining light nor any sparkling green of flora (despite the odd beaten moss) though Edwyn had to admit that in a strange way these halls felt like home… no not like home… they were home. They were the only home he had ever known, the world he had grown in via his short snap of existence. He wanted to break free, to run to jump, to soar, to see the world… though for now he was fine with this; him and Nilika dashing through the fortress of Syliras, he felt free, or more so, he felt alive...

She came to a steady stop as she looked up at the cloudy sky. A few rays of sun shined through them. The little rays of sun trying to break through the cloudy, cold sky, reminded her of flowers trying to break beyond the snow, which lay on them, for the upcoming spring. A lazy little smile played along her lips. Squeezing her hands into fists, she felt something in one of them. When did she pick up something? She opened her hand and saw that it was a wrist? Her eyes followed up from the arm to a face. Oh yea…Edwyn was with me.

She forgot all about him as she rushed outside the castle. The wind had whipped around her and she felt so happy and care free about it. It was as if she could sprout wings and fly. That was something that she hasn’t quite felt while being on land. But when she was underwater, it was like she was weightless and at the same time caressed by the waves of the ocean. Sometimes she felt safe in the water, but that was when she but a little Konti, still ignorant of the dangers of the world. The teen let go of his hand quickly and looked down at it as if it bit her. Where were her gloves? I didn’t pick them up, she remembered. She turned around and looked to see if anyone noticed the harsh action. What surprised her, the most, was that he didn’t seem to have an ounce of sadness in him.

Nilika turned back around and looked at Edwyn with a smirk and looked him up and down. “If my assumption is correct then you lived here your whole life, which hasn’t been long since you’re … a Kelvic,” she mumbled off the last part. She started to circle him like a predator with its prey. This wasn’t far from the truth, with the way she was looking at him. Finally coming to a stop at the side of him, she put her hand on his cloaked shoulder and she looked up at him. “So do you know anywhere we can have fun or have a laugh,” she smiled softly at her…bondmate. She was starting to get used to that term and was grateful to have someone that won’t really judge her.

Let's Have Fun [Edwyn]

The two’s breath came in haggard gasps as they finally stopped in the midst of an open road; Edwyn looked upwards to the exposed sky. high overhead between the looming walls of the citadel rising up forebodingly on either side of the narrow walk clouds swirled to an angry tune in the stone blue sky their cold arms smothering the sun and their breath howled through the narrow streets causing Edwyn’s cloak to yank against his shoulders. A lock of splotched hair swirled in front of his face briefly caught in a sudden gust of wind its brown curl doing a small dance before settling back to its place by his pale ear. Nilika griped his wrist causing him to turn quickly, her mouth wrought with a wry smile “If my assumption is correct then you lived here your whole life, which hasn’t been long since you’re … a Kelvic,” her voice died off in the end like an autumn breeze… the words caught him by surprise for a moment. They were true, how long had he lived here in this city, two years? Already he had lived perhaps what? A fifth? A sixth? Of his life? Everything had been so fast. The first note on the flute, the first time he had touched a tree, the first time he had seen his reflection, the first time he had met Nilika... Edwyn dwelt on the thought a few more seconds his eyes falling to the dirt layered ground, snow piling on the edges of the road or merely stomped against the ground by thousands of traveling feat. A soft hand alighted on his shoulder Nilika looking up at him smiling lightly “So do you know anywhere we can have fun or have a laugh?” she asked and Edwyn looked back up at her, he thought for a moment before responding sheepishly
“It’s ah... well it’s probably not as interesting as whatever you had in mind originally though there is a- a ah wishing well in the Jordon district… not too far from here, I think”
